Deceptive practice of not returning customer deposits.Per Virginia law, a utility company may not hold a deposit longer than 1-year, and per Dominion's written policy, your deposit will be returned after 12 months of on-time payment. Yet, Dominion held onto my deposit for 17 months, and only acknowledged they'd start the process to give me my deposit back after I called their Customer Service 3 times. That was no small feat because it's nearly impossible to get a human on the line due to their phone software's limited prompts and auto-recorded statements that don't let you ask for a representative like most other companies' customer service lines do.I filed a complaint with Virginia's **************************** (part of the state's ******** of ****** Utility Regulation) to report what happened with me, and would recommend that anyone else having a similar experience with Dominion Energy's deceitful practices contact the Virginia SCC as well. (*******************************************************************)For the record, I know there are contingencies with customer deposits being held due to a customer's failure to make on-time payments or poor credit, but neither of those applied in my case. Dominion Virginia is a straightforward shady company; just ****** their decades-long over-billing practices that got them in trouble. We appreciate the opportunity to research and investigate further.Upon receipt of this notification, we immediately reviewed the account accordingly.Our policy regarding account deposits states that a given deposit will be eligible to be applied back to the customers account or refunded upon request, with simple interest, when the account reflects at least 12 months of on-time payments, after the final deposit installment is paid. Per these requirements the customers twelve-month time frame did not begin until 3/2023 (after full payment of deposit was received). The most recent bill was for the March through April billing cycle. The deposit in question does not become available for refund and/or application to the account until the conclusion of the billing cycle for the twelfth month. The current billing cycle that began on 4/27/24 (not yet generated) is the first that the deposit in question would be available to be released. It was actually applied to the account on 5/10/24. The customer currently has a credit balance on the account as of result (deposit + interest usage from April 2023 bill).Although the bill physically showing the applied deposit will not generate until later this month, the customer may allow said credit to remain on the account or request a refund check accordingly at this time.Our investigation has confirmed that the deposit in question was processed as mandated/intended. Dominion never wants our customers to be without power. However, payment in full is expected for each invoice presented. Review of the account shows a consistent pattern of balances carried forward. Consequently, the customer's internal credit scoring was such that the most recent balance warranted a disconnection notice. The balance was not paid by the date shown on the notice which resulted in an interruption of service. In the event our customer is unable to pay an invoice in full in the future, we offer payment plans. These can be requested on our website or by calling our helpline.Review fromBrandon F

They were "unable" to read my meter for 4 months, and now I just got hit with an $800 bill because they can't do their job. I get that it's the power I used for nearly half a year, but how am I supposed to budget for this if they bill so erratically? I got a bill in September, after starting service in June, then again in December, then now in May. They have no idea why they can't read my meter, nor offer any sort of explanation as to why, but apparently I'm just supposed to be ok with them billing me whenever they feel like it. I would love to chart my usage and try to figure out ways to be more efficient, but they don't allow that because their "smart meters" are apparently unreadable for reasons that they assure me no one knows. I hate that we can't choose power companies, these monopolies hurt the users so bad yet there's nothing we can do about it. Never have I had so many issues in getting a company to take my money in a timely manner.Dominion Energy Virginia

I had my account transferred for a move back In Feb. Dominion didn't complete the transfer and instead completely closed my account. They then sent my electric bill for the new apartment to my leasing office. The leasing office is charging me a fee to process the payment. I asked Dominion to just charge the back pay to my account and confirmed I can pay in full today. They said the only way they could do that was to turn off my power for 2 - 3 days. I'm remote employee and can't go without power. So now I'm forced to pay a fee to my leasing office that I can't afford all becuase Dominion didn't do their job correctly, and said they would turn off my power if I wanted to pay the back payment through my account.Dominion Energy Virginia

1 starI called to have power turned off due to having to move. I got power of attorney of other party. And they claimed they didnt receive it. So they kept services going and are now trying to make me pay for services for 3 months I wasnt living there. They did finally receive power of attorney and manager of customer relations contacted me and said ** still have to pay the past due. So ridiculous when I had already lost my home and everything. Dominion Power just cut off my power when I got home without one text message or email absolutely nothing not even mail at the address I asked for the mail to start going. Over the winter the bill was extremely high and they never cut it off but this low bill I miss one time because the weather had warmed up they decide to cut off. Funny how judgemental this company is. You can keep bills stacking in the winter but in spring and summer pay it or we cut it off. Two faced Dominion that is not good customer services that is disgusting. I'd like corporate to read this also and know I asked for my ********** to that address I requested wherever you supposedly say you mailed it, did not come to what I requested.
