We are VRBO hosts ion the ********************. The advertising on television about hosts that have stupid rules, share the hot tub, dont allow guests to use the bbq, allow 5 minute showers and encourage potential guests to get a place all by themselves is such an insult to those hosts that live on property. We get 5 star reviews and are so considerate and generous of our guests and I feel that these commercials should be banned. Those commercials only benefit VRBO and make them more money than they already make because they are on a percentage.

Two out of two of my hosts canceled on me within the same week. One because they had a concern they werent sure would be fixed by the time we came. Okay, no worries. It happens. The other (A brand new host) says they dont understand why it was set up and tried to cancel their listing. Each asked me to cancel thankfully prior to the refund (by days) but Im wondering if theres scammers setting up false establishments to gain money. Finally I called Vrbo direct and waited online 6-8 minutes before they hung up the line. This was a horrible first experience trying to find an alternative to *******

I booked an apartment for a 2br 2ba apartment for 5 people for a week. The day before our arrival our host informed me that one of the toilets was broken, but that he'd keep us updated on when it would be fixed. Silence for the rest of our stay, so during our stay I requested a partial refund through VRBO customer service. They told me that refunds are entirely up to the hosts and that they can't do anything but send my request to him. He didn't respond until after we left and claimed that the toilet was never broken, and that he wouldn't be giving us any refund. The apartment was also very dirty, many things were broken, and they didn't disclose that a cat lived there, which caused two of our group members to be quite sick during our stay. I tried escalating everything to VRBO again, but they said it was our fault for not bringing it up during our stay. We did! They said they had no control over refunds!Following our stay we reached out to the apartment complex itself and learned that this was an illegal short term rental and that they were in violation of their lease. We will be staying in hotels from now on.

When looking at rentals, VRBO lists a 'Total' cost that does not include Taxes. There is no reason to do this other than to trick the customer into thinking the rental will be cheaper than it is. To see the real total you have to get to the final booking step or open up the 'Price Details' which will show you the real total.

Booked with VRBO for Thanksgiving. We booked about three months in advance, and were planning a one month stay. They promise a 'money back gaurentee' but that is fake. We got a call about one month after booking from someone stating that they were the owner of the property and the management group that they were hosting through took the money and ran. They also provided us with a news article showing the management company being sued by multiple home owners. We reached out to VRBO three times and each time they stated that they would get back to us after trying to get in touch with the host. (that wasn't gonna happen- they were gone!) VRBO also stated at this point that the company was just using them to market and our money went directly to the management company. So its not protected. On the next time we reached out to VRBO they said to call on the day of check in if we cannot get in because we would be considered stranded. We did that and they told us they would call back within 48 hours... where am I supposed to sleep im 3 hours from home and its a holiday? They never called back and I am still waiting for some sort of resolution for our missing 3K.

VRBO IS A SUBSIDIARY OF THE ******************* WHO BOUGHT OUT VRB9 AND HOME AWAY. NOW USING THE VRBO NAME TO COVER UP THE MOTHER COMPANYS NAME TO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF GUESTS AND HOSTS. VRBO TAKES ADVANTAGE OF THE HOST, DOSE NOT PROTECT THE HOST FROM BAD GUESTS. VRB9 WILL RENT YOUR HOME TO ANYONE. VRBO DOSE NOT PRE QUALITY GUESTS ANY MORE. VRBO DOSE NOT SHOW GUEST REVIEWD TO THE HOST ANY MORE. THEY HAVE DONE AWAY WITH ALL PROTECTION FOR THE HOME OWNER THAT HOSTS THERE HOME. VRBO IS THE ABSOLUTE WORST PLATFORM.

I looked at property for 2 weeks. Priced $330/night. Booked it and had my credit card charged $1994.25. The next day I received a call that they made a mistake its really $426/night. Somehow it doesnt seem right when it is their error. We cancelled. Be aware if you book Magical Smoky Views.

The only thing that VRBO cares about is pocketing fees from owners and renters. They provide zero assistance if there is any problem with a renter, they dont compensate owners for mistakes they make, they never follow up on requests for support. Two recent examples:1) a renter damaged a counter in my property. The repair value was greater than what was covered by the insurance that they had taken. Per the rental agreement, renters are liable for any damage they cause. When I called VRBO to assist me with getting the renter to pay the difference, since the renter was not responsive, they told me that I am on my own 2) the house has a 10am check out time, which is stated in the listing and in the agreement. One of the renters told me that they will be checking out at 11am, as stated in their confirmation. They even sent me the confirmation they had received from VRBO which indeed stated an 11am checkout time (apparently an error made by the VRBO platform/system). This error resulted in significant logistical issues and cost, given that the cleaners that service the house are on a very tight schedule which they had to change to accommodate the late checkout. When I called VRBO about this they told me that they will investigate what happened and follow up. To this date (6 months later), I have not heard back from VRBO, despite 4 follow up calls to check in on the status of the claim

Had two terrible experiences with VRBO. In both, the host had stopped renting their home but in one instance VRBO waited until two days from our big family reunion. They are totally insensitive and inconsiderate about guests complaints. Will NEVER use them again

Had a reservation in ******, ****** for November 1-7 and booked 8 months in advance because everything books up for Dia de los muertos celebrations. Everything was confirmed and then 24 hours before check in, we did not receive check in instructions and I tried contacted the host 5 times and didn't hear back. The day of I tried again, with no reply. I reached out to VRBO support (sat on hold for an hour) for them to tell me they can't do anything because it isn't 4pm check in time yet. I explained that it says 24 hours in advance we should receive something. They still couldn't do anything. Finally 4pm check in time, didn't hear anything from host and all VRBO said was to find a different hotel and we could be reimbursed up to $124 for only 1 night. I explained that there is no hotels due to the holidays but they didn't care. My sister and I were already in ****** at the airport calling hotels, looking at ****************************************************, trying to find ANYTHING or any price range and NOTHING, not even hostel rooms or something an hour away. We were stranded with no place to go. We searched and called for 3 hours before we found a hotel with 1 room available but it was $1,300/night for a 4 star hotel. We decided instead of no place to go, we will book just one night and go from there. Fast forward to the next day. The host cancelled the reservation the next day saying that "we didn't meet the minimum required age".. BS excuse so they don't get in trouble. I then was in contact with VRBO demanding they pay more than $124 back to me due to the fact there was NO LODGING ANYWHERE. They said there was absolutely nothing they could do. Then I said, the least you can do is let me leave a review for them. They said yes for sure, then hung up. I called back and demanded to leave a review and they said you can't due to the fact you didn't stay there. I said that is BS because this host can continue to do this to other people and it isn't right. They didn't care. THIS BUSINESS *****.
