I just opened a Restaurant in Kensington, August last year I was approached by this company offering to promote my businesses through the *********************** I was busy at the time but I sat and listened for a bit I stand up few times to serve my customers, when we got to the pricing I was told an amount that I understood it was a one time only, just to find out after few mounds I was getting charge almost 600 dollars a month for a community magazine.I call to ask them about the charges and they told me it was a contract for 3 years which I promised he never told me about that, as I new owner I ask them to finish my contract and they told me they can reduce it for 12 months which I did not agree, and this has being a constant battle with them I do not have that kind of money and they did not have honest and clear communication, I feel I was taking advantage of being a new owner and with no experience on this matters I try to talk to them but not answer . I really want them to understand and please cancel that contract. Im very upset and being English my second language I feel that they took advantage of me not being clear with their services.Business Response

I signed a contract with BVM a few months ago as a new business just trying to get my name out in the area. Little did I know this was the worst decision I could have ever made. My sales rep sold me this story of how BVM was this amazing media company and could help expand my brand, but it has been several months and I have not received a single sale from the ad. I understand the company does not promise sales but no one runs an ad without the intent of it brining in sales. Upon further investigation I realized this business has had SEVERAL complaints about the very issue I am having. The problem is once you realize that the ad is not working and there is no ROI for the amount youre paying you are then stuck paying the ridiculous amount for however many months you signed for and even worse you have no option to cancel the contract. While legally they may have not done anything wrong they have immorally and unethically conned me into a false hope of expanding my name/brand. As a new small business owner I was unaware of how easily this company will try and take advantage of you. At this rate Ill need to find a second income just to pay for the cost of advertising in a magazine that brings in no return. Its like watching money being thrown away or burned every month. I know they will never let me out of the contract but Id be happy just reducing my ad spending to the lowest amount possible and finishing out my contract which I doubt they will let me do. I would honestly have no issue with the payments if I just saw one single sale a month from it. Its just a shame when this many people have an issue youd think the company would do something to help/fix the problem and not s**** over its customers. I guess thats how they make their money. Maybe someone will see this and have the slightest bit of compassion and want to help. Judging by the other reviews it seems unlikely.Business Response

I began my contract with Best Version Media in February of 2022 with ****** as my sales rep. I was promised copies of magazines to begin with, along with ****** over pushing the product telling me this will push my business to the next level. Ive been paying almost $600/month as a flooring installer trying to build my company. I havent received a single lead from the areas this magazine covers. Not a phone call, email, or message. I have contacted with issues and my calls will not be handled for weeks at a time. I have sent multiple photos to the advertising department to give me edit proofs to choose from. The editors will send back one and pretend they didnt get any other photos. I recently tore my hamstring and am a veteran dealing with the VA for healthcare. That is another story but to the point healthcare takes a while compared to the private sector. I contacted BVM scared about paying my bills on 3/23/23 because as of recent I am a one man team, and being unable to physically work stressed me out. I better took over three weeks to get back to me again. My account has been closed and therefore unable to pay my bill. ****** called my phone (mind you the first time shes contacted since I emailed about my torn hamstring) and called me a liar and screamed at me on the phone. Completely unacceptable. Im dealing with enough. I told her I refuse to be spoken to that way, and not to call back. Shes called and texted multiple times a week. At this point I feel Im being harassed by a company threatening to come for me because I made a HUGE MISTAKE getting involved with them in the first place. They lie and cheat those working to come up. Theyre holding me to a 3 year contract even though they nearly $7k I spent with them the first year provided absolutely ZERO results! Steer clear of this company.Business Response

With regard to claimed missing magazine copies, when our sales rep first signed up this client she asked him how she could meet with him to give him a copy of each monthly magazine. He said he wasnt sure and the sales rep suggested he could stop by my her office and pick up copies of the magazine in the break room which is always open and thats where copies were left for him each month. The magazines started to pile up and our rep did call to remind him, but he did not respond.
With respect to ROI, our job is to oversee and create good content with our team for the magazine and get his ad directly into the communities we mail the magazine to each month. Our advertising solutions have helped thousands of local businesses build loyalty and brand recognition in the community. While we cannot guarantee how many new customers will walk through the door, our magazines are one of the most powerful ways to effectively reach local markets. We will continue to work with this client to place their ad in front of an ideal audience every month.
Lastly, our local rep truly cares about her clients and does everything possible to make them happy. Unfortunately, this client has responded with negative messages and attacks on her character. This is sadbut we refuse to respond in kind. We continue to stand willing and able to help this client and his business.Initial Complaint

I used Best Version Media to help members of the *************************, community advertise as well as advertise my own listings when I was working there. As a marketing manager in the past, I know how critical final proofs are before a piece goes to print. I am writing the Better Business Bureau to file a complaint about the unprofessional service of BVM, as well as posting false and misleading information and threatening to keep posting false information to the public unless I pay for ads that were not sent with the final proof. The ads they are running now were not approved by me, and they are using ads without my permission. This is not acceptable. The false information is circulating, even though the homes have since sold, and I asked them to take it down. I am a real estate professional with over a decade of experience, and this is the first time I have encountered such a scary situation from an ad agency. Businesses must take responsibility for their mistakes and take appropriate steps to rectify them. Customers should be able to approach ad agencies with confidence that their concerns will be taken seriously and addressed. Sadly, Best Version Media does not seem to share this same philosophy. So please beware of Best Version Media! This action raises VERY serious concerns about advertising professionalism and ethics. I introduced several new potential clients to them through my philanthropy of advertising other community members instead of my team. I would be happy to provide proof of all the times we did not receive proofs but were charged and how many mistakes were made before me stopping my ads for nonperformance. Beware. It is a liability to my brand to continue with Best Version Media. Best Version Media refuses to take the false and misleading ads down of my client's homes ( who moved out and new buyers moved in )unless I pay them and create new ads. Their mistakes have been too many to continue and now they are materially jeopodizing my brand.Business Response

I Was lied to and scammed. I signed a contract with many promises made by this company and have paid a lot month after month receiving nothing. So I made the decision to cancel and requested to do so and was not given any options. After becoming more ***** and upset the only offer was to lighten the amount and the length of time from 3 years to 12 months. Again I was clear about canceling and they refused to listen. I have paid for several months and receiving nothing so at this time Im done paying for something that is not happening. Im so upset about all of this time and energy wasted on this that at this time. They continue to promise me things I never received anything like copies of the magazines. At this point even if Im shown that there is in fact magazines that I have been paying for I am still done working with this company it should not take this much time and effort to get the service you are paying for. Since starting this process I have had some things come up that I can no longer afford these payments any more even if I wanted to which I do not either way. They are unwilling to work with you. I also have not received ANY business from the supposed ads. I have seen no proof of these ads have been in fact running as they claim. I have received absolutely nothing yet they were more than happy to keep taking payments with giving me nothing. I have also since looked them up here in the BBB and other places online, there are nothing but reviews and complaint and after complaint and there are hundreds if not thousands of reviews stating the same issues! All I want is to cancel and stop this ridiculousness.Business Response

- ** October, 2022, ************************* Care agreed to pay Best Version Media a fee of $485.80 for marketing services. - At the time of agreement ************************* Care agreed to try BVM marketing services on a month to month basis - A credit card was requested and ************************* Care provided one and signed for the one month fee of $485.50 - We were not aware that this was a 36 month contract and we did not knowingly sign a contract - We called in January, 2023 to cancel the service. We explained that we were not aware this was a monthly charge and we want to stop charges and all services, and we cannot afford any more.- BVM has also charge an additional $120 monthly for services we never agreed to and that makes the total $605.50 - We have tried to resolve with our marketing Manager, ******************************* at ************ / ****************************************** We have also tried to contact the BVM headquarters in response to letters and calls received from their legal team but do not get any resolve - ******* has told ** that we are legally obligated to pay this amount for 36 months and our only recourse is to declare bankruptcy - We asked for a copy of the contract and we do not recognize it and do not believe it was presented to us as a contract for an ongoing 36 month period. ** the contract and found that BVM is supposed to send a monthly copy of the proposed advertisement and ask ** for any changes or corrections. - We would never have signed a 36 month marketing contract for our business, as we are a new business making no money and only looking to build our client base - We are seeking resolution to end all ties to BVM and end all charges made monthly.- To date we have paid a total to BVM of $4,238.50 and have gained no new clients. Over a 36 month period that would total $21,834, and after 7 issues and 7 months it is unlikely that ************************* Care would see any return on that investment. We are asking for the charges to stop and the business agreement to end.Business Response

On June 23, 2022 **************************** &*****'s husband, ***************************, attended a Zoom meeting during which our local rep gave a standardized presentation created by BVM that explains, in very specific detail, the scope of our community sponsorship campaigns. The presentation also details what is required of magazine sponsors to ensure Best Version Media has everything needed to organize and oversee campaigns on-time per the terms of any agreement we make with a sponsor.
One of the most important concepts our local reps communicate to prospective sponsors during the presentation is that Best Version Media's sponsorship marketing campaigns are intended to function as branding vehicles, as opposed to direct advertising campaigns. Our rep clearly explained to **************************** and ******* the differences between traditional advertising and sponsorship-based marketing. Namely, successful branding takes time and requires frequent and consistent visibility among the intended target audience of prospective customers. Further, the longer a branding campaign runs, the more effective it becomes.
The Best Version Media standard presentation deck used at the meeting has a slide specifically dedicated to the term length options for our campaigns: 12, 24 & 36 months. We offer discounts on BVM's standard rates that increase in line with the term commitment, starting at no discount for 12-month agreements and increasing in discount on a 36-month agreement.
At the conclusion of the presentation **************************** & ******* said they would have to think about the discounted 36-month agreement and could not commit to anything at that moment.
June 24 to June 27, 2022: Over the ensuing approximate five weeks our local rep spoke with ***** on the phone multiple times. The subject of the conversations was always the price.
Our rep ultimately asked ***** what monthly rate ******** could afford just so we could finally determine whether or not BVM could help them. She stated that they could afford to spend $600 per month on a campaign. This was far below the best rate we had been able to offer based our pricing structure. However, in consideration of ********'s business being so local to our community and knowing BVM's core mission of bringing communities together while also supporting small businesses with sponsorship opportunities, we agreed to a discount rate well in excess of our normal discounts.
On June 28, 2022 ******** executed the 36-month agreement. Both the print and digital agreements clearly state the 36-month term on the very first page of the agreement. The first page of each agreement goes so far as to list each and every one of the 36 months during which BVM is committed to run the campaign.
October 2022 - December, 2022 Our local rep requested on three different occasions to meet in-person with ******** and discuss her sponsorship campaign. For various different family and work-related reasons, she cancelled each agreed upon meeting.
At the end of the day, we have provided this client with exactly what they contracted for. Our communication pre-contract signing was clear about the cost and duration of the ad campaign.Initial Complaint

I was taken advantage of by Best Version Media. A sales representative from Best Version Media came into my office one day and gave me a really good pitch about marketing with them. I was told I would be an expert for our business and would advertise for $384.40 a month. He would help me write some articles to promote my business. The first month had passed and I had not heard from him. (and still havent heard from him) It was when my billing statement came out, I noticed a withdrawal for an additional amount of $195 for some ******** advertising. (We had never discussed any advertising with ********** So, I contacted him asked him to cancel that and give me our money back. Well 3 months later and several calls. It was finally canceled and we never received our money back. After this had happened and our business slowed way down to where we started laying people off, I called to cancel with them. That is when I found out the 12 month contract that I was told actually was for 3 years. I was so upset that I tried calling someone else to cancel and all I got was that they could lower it to an 18 month contract. Even Though, I was lied to and they took 3 months -totalling $585. For an advertisement I had no knowledge of and that they never reimbursed me for, as well as NOT even 1 lead from this magazine. ( I get ***** leads a month from 2 other magazines I advertise in) I have not heard from anyone in that company since then. They are unethical and only out for themselves. They are taking advantage of small businesses, as well as the owners that are thriving to make a living and wanting to make their companies successful. I am requesting assistance from the BBB to hold the company, and the publisher of Best Version Media accountable for the lies and money they have been paid the prior months as well as getting me out of the contract. I would strongly suggest that No one advertises with this company. I am so stressed out about having to deal with Best Version Media.Business Response

I opened my business at the end of August 2022. I was sold on advertising with Best Version Media both for the direct marketing to specific neighborhoods but also for the use of the *************************** (DTS) which did social media marketing, but more importantly, has a portal to make quick changes to business hours across all sites that would list hours for a business. When I signed up, however, the process was very complicated. I received many emails and then requests to delete one email and sign a different one, etc. I take responsibility that I was overwhelmed at the time with opening my new business and maybe didn't read things carefully enough, but I never thought or understood that I was committed for an entire year for both Best Version print and for DTS. Also, a poll of FB friends who live in the areas that the magazine was supposed to reach, said they had didn't get it or simply didn't read it. With the stress of a new business and lots of expenses, I did approach my sales person to try to get out. Of course, he said I couldn't but did eventually reduce the size of my remaining ads and sold me (again) on the use of DTS for the quick hour changes, etc. A month ago we had another snow storm that caused me to have to close the store early. I went to make the changes to hours on DTS, but this time it wouldn't change on ****** as it had in the past. I contacted ****, my sales person, and he was going to look into the issue, but I never heard back. I had to manually change to hours directly on ******, which takes longer so still didn't happen before we actually had to close. This caused me to check all the other listings. The hours did change on ******** for that day, but all other sites that someone might look at to check hours didn't update at all. I wrote to **** again asking that I be let out of my contract given that the promises of DTS haven't been fulfilled and don't work as I was told. I never got a response.Business Response

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID ********, and have determined that this does not resolve my complaint in the least. They did write to me and made an offer that did not address my overall complaint in the least. My complaint has to do with promises for both the print advertising (Best Version Media) and the online services (***************************). These two separate entities were sold as a package service, but they were always billed separately. They have now combined to all be under Best Version Media. The promises made to me when I first signed up have been very far from reality. I have asked to be released and refunded for the months that have been charged since my request to be released first was made. The $40 reduction off of my approx $800 month charges that was made was an insult, and that is the offer I denied.

*************** here again which I did initially on June 2nd. Since that time it has come to our attention that some of our linked online listings that are supposed to be controlled with a "one-stop-shop" for changing our hours has never actually updated since we changed them in April. This company lies to get you to sign. I sat down with ****** to discuss what she was offering. I asked many questions as I've been down these roads before. She said they weren't ready to go to print but would have it out before the fall so I could see a return on any investment. I didn't like that as the time table I was interested in advertising for was the summer into fall. I was then told I would be contacted for designing an advertisement and a timeline for print and could decide then if it would work. I asked to see a paper contract as always and got told we don't do that but I didn't need one right now as it was just an intent to advertise and I would be emailed a contract. What a lie! Now they say it was a contract and I can't get out. I never approved or designed an advertisement. By the time the contacted me to advertise it was way past what we discussed. I don't many things via email. I also told her this and only deal with real people I can meet with and trust. She said she would be contact. Well I've been called by everybody else looking for money and where is she? This company gets you to sign under any lie they can and turn it over to billing. When that doesn't work they turn to collection agency. I just received a letter from them and I still won't be paying these crooks. I asked them to take me to court in my local county and I would fight them there but no response. You will not get a response back for anything from this company.Business Response

Our local rep sat down with this client at ******************** in *******, *********. The two had a conversation about the ************** & ************ **************** and our hopes for getting the magazine to print by summer (no promises were made, just that it was still pre-print, and we were determined to be in print ASAP). They discussed that paper checks were the best way to go for payment when the client said he was interested in advertising. The client mentioned that his wife would definitely prefer mailed checks.
The client signed the agreement in the cafe for the check monthly payment option. When we were getting closer to going to print, our local rep asked the client directly for a design or general design concept for our designer to put something together.
Our rep heard nothing from the client, and then was called by another person, who told our rep that he would be my new point of contact for the company. They had a good conversation and we put an ad design together based on his request. We printed it as promised. When no payment came through from the company, our local rep called the client, but she did not get a response, and I left messages. Our rep also dropped off the first few magazines at their business location, but she couldn't get a hold of anyone there, so she tucked them in the mailbox. At the end of the day, we have done everything as promised, and this client has simply refused to pay.

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID ********, and have determined that this does not resolve my complaint. For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.
Let's start with the "contract". She put a computer in front of me and said I must sign. I asked for a paper stating what I was signing and was told they DO NOT DO THAT. Don't worry she said and told me I could read through it all on her computer. The print was in a separate box and very small. Don't worry she said It was just to hold a spot for when print was available. This is there lie, don't fall for it!Second, let's address this approval for print. Let them show where we ever approved anything. I specifically told them I did not wish to advertise with them or in the winter months. They begged me to reconsider and told me it would run the next summer. Ha what good was that? The pictures they used in the ad they sent aren't even ours, they pulled them out of thin air and now have our name on them! If they have put our name out in a magazine with these false pictures, we don't appreciate being slandered. I certainly did not give anyone permission to false advertise my company!!!
Email from the representative, this is 4.5 months later and I hadn't even heard from anyone. Then was told it was a contract and then they finally emailed a contract over and said that is what I SIGNED, Then given 5 days to submit an ad, come on, really:

Hi ******,
I don't want to advertise with you. You are long past the date you told me this would go to print. If you can't keep your word I don't care to do business with you.
I already emailed to let you know this. This idea joke! I'm cancelling any contract you think we have!

***,
I'm sorry it took a while to gain enough sponsors to get this community project together. It costs me over $7,000/month to design, write, print and mail this to ***** homes each month (growing home count)! I had sincerely hoped to have it ready for this summer, but at least your contract will carry over through the end of next summer. You were not charged for any months not in print during our ramp up. It does state in the contract that the ramp up can take up to 12 months. After ************************************************************************ print. I hope you'll work with me, not against me, to give the community your name in the way you want it portrayed. I will throw in a complimentary full page business profile for one of your 12 months to make up for the longer-than-anticipated wait time. Let's plan to meet in ******* sometime this October to discuss the 1st copy and plan moving forward. I can have them use hi res ***** *****s to design the ad if you'd like. Our deadline for my designer to have all client directives is 9/20.
Again, I am very sorry. Please do reconsider,

We signed a contract with The Best Version Media Company about six months ago. Our represented informed us when we signed up we would get a magazine every month. We got the first two magazines on time but following that we have not. We are now in March of 2023 and we have not received our magazines for the months of January, February and March. I am paying $500.00 dollars a month and i don't know if the magazines are going out. I have also emailed my represented to change my ad to the magazine and there is no response.Business Response

This client has had EVERY magazine issue to date, delivered to them. After they said they had not received them, our local rep went to their office, again, on Friday March, 3rd - and took a photo showing our rep was leaving all 3 copies they claimed not to have received. Copies were placed under their front business door, as they do not have a drop box.
With respect to requests for ad changes, the request for an ad change was submitted on 2/27/23 and they had a response from our local rep 2 days later, on March 2nd.
We believe we have done everything in our power to deliver high quality advertising for this client, and remain eager to continue our professional relationship.Customer Answer
