On October 14th, 2022, I purchased an Ariens Edge 42-inch zero turn mower from my local Lowes store located in ************, *****. I am a retired Navy Veteran and shop Lowes as they offer a 10 percent military discount to Military Veterans. I paid a total of $3,214.05 for this mower (I have a copy of the original receipt). Some further information to add:Ariens Edge 42 Model ****** Serial number ****** Total number of operating hours when I started experiencing problems: **** Engine is a Briggs and Stratton Model # **N8770074G1 Serial # ************* I tried troubleshooting the problem myself by changing the fuel filter, cleaned the air filter, replaced both spark plugs and checked the battery for voltage. The battery had sufficient voltage at ***** VDC. When I could not resolve and fix the issue at hand myself, I went to the Ariens website an found an authorized Ariens Dealer who provides service and repairs. That dealer is ******************** located in North ********, *****. I took my mower to ******************** for repair on the 28th of October 2023. Since then, none of the service techs, Department Managers or Assistant Managers at Salemis have been able to receive any information from Briggs and Stratton on process of repairs under the warranty. The Standard Warranty Terms in the Briggs and Stratton Operators Manual that came with the Ariens Edge Operators Manual states on page 10 that for Consumer Use the warranty is good for 24 months. If Briggs & Stratton cannot help communicating with ******************** in North ********, *****, then how do I go about having this mower repaired, receive a refund, or a replacement?Business Response

I purchased a portable generator 2 weeks ago. I unboxed it, only to find that a wheel was missing. As instructed, I called the phone number listed on the packaging and owners manual rather than returning it to the retailer. The phone number was only a recording sending me to a website listing nearby service centers. One appears to have been out of business for years, while the second was a private residence. I refuse to spend time chasing service centers.I started looking for customer service contact numbers online. Every functional phone number has the same number directing me to the website. Some phone numbers listed on the internet purposely had only 9 digits, so that they were basically non-functional.I found email tabs for customer service that did not allow an email to be created, but were actually links that sent me to the page listing service centers.I somehow stumbled onto a fill-in form to submit, which I did a week and a half ago. The form said I would get a response in two business days, but havent been contacted yet. I dont know if the system even created a ticket for this issue.Briggs and Stratton obviously does not have a customer service entity, or at least one not available to the public. Can the BBB assist in making Briggs & Stratton respond to me?Business Response

I contacted a Briggs and Stratton Installer in ************** **** who is part of a network of installers for Briggs and Stratton in *********. The installer did not install the infohub hardware into my generator but he did create an account with my name but he also failed to register my generator with Briggs and Stratton. I have called, left messages and emailed Briggs and Stratton numerous times and nobody is willing to solve my issue. I believe someone in their IT department could remove my fake account created by the installer, then have someone in the company register my generator with B&S. This entire operation should take less than 10 minutes but nobody is willing to help me solve this issue, it should be an easy fix. I have been exchanging emails with *****************************, ************************************* and ***************** who's emails is ********************** and works at ****************************************************************. This should be a very simple fix but so far its been impossible to get any help from this company. The electrician who installed the generator refuses to have any contact with me. All he does is sell and install generators for Briggs and Stratton and he provides no customer service. I just want this fixed. I am a Disabled Combat Veteran living on a fixed income, if I could pay someone to fix this I would but it can only be fixed by Briggs and Stratton.Business Response

I purchased a Yardmax log splitter 3 years ago. The unit was powered by a Briggs and Stratton CR950 engine. I noticed a small amount of oil leaking at the time but is was so little that I didn't want to go through the process of contacting Yardmax. Well just recently that leak grew worse to the point that I couldn't operate the engine anymore. I removed the motor from the unit and discovered that it was probably a hairline crack that finally broke a small piece from the crankcase cover. Now I tried multiple ways in finding my engine parts information from the Briggs and Stratton website. I entered the model and serial number and it was like the engine was never in their lineup. I finally was able to get to someone from Briggs and Stratton on the phone. I gave them the engine information with a request that I needed a crankcase cover. I was told that the part was unavailable and when I inquired about a part number so I could look for an aftermarket I was told there wasn't one. This left me to go to Harbor Freight and buy a clone of the Briggs and Stratton motor. It is almost identical to mine. I bet the crankcase cover on that would fit the Briggs motor. I would like to know why an engine that is only 3 years old does not have an essential part available that I could purchase. At the least they could provide me with a part number of the case so I can check with a parts supplies.Business Response

Briggs and Stratton left a voicemail for the customer. Unfortunately, the part that the customer is looking for is a non serviceable part. The customer would need to take his product to a authorize dealer for any type of warranty consideration. At this time we can not honor his request for a replacement.Customer Answer

The customer representative said they could not provide a crankcase cover for that particular model. I will try and order it through Harbor Freight's parts department. They have a clone Predator model that looks the same. I am out the cost of the engine and am hoping that the parts (crankcase cover, gasket and bearing) will fit my Briggs and Stratton motor so it isn't a complete loss. If not, I am out on that issue because they will not take returns on those items. I am very dissatisfied with Briggs and Stratton.

Last year in November 2022 I purchased a Briggs and Stratton S1700 electric power washer on Black Friday. Waited until spring to use so no winterization needed. Out of the box the unit would not **** up soap from the soap tube. In April ************************************************** ************ ** for repair. ************ has been telling me a lot of BS on our weekly calls. Skip said somebody rejected the claim and wanted verification that the soap intake was not working (keep in mind this is what it was brought in for). Test was done and claim recreated.Nov 11th, Skip said they (you) sent me a check instead of another unit and it was a done deal. I have not received nor want a refund.Nov 30th. I bought a Craftsman riding lawn mower in 2020 from *********** I use the mower to cut my grass in IL 5 months out of the year for an hour a week. 3 weeks ago while cutting my grass the mower made a loud popping noise and died. Most of the oil spilled out of the mower. I called for service and was told that a crank shaft in the mower broke and the engine needs to be replaced. This is not something that should happen to that gets so minimal use. I tried to call briggs and stratton. They do not have a customer service department you can speak with. My 1st thought was that there must be a recall on these engines or if not, there should be. I was directed to local dealers/repair service. I was told since the engine is out of warranty that I would have to buy a new engine for a minimum of $700 plus labor. I also called ****** where I bought the mower and they also could not refer me to a contact at briggs and stratton. I want them to replace the engine and determine why the crank shaft inside of their engine broke. Maybe this will help other consumers with the same problem.Business Response

I am not rejecting the response from Briggs and Stratton. However, I do not want the case closed. I have to get the mower to a certified dealer to have them inspect the motor to determine if the 3 year old motor has a broken crank shaft due to the manufacturer defect. The dealer will take 3 to 4 weeks to inspect the motor. My case should be left open for the manufacturers response to the findings.

I purchased a lawn mower on 5/14/2023 from ********** in *****, **. This lawnmower ran 4 times over the period of 5 weeks. On July 4th, when engine would not start, I contacted **********, who informed me that they could not take mower back after 30 days. On ****** website (and Briggs and Stratton) I found vendor references for repair. The repair service I used was All **** Power Equipment in *********, *************. They picked up my mower and 2 weeks later informed me that the engine needed to be replaced due to an engine issue that cannot be repaired, They contacted Briggs and Stratton who informed them that the replacement would not be authorized. Warranty for Briggs and Stratton engines per their documentation is 24 months.Warranty for the mower through the ****** documentation is 24 months excluding the engine, which is provided through the engine manufacturer (Briggs and Stratton). I feel at this point I am due either a refund of $349 or a replacement voucher for a comparable mower.I have made multiple phone calls, which go to either dead air, busy signals or promises of call backs from both ****** and Briggs and Stratton. ****** directs me to Briggs and Strattokn for ****** problems and there seems to be no way to break their electronic switchboard to speak to a person. I get circled from one menu of options to another to home with no way to speak to a human being.Business Response

[ I was provided with a list of businesses to reach out to get repairs done on my lawn mower on Friday November 3, 2023. I completed contacting them by Monday November 6, 2023. Those six business references were unable to help as they do not provided lawn mower related service. Those companies instead worked on telephones, generators, and plumbing. This is what I was given by Briggs and Stratton. I reached out to Briggs and Stratton and they gave me a dealer (***'s Lawnmower and told me to reach out to ******. I did as instructed on same day and an employee told me ****** was out for the day. I asked them if they do delivery/transportation and they said they don't do that all. How can I get my lawn mower to the business then? It does not work and it can't fit my car. I just want my refund. I have been running in circles with Briggs and Stratton for months. This is not a business should conduct itself and it's quite shameful their new lawn mower brake down after a few months and it's even harder to get warranty work done and helpful customer service. This process has been exhausting. ]

[When I opened the warranty claim and followed up with customer service, I was repeatedly told that delivery/pickup is covered with my warranty. The riding lawn mower is too big to fit my car. I purchased the machine in February 2023. It broke down in July 2023. Since it was purchased from *********** it has passed the stores refund/return date. Briggs and Stratton is trying to pass the responsibility and issue on to someone else and therefor not honor the warranty of the product they sell. I want a refund to solve this issue. I stated it before, this problem continues to not be resolved by Briggs and Stratton. I have been told to wait for an update, given recommendations of business to reach out to that don't even work in the same industry, and lied to. I want my refund. ]
