I had a son in February of 2024, and my hospital bills have still not been taken care of by Solidarity. They claim to be working on them, but it has taken so long and not gotten anywhere to the point where the hospital has sent my balance bills to collections now. I also have numerous other bills that Solidarity has labeled under processing for months now. I have already fulfilled my annual unshared amount with Solidarity, and ever since then all my bills have been just sitting in processing untouched. I pay all my monthly payments to Solidarity, and they never reimburse or resolve any of my bills.

I have been a member with Solidarity Healthshare, a ***************** which facilitates sharing of healthcare costs between members, for several years. During that time I pay a monthly member contribution amount of $769.00 (annually this is $9,228.00). This contribution means that Solidarity will facilitate/pay my healthcare bills in excess of $2500.00 annually (known as the Annual unshared Amount - AUA). Nearly a year ago, Dec. 7th 2023, my 1 year old son was in the hospital for 5 days with RSV and the bill came in at $13,984.50. The hospital submitted the bills to Solidarity within 90 days and Solidarity has still not paid their portion of the bills. I have contacted Solidarity about this issue about *************************************************************** it may take an indefinite amount of time for them to pay it (meaning they may never pay it). The hospital is wanting payment and has told me that if Solidarity cannot pay it they can offer me financial assistance. All the hospital needs is for Solidarity to drop the claim, which Solidarity told me they have no way of doing. So Solidarity cannot pay the bill in a timely manner, if ever, and they cannot drop the bill so that the Hospital can offer me financial aid either. Essentially this means all the money I have paid them throughout the year is a waste. I am stuck with this massive bill that I should not have to pay if Solidarity could simply pay the bill or drop it from their system and let the hospital know this. This has happened several other times with other smaller bills with other providers that ARE STILL UNRESOLVED EVEN AFTER 1.5 YEARS!!

I had my physical with M Health Fairview on 12/02/2021. I sent my bill to Solidarity in January, 2022 after receiving it. The bill was $1173 which I was able to get it down to $720 from M Health. ********** said they were only going to pay $636 of the $720. The bill is high because I did not have health insurance. Solidarity is a health sharing company. I was with Solidarity HealthShare and paying a premium of $300+ a month all of 2021, I was also a member in 2020. All members pay into Solidarity through their premiums and your bills are reimbursed by members premiums. I pay for my services at the time I received them or when billed. We submit our own bills to Solidarity for payment and it must be done just right, or they will refuse them. I called 5 times in 2022. In my file at Solidarity, it will tell you who I have talked too. I was told it was being processed. I called 2 times in 2023 and ***** on 8-16-22 told me it being expedited and a check will be released. I have called 2 times in 2024. I finally was told by ****** on 08-27-2024 that my $636 is in process; but I am not their first priority as I am not a member anymore. I said I was a member in 2021 and paid higher premiums so I would get my bills paid. I also told him; I paid all year in 2021 for other members bills to be paid. I would expect the same for my bill. He said when they have extra money, they will pay me. This is a Christian organization, but they do not follow the golden rule. I believe I will not get paid from them at all. They just tell you to have a blest day every time I call. I have bills like everyone else that need to be paid. The reason I left Solidarity HealthShare was due to the fact that if I had a major medical issue like cancer, for example, it wouldn't get paid. It's not like I am asking for thousands of dollars. It is $636. My membership # in 2021 was *********.

On 6/22/23, I had a well-check ************* According to Solidaritys policies, well checks should be fully covered between price adjustments & sharing from other members. On 12/12/23 I called Solidarity to find out the status. A representative told me that they would be paying my provider & that I would owe nothing. On 12/19 I emailed Solidarity asking them to escalate my need but the response said they would not. On 1/16, I tried to make a 3-way call with Solidarity, my ****************** Solidarity left a message with my provider asking to place a ***** day hold on my account. On 1/20 & 2/13 I received more bills. On 3/14, I called *************************** said they would share in the amount of $219.27. We again tried a 3-way call - Solidarity left another message requesting more time to pay. I called my provider on 3/27 & they said my account was being elevated; if the balance was not paid by someone, they would begin the process to discharge me from their practice for failure to pay. I called Solidarity on 4/9 & told them I was on the verge of being removed from the ************ was told that since I am no longer a sharing member I am now the lowest *************** have no timeline as to if or when they would share in the bill. On 4/23 more 10 months after the visit, I paid my bill in order not be discharged from the practice & have my bill sent to collections. I asked my provider if they would give an uninsured discount, but they refused because, even though Solidarity did not pay, I was insured at the time of the visit, so I was responsible for the entire inflated $566 balance.

Solidarity has not made any payments to reimburse me for claims that were filed after my shareable amount had been met. I spent hours calling and emailing them and I still have yet to see one check. I even had to pay providers out of pocket when I wasn’t supposed to since they insisted on it after not having been paid for so long. Solidarity claims that the payments are in queue for checks to be sent out but it’s taken months to years. Their system is inefficient on both their side and the consumers making it impossible to track anything.

I don't know what "has been matched with sharing dollars" means but until I see checks in the mail I don't believe that they will ever come.  Furthermore, I don't think you have a complete listing of what's owed from 2023 but I have too many emails and spent too much time already to have the patience to go through all the details for the tenth time.

Furthermore, were are already at the end of 2024 and I was sharing until recently..it doesn't make sense that I should wait for current members to get paid first since I had the expenses first and I truly believe you will never catch up with the current members and hence and I could probably never get paid.

    Sorry.

    Business Response

    Hello ********,

We want to express our gratitude to you and your family for
being loyal Members. Your support has contributed to Solidarity HealthShare and
helped fellow Ministry Members share their eligible medical expenses per our
Sharing Guidelines. Solidarity HealthShare serves as a responsible steward and
facilitator for sharing funds among our Members by adhering to these
    Guidelines.

In reference to your statement regarding your uncertainty
about ‘matched with sharing dollars’ I’d be happy to clarify. As a healthcare
sharing ministry, our Members share medical expenses each month. Since the
total of medical needs fluctuates monthly and as healthcare costs continue to
rise each month, we cannot guarantee a specific timeframe for sharing to occur.

It appears that you recently chose to withdraw your
membership, with August 2024 being your last active month. Please note that,
per our guidelines, eligible medical expenses are shared for active sharing
Members. As such, we prioritize the sharing of medical expenses for active
    Members first.

When joining the Ministry, you agreed to these conditions,
which are included in our Sharing Guidelines, which are available online and
    attached to this communication.

You mentioned concerns about our having a complete list of
your 2023 medical needs. For your convenience, we have emailed you a list of
all medical needs received for 2023. If you have any questions regarding the
list, please feel free to reply directly to that email and we’ll be happy to
    assist.

Thank you for your patience and understanding.

    Sincerely,
    Solidarity HealthShare

On April 10, 2023, I underwent a surgery pre-authorized by Solidarity Healthshare, my healthsharing membership provider of over 5 years. To-date, 18 months post-operation, they have failed to pay a single *****! Countless phone calls to Solidarity repeat the same refrain, the bills have been approved for processing but they have no idea when my providers will be paid. We have been forced to pay out of pocket or else be turned over to collections. We have paid over $12,000 out of pocket already and continue to pay monthly on a balance that we simply cannot afford to clear. In a 3 way call with the surgeon's office and a Solidarity representative, the Solidarity employee was so rude to the surgeon's employee I was ashamed to be on the call and apologized profusely. Solidarity states that if you leave the organization your bills will no longer be eligible to be paid. They are a thieving and dishonest organization, content to bankrupt their members all the while proclaiming to adhere to Christian and Catholic values. If I were to bill them my hourly rate for the time I have spent on this fiasco, it would easily clear any balance. I have had to cease much-needed physical therapy because I cannot run up any more costs. I personally know dozens of people who are or have been in a similar situation with Solidarity. They do not care about their members at all. Their only concern is writing tightly constructed legal policies so that innocent people will pay and pay while they stall and stall. It is utterly criminal!

We are Catholics and we joined Solidarity because it advertises itself as a Catholic organization and we believed it would share our values. Unfortunately, we have not found this to be the case. We were members of Solidarity Healthshare for over five years from 2018 through December of 2023. At this point, there are eight outstanding bills ($182.87, $176.00, $226.00, $245.00, $120.00, $183.75, $221.25 and $200.00), totaling $1,554.87, which date as far back as February of 2023, for which Solidarity has yet to make a payment. Some of these have now been sent to collections, and we are afraid that this will negatively affect our credit score. We have contacted Solidarity multiple times for each of the outstanding bills and their response is always the same. The bills are in “process” and will be matched with sharing dollars as they become available, but we are given no timeline.

We regularly paid Solidarity Healthshare dues for over 5 years through December 2023 and were hoping our outstanding bills would be resolved by then. Unfortunately, they weren’t, and we did not see a point with continuing with Solidarity. Solidarity now informs us that they de-prioritize the bills of members who have left Solidarity, no matter how long they were previously active and paid regularly paid their share. Furthermore, we recently discovered that they deactivate previous member’s accounts a hundred days after leaving, even when they have outstanding bills, leaving former members with no access to learning their status. It would make more sense to leave former member’s accounts active until all outstanding medical bills have reached a resolution.

We would like Solidarity to immediately pay our outstanding bills.

    Hello Mrs.***********,

We are committed to serving you as you were a Sharing Member for a few years. Health share plans are arrangements where a group of individuals voluntarily come together to share in each other's medical expenses as to where Health insurance offers guaranteed coverage for a set premium. When a medical need is waiting to be shared for payment, we do not have an exact timeframe as to when each submitted medical need will match sharing dollars. Once a medical need matches Sharing dollars it moves to a final Sharing queue and is Shared within 30-45 business days. Please note, per our Sharing Guidelines, active Members medical needs are prioritized first, with inactive Members medical needs being in line after that.

Upon reviewing your account, the remaining eight medical needs on your account have recently been matched with incoming sharing dollars. I have attached a screenshot for your records. Please allow 30-45 business days for the checks to be released for the bills that are attached to this thread. If you have any further questions or need additional assistance, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Thank you for providing us with an update and letting us
know that our needs have been “matched with sharing dollars”. However, we do
not feel that this will have been resolved until we actually see the checks
cut. It seems that we are always told that our bills are in some sort of queue,
whether it is “being processed,” being “batched” or “waiting for incoming
sharing dollars,” but that doesn’t help our providers or keep our bills from
    going to collections.

    Business Response

    Hello **** ***********,

Thank you for your prompt reply. The attached medical needs have recently been matched with incoming sharing dollars. Please allow approximately 35 to 40 business days for the checks to be processed and mailed. These medical needs were previously awaiting matching funds, and have now been processed and are in queue for sharing. Should you have any further questions or need additional information, please feel free to reach out.

    Customer Answer

Our original complaint was that our bills weren’t being
paid, but were waiting in a “queue.” According to Solidarity’s past two responses, this is still
the case and doesn't resolve our issue. Therefore we are rejecting this response.

I have a maternity medical bill that has not been reimbursed as promised. My son was born October 31, 2021. I was a Solidarity member at the time. Before cancelling my membership, I was assured that all of my bills would be reimbursed to me. All but one has been reimbursed as promised. I was made many promises that I would be reimbursed every time I called over the past 2 years. My last phone call I was told that my bill is still "waiting in line" to be reimbursed for something that occurred over 2.5 years ago. I was told over one year ago that my bill was being moved to the front to be paid out. When I first became a Solidarity member, I was assured that all bills maternity related would be fully paid. This bill amounts to over $6000. I have been making small monthly payments to the hospital as I wait for my full reimbursement to finish paying the hospital the money they are way over due.

    Hello ****,

We are committed to serving you as you were a Sharing Member for 3 years. Health share plans are arrangements where a group of individuals voluntarily come together to share in each other's medical expenses as to where **************** offers guaranteed coverage for a set premium. When a medical need is waiting to be shared for payment, we do not have an exact timeframe as to when each submitted medical need will match sharing dollars. Once a medical need matches Sharing dollars it moves to a final Sharing queue and is Shared within ***** business days.

Upon reviewing your account, we wanted to inform you that the service date on October 31, 2021 for $10,444.80 (Bill#***-0000002385-02), has recently been matched with incoming sharing dollars, and the provider will receive a payment of $6,399.92. While you mentioned that you have made payments towards this date of service, we do not have any proof of payment on file for this charge. Once the provider receives our check, you will need to seek reimbursement from them for the amounts you paid towards this medical need. Your other bill for ******* on the same date, October 31st 2021 with original charges of $2,020.00 (Bill#***-0000030379-00) has also recently been matched with sharing dollars. The current billing status shows $498.50 going towards your AUA along with $1,521.50 funds being shared to you.

Please allow ***** business days for the check to be released. If you have any further questions or need additional assistance, please do not hesitate to contact us.
    Sincerely,
    Solidarity HealthShare

This complaint is concerning DOS 10/9/2023 totaling $3,324.00. Solidarity sent a repriced check ($511) in April to a wrong address, check was returned, and now the money is back in "queue" with no timeline of when it will get paid. The medical group has been contacting us about the payment for several months and I have repeatedly begged to put the bill on hold. Earlier this week, I sent yet another email to Solidarity asking for an update on the situation and letting them know that I would be sending a BBB complaint on Friday if no progress was made. Sure enough, a representative called Friday morning to tell me the bill was finalized- which actually means nothing- to convince me not to file this report. It has been "finalized" they say, but cannot give me an estimated timeline. When my husband and I did a three way call with Solidarity and the billing agency to ask for, yet, ANOTHER, hold on the account this morning only to learn that the bill has been sent to collections as of July 27, 2024. We are horrified by the business model and SCAM of this company. Solidarity only resolves these issues when the BBB gets involved. This has put our growing family under so much financial stress just waiting for this bill to be paid. We have had insurance for 8 months and would leave Solidarity, but we are still waiting for them to pay the bills! On the phone and on their website they preach Gospel values. Meanwhile, they take our money, but they will not pay the bills! Read what ***** says about hypocrites (Mt 23:1-36)! Finish the Job!We are so thankful for the BBB for being a powerful advocate!

I am writing to urgently address a series of issues encountered during our membership with Solidarity Healthshare. We are currently facing the threat of being sent to collections due to Solidaritys failure to pay medical bills, despite having met our annual unshared amount (deductible). We withdrew our membership from Solidarity on March 31, 2024, after our medical providers refused to work with Solidarity due to ongoing non-payment issues. The following details outline our two most urgent bills:June 14, 2023: My sons, **** and ***********************, underwent ear tube placement and adenoid removal with ******************** ENT at Park Place Surgical Hospital while we were members of Solidarity.June 13, 2023: We paid $2,128.72 for the pre-op appointment with ******************** ENT, covering the remainder of our annual deductible. Solidarity was responsible for the remaining surgery costs at ***********July 10, 2024: Over a year later, we received bills from ********** for $3,524.77 for ********************* and $3,523.92 for ***********************, indicating Solidaritys failure to pay for over a year.July 18, 2024: I contacted Solidarity, and they confirmed the bill was processed but could not provide a payment date. Park Place refused to hold the account due to their history of issues with Solidaritys payment failures. We were advised to pay the bill by August 9, 2024, or risk being sent to collections.July 19, 2024: In a phone call with Solidarity representative ******, I was informed that no payment date could be provided, and the advice was to let the bills go to collections with the hope of requesting a hold from collections before it impacts our credit. This prompted us to request an audit from Solidarity outlining outstanding bills. This audit has revealed a significant number of unpaid bills dating back to 2022, further highlighting the persistent issues with Solidaritys payment practices. The situation has become untenable. We urgently seek accountability from Solidarity.
