After a review of my bank account, I became aware of a monthly fee that was being deducted by Stamps.com. The fees started on 5/28/21 when I created an account to ship one item to one of my students. I was unaware of a monthly recurring fee of $19.61 (that increased to $21.79 in March of 2023) that would be deducted from my bank account. In total, I have been charged $518 in service fees from a company that I have received 0 services from. I contacted customer service and was told that they would refund $40 in fees. I declined that offer as I believe I am owed all $518 that was debited from my bank account. There was no supervisor available to help with this dispute and I was told to call back at a later date. I never received a receipt for these charges in my email.Business Response

I am rejecting this response because: the registration process is obviously unclear and confusing leading to people erroneously signing up for a service that they do not want. This is evidenced by the number of people who mistakenly signed up for a monthly service fee when no services are actually rendered.
it is clear from my account data that I never used the service past my initial purchase nor did I receive monthly statements informing me of the debits from my account. While I appreciate the $250 refund, I would like the full $518 refunded. Thank you
Sincerely,

At one point in early **** 2023 I was desperate to ship a package and didn't know how. Found myself on stamps.com and tried to print shipping labels (it was complicated shipping, shipping international). I never did manage to ************** printed but did give my credit card number and somehow ended up having a stamps.com account and getting charged $19.99 per month for **** and July. I've spent about an hour total figuring out how to log onto my account, watching the site freeze, trying to see past charges listing, etc. Finally I called their phone number trying to cancel and was on for ~20 minutes before giving up and hanging up. To me it looks like they trick people into signing up for a $20/month account and make it virtually impossible to cancel. FINALLY I found in the online account a way to cancel the account so I did it. But I'm still out all the money they charged me before, ~ $40.00 total for nothing, and at least an hour of my time wasted.I desire a %100 refund for every ***** they've charged me to date.Business Response

Better Business Bureau:
I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID ********, and find that this resolution is satisfactory to me.I'm not sure how I signed up for a $20/month obligation, because I know for a fact that at the point when I must have signed up, I only need to ship one thing one time. I don't normally ship things at all, so doesn't make sense that I'd sign up for something like this. I tried maybe 2-3 times to stop the subscription but each time something intervened. The last time I tried, I couldn't find out how to cancel online, and eventually as I kept looking through the site's menu structure the site became unresponsive. So I tried calling via phone and waited on hold for about 20 minutes, then finally remembered the BBB. Then, eventually I did manage to log back onto the account and close it through the menu on the site. But boy was it difficult! To me it just looks like a system that is extremely easy to sign up for and extremely difficult to turn off. I'm a normal person, an engineer actually, with average or above intelligence! Yet I was going for weeks knowing I was being charged $20/month and couldn't manage to do anything about it.
Sincerely,

Just saw that Stamps.com have been charging me $17.99-$19.99 a month for an account i created to use once since April 2021 (2 YEARS). I would never have signed up in the first place if I would have known it would have charged me without any monthly statement or notification that these charges were occuring for a service that I never used since making the account. Over two years of never accessing the account and the only notice was a recent "changes to your account" in March 2023, that went to spam. I only noticed because the bank account it was using became overdrawn. I'm quite amazed that they would charge so much without any notice or requirements of the changes to the terms of service that occured over the past TWO YEARS or any confirmation or requirement to agree to those changes. I just cancelled my account but I expect to have some compensation returned, if not all of it.Business Response

I used Stamps.com to purchase and print a single prepaid shipping label, making a ONE time purchase for $10.00 on 22 May 2023. Without my knowledge or any explicit agreement from me, Stamps.com subsequently charged recurring monthly charge of $21.34 to the credit card I had used for the ONE time purchase. I did not notice the first recurring charge of $21.34 on 22 Jun 2023, but when the 2nd recurring charge of $21.34 hit my card today (22 Jul 2023), I attempted to contact Stamps.com regarding this matter, but could not reach their customer service department using the number on their website. It appears Stamps.com uses the tactic of tricking customers into signing up for a recurring service charge while making a ONE time purchase with vague wording in small type that is buried deep inside the acknowledgment statement that is displayed on screen while making the one-time purchase process. I never received any sort of email about signing up for this service, nor was I ever subsequently notified prior to the recurring charges hitting my card. Bottom line, I never explicitly agreed to start any type of "plan" and the only Just look at all the similar complaints here in the BBB records and you'll that his company is incredibly sneaky and shady in how they entrap and charge for ongoing plans that are not desired or requested by the customers. This scam by Stamps.com is incredibly unethical.Business Response

Stamps.com software prompted us to do an update. We followed the prompts. Then the program would not let us print stamps. We called their technical support and were on the call for 2 hours with an answering center offshore. They knew nothing and could not help us. They said the software has bogs but refused to even open a ticket saying it would make them look bad. We contacted the corporate office but no one would answer. We have many accounts with them and now all are not working. This company is inapt and its mismanaged. They always have problems with software updates and almost every year we have to spend days working on fixing the issues. We need a prompt fix. We will file a complaint with the postal service inspector general since they should be required to resolve these ssues.Business Response

I got an email from **** saying an outbound package would be delivered. I never sent a package. I contacted **** who said it was being sent using stamps.com. I emailed their customer service and was told I'd be contacted in 24 hours. No response. I have never had an account with ********************** and don't like it seems incredibly easy for anyone to use it to commit fraud.Business Response

Dear *****,
Thank you for your inquiry. We appreciate and consider your feedback and take your concerns very seriously. We apologize for any confusion or misunderstanding on this. We understand your concerns about receiving this email and apologize for any misunderstanding. The message that you received does not indicate that you have been charged for a Stamps.com product, but it may indicate that a Stamps.com customer is utilizing our service to ship a product to you.
The possible customer has used our software's "E-mail Tracking Information" option to send delivery confirmation to you about an item that you ordered from them. Unfortunately, we do not have any additional information about this order or customer. Rest assured that it does not indicate that you are a Stamps.com customer or have an account with us,or that you are the sender (you may be the recipient). Again we apologize for any confusion or misunderstanding on this.
If we can help further, please let us know.

I am rejecting this response because:I did not receive a package from someone using stamps.com.
My complaint is someone using stamps.com used my address to send a package. I do not use stamps.com so don't understand how you allow someone to use my address to ship packages.

On 10/5/21 I signed up for an account on **********************. There was no clear indication I would be charged a monthly fee when I signed up. So I was unaware that I was being charged every month from 11/5/2021-7/4/2023 resulting in a monetary loss of $385.79. Never once did I receive an email or a letter from the company telling me my credit card had been charged for the monthly fee. My stamps.com account number is ********. I would like a total refund for all the monthly service fees charged to my credit card.Business Response

We never charge people without their full agreement and awareness during our online registration process. Our service fee is not based on usage or activity. The monthly subscription service fee that Stamps.com charges is for access of the Stamps.com software, which allows customers to print postage from the comfort of their home or small office using just a PC and a printer. Our service is a monthly subscription service so its not based on usage of the software, but rather on having access to using it.
We believe in full disclosure, and information about our fees is available on our website, interface, Terms, and FAQs.
During registration for a Stamps.com account, we explain that your credit card will not be charged unless you continue past the four-week trial or buy additional postage and Online Store products. We believe the monthly fee provides a good value for customers who need to print not only just Priority and Priority Express Mail shipping labels, but also Shipping Labels for other classes (we support ****************** Mail, and Parcel Select Labels),NetStamps, and postage printed directly on envelopes. We do have a wide variety of customers - over ************* customers- who enjoy the experience of not having to rely on expensive postage meters and who require more functionality and features than what other PC ******* services currently offer.
On our main page at www.stamps.com, we explain our fees under the section "Here's how it works..." During the registration process we do make sure that our customers are aware of the monthly service fee in that we have it detailed on the webpage titled Why do you need my credit card information?
We do this so that customers can see the price before they complete the registration process. We also have the billing policy detailed in our Terms and Conditions at:
www.stamps.com/conditions
Customers are required to review and agree to these Terms prior to completing registration.
In addition, potential customers can review and compare our pricing plans, as well as other important information, to determine which plan best meets their mailing needs via the Learn More section which is accessible from the Stamps.com home page. We offer FAQs that answer questions about pricing, plans, and specific and general benefits of using Stamps.com:
******************************************************
**************************************************
The fee we charge gives you access to services of the *********** and the license to print official U.S. postage. Its a flat fee that is not determined by how much postage you print. Stamps.com is a vendor licensed by the USPS,and all paid postage goes directly to the ***********. In order to offer our standard service, we do charge a monthly subscription fee.
If we can help further, please let us know.

Hello,Stamps.com has been billing me monthly since February. I started receiving spam emails from Stamps.com in February, but do not recall opening an account. I had credit card fraud with the same credit card number, and believe the account was created in my name using my card number. I was able to login using a password that I had used years ago, which had also been stolen, but have not used recently. I have never used Stamps.com. I checked my credit card history and have been billed for Stamps.com monthly since February. I am contacting my credit card company to dispute the claim. My statement number is #********** - 87106472.I expect this to be fully resolved.*******,*****Business Response
