In March 2020 I uploaded $10 into a Stamps.com 4 week trial account, used $3 of it the balance, and was then unknowingly charged a monthly $17.99 fee for the following 35 months. Three years later I got a note that Stamps.com was raising my monthly fee. I canceled my service, then requested Stamps.com return my money but they refused to do so. They put me on hold aStamps.com (owned bv ************** and led by Auctane CEO ***********************) is an extremely dishonest company that is running a scam. I would like to get my money refunded.Business Response

I am rejecting this response because: by arbitrarily offering an additional $100 they are obviously fully aware of their actions. They know they scammed me. I request that they return the balance of my recurring charges occurred over the 35 months. How many people do they continue to scam by not sending timely updates, customer statements, or any other transactional messages or notes describing their recurring charges?

In June 2022 i signed up for a free stamps.com account to mail something from the convenience of my home. I used the service again four times since then. I got an email from stamps.com today indicating my service was going to go up to 19.99/month. i never agreed i was signing up for a monthly service. why would someone sign up and pay a total of $125 + shipping to mail four small packages? I immediately closed my account and called their customer service line. I requested a full refund and was told after waiting on hold for 10 minutes i could get a $30 refund. I said i thought that this should be illegal and said i would submit a complaint to the BBB, at which time, the support analyst put me back on hold to talk to a "coach" when they returned they said that i would now get nothing form them.I am looking to get my service fees refunded from this enterprise that has never contacted me in any way except today, 7 months after sending a packageBusiness Response

Back in October 2022, I received from stamps.com "free" stamps you can print in your own home, when I received the promotional material, I said wow what a nice thing I received. I tried to print the stamps, but it never worked. I don't really know what happened after, but I was tricked into getting a subscription with stamps.com. They have been charging me $17.99 for the past 4 months. When I called to stamps.com they apologized, but they were not able to refund the whole amount. They offered to refund only $50, which is only a fraction of what I was fraudulently charged for 4 months for the use of a "supposed" service. They are keeping $21.96 for a service I never requested or subscribe to. They are clearly tricking people into getting a subscription, which is a bad business practice.Business Response

I just discovered a recurring monthly charge of $17.99 from stamps.com on my credit card that has been happening since at least 2/26/22. At one point I must have ordered stamps from them figuring it would be easier than going to the post office. Little did I know simply ordering stamps signed me up for a monthly "plan" fee of $17.99 each month which I of course haven't used as I don't even really know what this "plan" is for (and I have no need for it as I can drive to the post office once every 2 years for stamps for a lot cheaper than $17.99/month). Looking on BBB I can see I'm not the only one who has fallen for this. Seeing as I'm one of many complaints for the exact same thing on BBB, I would hope stamps.com would see their current notification for this plan fee is nowhere near sufficient. I would appreciate my money back, but honestly I would be happy to give up my $200+ in fees to have them simply change their notification regarding this plan/subscription fee so others don't make the same mistake. Thank you.Business Response

Similar to other individuals on the BBB complaints site, stamps.com began charging me a monthly subscription fee in April of 2022 for signing up for their site. The sign up process deceptively lures you into entering credit card information just to make an account, and after your "4 week trial" period is over you are charged monthly fo for a service that I never used nor never knew I was being charged for. I would like a full refund similar to other complainants. This sneaky/scammy practice is well documented in this gentleman's blog post:********************************************************************Business Response

To best serve our customers, we provide the terms for Stamps.com accounts during the registration process. In addition, immediately after sign-up, new customers are sent a Welcome Email with the same terms outlined, along with information about the monthly flat rate fee if you choose to continue past the trial month.
The fee we charge gives you access to services of the *********** and the license to print official U.S. postage. Its a flat fee that is not determined by how much postage you print. Stamps.com is a vendor licensed by the ***** and all paid postage goes directly to the ***********. In order to offer our standard service, we do charge a monthly subscription fee.
While the **** offers a free online service called ************* Stamps.coms fees pay for features not offered on-line by the ****. We do have a wide variety of customers over a million customers- who enjoy the experience of not having to rely on expensive postage meters and who require more functionality and features than what other PC ******* services currently offer.
On our main page at www.stamps.com, we explain our fees under the section "Here's how it works..." During the registration process we do make sure that our customers are aware of the monthly service fee in that we have it detailed on the webpage titled Why do you need my credit card information?

I signed up for a free trial of stamps.com on 6/22/2020. Unbeknownst to me at the time, they would begin charging a monthly subscription fee for the service after a trial period. They charged my credit card $19.50 every month since, and didnt send any emailed statements or reminders that Im in fact signed up for this on-going service. In total, over 32 months this came out to $624 in credit card charges. It wasnt until this week when going over statements in fine detail that I realized. The sign-up process and subscription charging setup was performed in a very sneaky manner and based on existing complaints Ive come to realize this is probably part of the business strategy. This business practice should be illegal.Business Response

The way they're running this service is sneaky, and clearly illustrated by numerous other folks who have had the same exact issue. I created an account with the service to send one package. It was not clear at the time that it was a subscription service. After the first monthly charge I logged into my account looking for a reason for the transaction. I was unable to find any place that indicated the reason and I did not receive an email invoice, statement, or even confirmation of payment. Due to the lack of info, I assumed it was additional package processing fees due to some issue passing through customs. Since then, they have continued to attempt to charge a card number that is no longer valid. After searching the web I found this is a common practice for them and closed my account. They still continue to attempt to bill my card. The company claims to offer 24/7 support by email, phone, and chat. I can not find a chat option on the site. Calling them went nowhere.Business Response

Why choose a BBB Accredited Business?BBB Business Profiles may not be reproduced for sales or promotional purposes.
BBB Business Profiles are provided solely to assist you in exercising your own best judgment. BBB asks third parties who publish complaints, reviews and/or responses on this website to affirm that the information provided is accurate. However, BBB does not verify the accuracy of information provided by third parties, and does not guarantee the accuracy of any information in Business Profiles.
When considering complaint information, please take into account the company's size and volume of transactions, and understand that the nature of complaints and a firm's responses to them are often more important than the number of complaints.
BBB Business Profiles generally cover a three-year reporting period, except for customer reviews. Customer reviews posted prior to July 5, 2024, will no longer be published when they reach three years from their submission date. Customer reviews posted on/after July 5, 2024, will be published indefinitely unless otherwise voluntarily retracted by the user who submitted the content, or BBB no longer believes the review is authentic. BBB Business Profiles are subject to change at any time. If you choose to do business with this company, please let them know that you checked their record with BBB.
As a matter of policy, BBB does not endorse any product, service or business. Businesses are under no obligation to seek BBB accreditation, and some businesses are not accredited because they have not sought BBB accreditation. BBB charges a fee for BBB Accreditation. This fee supports BBB's efforts to fulfill its mission of advancing marketplace trust.
