I am filing a complaint concerning SunPower's delay in processing the transfer of our solar lease to the new buyer of our home. We are in the process of selling our property, with a closing date scheduled for November 13, 2024. SunPower has quoted a 30-60 day timeframe for this lease transfer, which does not align with our immediate closing deadline. This delay is causing significant stress and could potentially jeopardize the sale of our home.
Our sale of home information request ticket number is *******. We have provided all the required information for the transfer and have reached out to SunPower’s customer service team for assistance in expediting the process. However, the responses so far have not been helpful, and we have not been given a clear path forward to ensure the transfer is completed by the closing date.
I respectfully request the BBB’s assistance in urging SunPower to expedite this lease transfer. A timely resolution is critical, and I believe it is reasonable to expect that SunPower will prioritize the needs of their customers, especially under these time-sensitive circumstances.
Thank you for your assistance in helping us resolve this matter.Initial Complaint

I am writing to file a formal complaint regarding SunPower's delay in processing my solar lease transfer to the new buyer of my home. I am currently in the process of selling my property, with a scheduled closing date of November 13, 2024. Despite initiating the transfer well in advance, I have been informed by SunPower that this process may take 30-60 days to complete. This timeframe is incompatible with my closing deadline and risks delaying or even jeopardizing the sale of my home.
My sale of home information request ticket number is *******. Despite providing all required documentation and attempting to work with SunPower's customer service, I have not received the necessary support to expedite this transfer in time for the closing date.
The lack of urgency and transparency from SunPower has been deeply frustrating, and I am seeking their cooperation to expedite this process so that it is completed before November 13, 2024. As a homeowner and customer, I believe it is reasonable to expect SunPower to assist in facilitating a smooth and timely transfer of the solar lease.
I kindly request the BBB's assistance in resolving this matter with SunPower and ask that they be urged to complete the transfer process by November 13, 2024.Initial Complaint

Leased solar system has been inoperable since January 2024. SunPower has repeatedly ignored and stalled repairs/replacement of defective system. Contract requires SunPower to maintain system and produce a guaranteed number of *** each year of the lease agreement. SunPower refused repairs and allowed the system to be uninstalled and returned to the manufacturer but failed to fix/reinstall the system. To date, the system has produced no energy/minimal energy for the period of January through present 2024. The company **** the YEAR 10 guaranteed production payment, the system needs to be 100% operational and producing energy, and a refund for lease payments for January through ****** need to be reimbursed. In addition, the company has promised a payment for the "pain and suffering" of this ordeal - but has since filed bankruptcy and continues to call to request past due payments and assess late fees.Initial Complaint

Escrow and sale of my home has been delayed substantially by SunPower. Escrow close date has been missed twice as a result of the delays. Company has been non-responsive to inquiries for update and has not honored requests for updated commitments and time frames. These delays are impacting me as the seller but also the buyer who is unable to move in while escrow is pending, as well as the buyer of the buyer's home, so 3 families are impacted as a result of Sunpower's delays. Its been well over a month and there is still no commitment date of completion.Initial Complaint

I LEASE Solar through SunPower. The system stopped working in 6/28/24 after a 3rd party came out and fixed a previous problem. In the middle of my unresolved work order #******** SunPower filed a Chapter 11 Bankruptcy. Bankruptcy # ********. Now I have a LEASE amount of $150 that I pay for a LEASE on a broken product. SunPower says they have nobody yet to repair the SOLAR for people that LEASE. Not only do I have to pay the $150 LEASE agreement for something that is not working and unrepairable at this time I also have ELECTRIC bills of $513.05 in the last 4 months which would normally be $25. I would like SunPower to refund me the $600 LEASE PAYMENT PLUS the ELECTRIC BILLS that I had to pay for a system that does not work. For a grand total of $1,113.05 AND I need my SOLAR FIXED! I have been told by SunPower I can get one of two companies they will let us call to fix the system. Each company they allowed us to call will charge me $300 just to come out and look over the situation as a start. So SunPower wants me to pay to have their equipment repaired.Initial Complaint

September ******* first signed contract for ***** agreement . $220 a month for 25 years. first payment was made on Feb *******. The contract was for 26 solar panels and a 13 kW battery storage system. The contract included guarantee of energy production of the 26 panels, efficiency, and storage of the 13 kW battery plus a 20 year warranty on the equipment (panels) and 15 year warranty on the battery. System has not been fully functional since within 3 months of installation. by our contract agreement it has a warranty for 15 years . We have emailed & called numerous times and tried to get them to fix the battery so that our system can be fully functional with no response or resolution. The business has filed for bankruptcy and has not returned our calls or emails about a resolution for our equipment which is not functioning. But they do keep sending us emails stating that we are still responsible for upholding our end of the contract, meaning we are still responsible for paying the monthly lease payment, even without being able to access the services and benefits we are entitled to based off of the contract. We are being told we are responsible for paying for services that we are not getting.Initial Complaint

I bought a 1st loan at foreclose auction on 01/02/24. When I bought the house I called Sunpower multiple time and they said the system was paid off. When I went to refinance my house about 6 months later they sent something saying $70,000 was owed on the solar even thought before I was told it was paid off. They also mentioned I am not responsible for the lease ($70,000 or the ucc filing on my house since I bought the house at auction and my name is not on lease. They then did offer me a $5000 buyout to keep the warranty. I paid the $5000 and was suppose to get the UCC Filing / lien on my house removed , solar contract removed , warranty in my name and a tax benefit. after paying i called and they said the department is no longer there (sun power capital) and I need to call sun power finical. I called them and they could not find anything. I called back sun power capital and they said they have no way to look at anything and cannot help me. I called and waited another 4 weeks and nothing I was promised happened. I was able to recall my $5000 with my bank. Sunpower has failed to remove my lien and are holding me hostage on a refi that I cannot do by keeping the lien on my house that is not mine. I have made multiple attempts to work with them. They also called again after 2 months and tried to get a wire this time of the $5000. I asked to them to remove the lien multiple time as well as I am not there responsible party.
