Honestly the worst loan servicer I had ever had the displeasure of dealing with. I wish I could give them a negative rating on this. They have the worst system in place for those who can’t make their payments. I had got laid off from my job recently and requested for them to do a forbearance for my payments. They claimed that they “understood” my situation and proceeded to say they require some sort of payment on my end. They even requested to know how much I’m getting from my unemployment check in order to see how much I can still pay them. Zero empathy from them. I’m very disappointed at how they treat their customers. So if you lose your job, it doesn’t mean anything to them. All that matters is how much money you can still give them at the end of the day. I will never tell anyone I know to sign up with Sallie Mae because they have the worst system in place for those who become laid off from a job that wasn’t their fault. I would NOT recommend using Sallie Mae unless you are set for life with your current job. I hope that upper management see this and does something about it. They will continue to lose their customers if they continue to treat their customers like piggy banks and not actual people.

This company policy is so corrupt, I can’t believe their forbearance policy i legal!! I just called to try and extend my forbearance. I have been making on time payments for years, and just lost my job back in January. I continued to make on time payments until I ran out of money, and finally 2 months ago I requested a forbearance. They granted me 2 months. That seemed very short to me, but I figured I could just extend the forbearance as the date got closer. Today I reached out to extend the date as I’m still unemployed. They told me that I am ineligible for extension because I haven’t made 12 consecutive on time payments. I explained why I need to extend but they don’t care. They said my only option to to wait until my upcoming payment is past due, and the hardship team will reach out to me. So I have to have a late payment recorded on my account, and still have no guarantee that I will get help from them after the fact. When I asked if there was anything else they could do they literally said, “no there are no other options,” and proceeded to tell me that if my payments are late for 60 days that my entire account will go to collections. I have been paying my loan on time for years and this is how they help someone who is actively looking for work. This whole set up seems like a scam and should be illegal!!!

I've noticed recently that my account hasn't decreased accurately. I've been paying roughly $1,000 a month, in Nov, my amount was at 71,000 plus. I check my account today April 28 and my account decreased only by $1200, so I believe something sketchy is going on. Has anyone else been dealing with that?

I have student loans with this company. Now that I am trying to pay them back, I called because the payments were too hard. They enrolled me into a program that would have all my loans on auto pay at a much lower rate so that I could survive. While I am more than appreciative of this, they have failed to send this information to any other departments. Now both I, and my cosigners are getting called multiple times a day by multiple different agents telling me my loans are past due when Sallie Mae has already confirmed with me that due to my program they would not consider anything past due and pull everything up to date. They are not doing this, I am still getting harassed by phone calls, and emails saying I'm past due, and when I call it takes 3 hours to reach someone who can confirm that my program is good and I'm not going to be past due. Then the cycle repeats, and the best answer I get is, "Well eventually it will stop. Eventually it'll register. We guranteee this won't affect your credit."

Why am I getting harassed day and night when you've already told me it's okay? It's literally causing my wife mental anxiety at this point.

If you see any positive reviews on this company they are lies and paid this company I have been with since 2017 and because I went to a trade school I can not refinance my loan but this company will not help you if you are struggling or have been through a natural disaster and if they do it will be the 9th person you get on the phone who finally does their job properly. I have continuously not been helped by this company and if it wasn’t for the fact my dad was my co-signer I would just not pay for my loan at this point I’m over the company and they don’t deserve anyone’s money. I recently asked to do a forbearance which I have done before and I had talk to 11 people freaking 11 people!!! And I got to the point where I gave up because instead of offering me the forbearance or something that would help me they just say “well if you pay this amount now then you pay won’t be 73 days over due instead it will be 32 days over due but you still have to pay everything that is owed and continue to go in debt and be passed due….

Kept in contact with them while I was out of work taking care of a family member and covering all the bills. I was told sorry that sucks but what can you pay today or can you ask a family member for money to make the payment! Since then all I get are rude customer workers or condescending and very rude voicemails. I’ve made minimum payments for my student loans so it isn’t sent to collections, and now my family members are getting calls from Sallie Mae claiming to be debt collectors and or “police matters” and I need to sign legal documents. Meanwhile the number they call from and number they leave to call back at they never answer, and don’t have a voicemail set up??

I have never dealt with a more unprofessional and rude customer service team. I have communicated with them numerous times and have had had nothing but rude, condescending tones and the most unhelpful, lazy answers given to me. I have had nothing but an awful experience with these people, and their rating should reflect nothing but that. I would rather have my loan serviced through someone with a higher interest rate if it meant that I wouldn’t have to deal with this company. I have been charged incorrect interest amounts numerous times, and they have done everything they can to justify their actions without looking into the issue at hand or simply explaining how the interest was calculated or when it was accrued. This is the worst student loan servicer out there, and I could not recommend them less.

Like I have seen other ppl say Sallie Mae needs to be shut down their employees don’t care about helping people at all I have only ever had three helpful people who have heard me out and my struggles and have helped. Normally when I call in I get rerouted more than 5 times and each person tells me something different or ask different questions each time I get a new person. I have had Covid, I have lost my house in a hurricane I have had to relocate because of abuse I was dealing with and each time it seems like they don’t want to help you at all, I have tried changing my loan company but the issue for me is I went to a trade school not a college so every time I look for my school I can’t find it so I’m stuck with a company that doesn’t care about their customers what so every. I have even thought about getting a lawyer with how horrible this company is. They need to be investigated and shut down

SallieMae should be investigated for the way they do business. They are the most dishonest people I have ever dealt with. They kept charging interest during the pandemic while everyone was suffering. in addition, they take more than two weeks to post a payment so they can collect more interest. They must be INVESTIGATED.
A rating of 1 is too much. It should be -1.

Predatory Lending. They prey on the young to take out student loans and they tell them you don’t have to make payments while you are going to school. Meanwhile interest is piling high on the loans. How do they expect someone to pay ridiculous amounts a month and survive in this crap economy. I am stuck paying on loans that I co-signed for because my child can’t. Realistically, I can’t either. I called and asked for other payment options and they don’t have any other options but to put the loan in forbearance. I am ready to just say screw it and let my credit go to crap just to get out from under them.
