1 starIf ZERO stars was an option I’d pick that. This is the absolute worst lending company in the history of lenders. I’d rather sell my soul to the devil himself than recommend or deal with these people ever again.
Unfortunately life events led me to getting behind on my payments. Harassing phone calls, emails, letters in mail daily were received. After receiving an email that there are alternative payment plans. I spent 5 days calling at about an hour each call trying to get something set up. Day 3 of calls, I was able to set something up I could afford. The next day, there was a debit transaction from my acct that was more than the agreed upon payment and days before agreed upon transaction day. Causing chaos in my bank acct. I called again regarding this and somehow the transaction isn’t seen. 24 hours later and still no transaction seen. But the rep that helped with my payment plan did not remove auto pay. No one has been able to help. Auto pay plus agreed upon payment dates still active an “not able to be cancelled” Fraudulent activity at its finest. The reps are rude, nasty, and while teleworking have their children running around playing with toys, crying, and have their cartoon tv shows blaring. Very professional!
There is and was zero explanation to what a variable interest rate is or how to successfully pay down your loan. The advantage that they take of young kids that want to better themselves but need the help is astounding. The reviews, low overall rating score, and repeated complaints of fraudulent activity with an overall A+ review baffles me. Must be using all that money they are taking to buy their review.Review fromShannon D

1 starDo not. I repeat please do not sign up with this company. Constant problems with loan payments every single month. They will take your monthly payment directly from your bank account each month and then days later reverse the charge on their end all while the amount is still taken from the bank!! No reverse charge bc of the issue and no refund! They will charge you for a delinquent amount owed when they have already received the money!!! They refuse to help you and respond by saying "what do you want us to do about it?". Are you kidding me??? Even after talking to the bank multiple times, it's not the banks fault! So we're trusting Sally mae to post payments for a student loan bill every month. Where is the money is going then??... somewhere! Not to Sally mae according to the company. We have physical proof of the payments with bank statements. Unbelievable! So many lies, they will also not work with you and forward your call to multiple representatives. Don't bother trying to talk to a manager either, they're never there. Please save yourself the headache and get your loan from somewhere else.Review fromKim W.

1 starDo not trust this business. They will harass you by calling all your phone numbers and writing you emails every day and threaten to destroy your credit if you are one day late on a payment. They are mean, rude, and relentless in their communication. They say they offer alternatives, but those statements are completely false. They dont explain to you what variable interest rate is so you never have the ability to pay down your loan balance. They purposefully and intentionally take advantage of young kids. They know fully well their practices are fradulant.Review fromBarbara R.

1 starI wish I could give you ZERO stars. I have had the accelerate credit card and it has been nothing but grief since the very first day.
Today, December 13, 2022, my husband's card was rejected because some arbitrary setting in your system decided that his card needed to be rejected for "security reasons". He was at a physical retail location with the chip on the card and his ID in his pocket. The customer service agent assured me that it was a one-time event and that he could go ahead and use the card. So he went on his next errand - WRONG. The card was rejected again. The LAME answer we were given was "wait 24 hours then try again". Seriously?
I couldn't even get a supervisor on the phone with authority to override the security flag - which was completely FALSE. He went to the same 3 grocery stores that he goes to every Tuesday for years, the usage pattern is completely normal. And by the way - it's Christmas. Don't you want people to use the card to buy gifts?
My only recourse is to wait 24-48 hours for a supervisor to call me back. By then the false security flag will have cleared itself anyway, so what good is that?
My payments are NEVER late. I spend a lot of money every month on the card, and I always pay the balance in full every month.
If you want a credit card that has terrible customer service, major gaps in capabilities (you can't even download transactions!), and does not work as advertised, then this one is for you.Review fromMikayla K.

Zero rating would be my choice, but unfortunately that's not an option. I have communicated with Sallie Mae multiple times about a different repayment program or finding a way to reduce my monthly payment. They wanted me to pay almost $800/mo and with the reduced amount it was still almost $500. My income to outcome ratio didn't match their desired numbers so they suggest I talk to my co-signer. My co-signer has been deceased for almost 4 years and they just kept suggesting I talk with them about helping with the monthly payments. Not to mention I have called and told every representative I have talked to there that my co-signer is no longer a valuable option and I cannot ask them for money due to them no longer being with us and not once have any of the reps put it on a note on my file. So, they suggested instead of asking my co-signer, to pick up a second job or find a better paying job so that I will be able to cover the monthly payments. I'm sorry, but when someone is already down and out about having to pay $500-$700/ month and the best they can do is suggest finding another job with better pay or pick up a side job for extra income is absurd to me. Very rude and a slap to the face. And towards the end of the call she said well since your co-signer isn't an option at this time, maybe speak with your employer about a pay raise or a possible promotion if you're not planning on getting a second job or side job. That's not how the world works in order to pay a student loan fee, nor will my co-signer EVER be an option from here on out. Sallie Mae is the worse customer service and all they see are dollar signs. They do not care about their customers or their situations.Mikayla K.

Not to mention when I called back to complain about my experience in hopes that no one else has to go through it all they could tell me was "I'm sorry you experienced that. Do you have any other questions or complaints"? RUDE! I hope no one else has to explain their deceased co-signer situation and remind the rep multiple times that they are deceased.Review fromFran D

1 starHorrible experience with this company. Have gotten the run around every time I call. Spoke to several different people and they all tell you something different. After my account manager told me I can get interest only payments, the financial dept said I am not able to get that. They sent you letters stating that you can get payments deferred, interest only payments, lower payments but in truth they don’t offer any of that. I am making a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. So please look for someone else if you are looking a place to get money for college.Review fromEric L

1 starSallie Mae is a horrible excuse for a lender. I am a co-signer of my son’s graduate school loan. We have had issues with them every single month despite calling them. It takes them 2 weeks to process a payment and meanwhile the money sits pending out of my sons bank account and I receive harassing phone calls and emails that payments are past due when they aren’t as well as constant spammed phone calls harassing me to make payments when they have had them pending for unreasonable amounts of time. It is NOT an issue with the bank but with Sallie Mae. Two different banks have been used and it is the same issue every single month. I asked for them to remove the automated harassing phone calls and messages to me which they say they do, but they don’t because they keep coming. I have an excellent credit rating and I have never paid bills or loans late. I have had loans for cars, homes, etc and have never had an issue like this with a lender. I fail to understand how this company has an A+ rating with the BBB when consumers continue to have issues with them. We cannot even set up the autopay function because it drops off their site. This business is predatory and unresponsive to issues. Customer reviews should have some credibility here with a business that has ongoing notorious issues in dealing with their customer base.Review fromTina S

1 starThe rating should be zero but your not allowed to do that. SallieMae does not care if your out of work or a federal employee who might not get paid every month. They don’t have a chat service that works. My account is sometimes not correct and there is no oversight by anyone other than SallieMae. They will not work with you if your having any problems paying. During the pandemic there were no suspension of payments even though we were unemployed and not getting benefits yet. They threaten to call your loan when you have trouble paying like you could then pay it. They call constantly if your less than a month late and send threatening letters. My republican representatives don’t care even though I have paid even while in school. It’s ridiculous. No one in their right mind should get a SallieMae loan.
