Better off getting a mob loan than dealing with SallieMae. They do not work with customers in trying to repay loans, they want you trapped in their high interest predatory loan.

I agree with the others that this loan company deserves negative stars. My step son has loans through them and we have always paid on time. The payment for April was sent and Sallie Mae returned the payment to our bank. Then they started harassing us about the payment being late, charged us late fees and tried to charging us a $20 fee for taking it back from the bank! We called customer service and EVERYONE we spoke to was rude as could be. They kept trying to tell us we didn't have the money in the bank. Umm, if we didn't, it wouldn't have been paid in the first place. The so-called supervisor we spoke with tried telling us it took 24-48 hours for them to get the payment, but they took SIX DAYS to pull this payment. Everyone we talked to, even the so-called manager, was trying to talk over us. They wouldn't take any type of blame for their error and kept blaming us.
They refused to reverse the late fee OR the $20 fee for them sending it back.
I knew their interest rates were ridiculous (almost $400 a month on 2 loans?!?!?), but now having spoken to their people in customer service, these loans will definitely be refinanced with someone who actually cares about their customers!

Customer service is appalling, they lose documents you upload to the website, I have been trying to request them to fix the loan amount for my son who is still in school, the school has provided them with the deferment, I have uploaded the document multiple times, they fix it for a month then it goes back to the wrong amount the following month. It is all about who answers the chat, for the same second loan we have they fixed the same exact issue within 3 days, they pick and choose what to do. Unreliable, untrustworthy, disappointment is all I can think of when it comes to Sallie Mae.

biggest regret ever going with Sallie mae. if you're one month behind they call you morning noon and night seven days a week! on Sunday!!! they also send multiple emails it's so bad I blocked them on my phone and they started sending text. They act like I don't know that I'm late and that I owe them after paying them for almost 3 years and struggling very badly the last year they don't care they will call you and call you and harass you. their fees and late fees are ridiculous their in school deferrment program doesn't help or work. I hate them so much they're worse than the IRS

I had a small loan of 3,000 from Sallie Mae from 2017 thru the end of my college career which was with a Masters in Athletic Training. I completed the schooling in 6 years with 4 years as a undergrad and 2 years Masters. I received All of a sudden this year they claim that I wasn't in school full time so I don't get a 1098 E because they claim I wasn't in school full time. I am preparing my taxes and they claim that I can fill out a form and submit it to the college and then back to them and they will see if I'm allowed to claim my interest. This isn't a matter of paying the company back, I actually only have a little over $800 left to pay. I realize that the interest isn't a lot but I should still be able to deduct it from my taxes. I would NOT recommend Sallie Mae for any type of loan, now or in the future. How does one go to having full time status on their loan confirmed from the college prior to loan to part time.

As a 18 year old, I was never told about the incredible amount of interest rate that was included in my private loan. I was taken advantage of as a young adult not fully being aware of the financial implications that were being made. Sallie Mae is a criminal business by taking advantage of young students that are needing to go to school. As my time as an adult and professional in the mental health field has grown, I try and try again to consolidate or refinance my loans, but to no avail, Sallie Mae has a monopoly on my life and I am unable to afford savings for many things that constitute a ‘successful life’ like a marriage, a home, or a savings. Thank you Sallie Mae for not being able to be affordable to a young adult.

This company deserves -5 stars. They are credit predators whose only goal is to bankrupt young adults. I have a loan with them that started at $4500. It started accruing interest immediately. I have been paying it off for 4 years and finally have it down to about $4200 because my interest rate is 14%. This is taking advantage of kids just trying to further their education. Their customer service is unhelpful and not helpful at all. It's like they have no souls or care for peoples hardships. I called in to see if there was any way to lower my interest, as I have never missed a payment. Their response was that the only way to reduce my interest was to enroll in auto pay (which I already was,) and it would save me a whole .25% on the interest. Only way to escape this is, if you can afford, to make multiple payments each month to save on the interest. This company should be investigated for something, because I'm not the only person to have this issue, based on numerous reviews on other websites. This has been going on for many years and no action from anyone has been taken. When I come across parents who are about to go to college, I warn them to not go with Sallie Mae.

I have called multiple times with complaints, the last time they offered to have a supervisor call me back in 24-72 hours, that never happened. We were forced by Full Sail University into believing they were the only student loan company they would accept. After complaining about the interest charged while in college they agreed to honor a military rate of 3% APR. After continuing to roll interest back into principal they finally removed our military discount and the APR went to over 13% with less than 30days notice. Less than 5years and a $30k student loan was over $44k. Shame on Sallie Mae for using strong arm tactics.

Worst lender I've ever worked with. Website is almost unusable and customer service will leave you on hold for 30 mins to come back and say they can't help you. But they will say they are very sorry over the phone. Interedt rates are crazy, they will harrass you until the end of time, and i have asked on multiple occasions for income based repayment options to no avail. Will never recommend anyone use their services

I wish I could wipe this company off the face of the earth. The interest rates are criminal, you’ll be called twice daily if not more if your payments are not received and you fall behind. The employees are rude, incompetent and lack empathy. Sallie Mae goes after 18 year olds who don’t know any better and coerces them into using them as their student loan lender. I’ve been out of school for over 4 years and owe more than when I first took out the loan. absolutely awful, miserable people and company.
