This has to be the worst company to get a loan from. I just made a payment almost 2 weeks ago and today they called my mother in law. Instead of calling me or the person listed on my loan for a reference, they called her. Not to mention I don't even speak to this lady nor do I have a number for her but somehow Sallie Mae was able to. What troubles me is that they are literally just sharing your personal information with anyone.

I wish I had read reviews here before accepted, but I wanted my child desperately in school. Sallie mae is the worst....
      1. If you have 4 loans they treat all 4 separately, so 4 interest rates, 4 scheduled payments, 4 emails, 4 text etc. then if you have hardship they only give u a month and after that you owe the same amount you had trouble paying. in other words they do not put your current to the back of the loan and let you start low. listening from customer service 0. they are only trained to take your money but try to make you feel good about it. I regret being stuck with them

Predatory scum. Anyone who works here should question their morals and humanity.

Sallie Mae does not allow you to pay down your premium. If you make additional payments and specify you want the additional to go towards your paying down your loan.

They also are technologcally inept. Their secure document uploading system doesnt work, so you cant release co-signers or submit anything on time.

Worse student loan company to work with. If you decide to take a loan out as a co-signer for your children. Look somewhere else. I didn’t realize this loan was a private loan meaning I could never apply for the new IDR Save program. And they only allow you to defer for less than 4 months and expect you to pay knowing they did a soft credit check on me to look at my finances & replied so your in the negatives financially so how are you going to pay your monthly payments? I told them I could pay as long as it was a reasonable amount and the employee said AGAIN how are you going to pay this? She asked if I could borrow money from someone to pay this & thats when I realized this company isn’t here to help you, they are here to screw you over and hope you fall in default with them so they could sue you. since my daughter isn’t working because she can’t find work and recently had a child all the questions they asked were geared towards me. I should have took the loan out myself since they interrogated me for a whole hour on how was I surviving with negative income after paying my bills. Don’t waste your time asking for a lower payment. Once you get approved for a deferment you can’t request another deferment for a year. The questions they asked were extremely personal. This company needs to get sued by all the people who gave negative reviews on here. They are not here to help your child with their education, they are here to screw you over in the long run with payments that do not go off your income.

Horrible, Terrible, should not be in buisness Loan was increased and approved was set to be disperced in a day, then agents kept stating they somehow only see the amount I requested prior to the increase, back and forth with different agents telling you different things each tine you call, some seen it and others didn't.
I hope the CEO reads these and and I would like a call from the CEO. As a parent who had Sallie Mae and chose it for my child, this tine around the experience was horrid. My child did not get to pick the bed he wanted in the dorm all because of Sallie Mae. I know if you knew what was going on at the front line, you'd be appalled.
I'm a customer service manager and your folks need retraining asap.

You are a terrible company who just wants to steal peoples money. I had to take out private loans to go to college because according to the federal loans my parents made too much money, but some peoples parents don't pay for their kids to go to school. So, I had to take out private loans. I didn't finish college because COVID almost killed me and now I'm so chronically ill I can hardly function let alone work. Yet you don't offer loan forgiveness for private loans unless I die. So, I have to work my butt off just to pay your exceptionally high rate per month all while inflation is killing the rest of us. Good job, I hope you are proud of yourselves for making so many people miserable and barley able to survive.

Sallie Mae is nothing more than a legal “loan shark” for private student loans. I co-signed for student loans through Sallie Mae for my son. Not knowing that when he finished school, he would be met with a monthly payment of over $1100. How can a person just finishing college be expected to pay such a high student loan payment. I have help with making the first 4 payments but it is starting to become a financial hardship. It is hard to pay for two mortgages and that’s exactly what Sallie Mae’s payment is. I called and asked if they could reduce the monthly payment and they refused stating that I could pay it the interest on the loan for 12 months which comes out to be $957 a month (WTF). They are not willing to even work with me to extend the loan and lower the payment. Whatever you do, don’t do business with this scam con-artist company called Sallie Mae.

I'd give them a zero if possible. This is an absolutely terrible lender with no existent customer service. They will harass you night and day, calling 2-5 times a day and sending multiple text messages about your payments, yet they cannot seem to get the auto pay that is set up, to work properly. Round and round we go with no solution or end in sight. You want your money, I want to give you the money, JUST TAKE IT ALREADY and leave me alone!!!

I do not have loans with SM but I am looking at the reviews here before I go ahead to seek a loan for my son but seeing 1 star for 99% of those who hold loans.....well, I'll go elsewhere. FO SM!
