Early August a sales man from Anthem Pest knocked our door offering pest control services it was a Friday evening. We agreed that they will come the following Monday to service indoors and outdoors, the initial first service costs $60 which I paid with my debit card. On Monday the service guy came and it was a stormy day, the storm knocked down our tree in the front yard and it was very dangerous to spray outside during the storm. The service guy was only able to spray inside my house and we agreed that he will be back for the second portion (outside)of the first initial service. Finally, late August, anthem came to spray outside which was a part my first treatment that I had already paid for only to find out that they charged me again but this time was for $114. When I called the company to complain that I was charged twice for the same service they refused to refund me back the money.Business Response

***************,
I want to firstly apologize for all of the stress and frustration this situation has caused you. As I have reviewed your account, your story coincides with the timeline and services you are referring to. It appears that our customer service agent who spoke to you at the time made an innocent mistake, and perhaps might not have understood the situation fully. I am truly sorry for this, and I can assure you we are better than this. As a result of this inconvenience, I have added a $114 credit to your account for the service performed on 10/23/2023 due to us not having came back to finish the outside treatment of your home due to the tree having fallen down in your yard. We hope this will resolve your concerns and rectify the complaint.

This complaint is not reflective of what happened with **************** whatsoever. **************** signed up for a 1 year contract with ** back in July of 2022, which entails a total of 5 services. *************** completed 4 of the 5 services with us. We explained to **************** for MONTHS on end that he had to finish his final service with us. On top of that, he actually did NOT request to cancel in January of 2023, because he requested service in February of 2023. When he told our technicians he wanted to cancel services, our technicians informed our office to reach out to **************** to finalize cancellation, **************** never finalized the cancellation process with our office which he agreed to do if he chose to do so in his contract. Our office for MONTHS attempted to finalize the cancellation with Mr. ****** only to be ghosted by him. Anthem rendered services every time we promised to per our contractual agreement, we always notified **************** days in advance about his appointments, and our office went above and beyond trying to get ahold of him to address his complaints, only to be ignored. Furthermore, he placed his preferred method of payment on auto pay with us in his contract when he signed up with us and agreed to let us charge him fees for service, and also any penalties for cancelling the contract prior to its completion. Anthem has gone above and beyond to try to resolve ****************** concerns and keep him in the loop regarding all matters related to his account, contract, appointments, etc. In no way, shape, or form, has Anthem committed fraud. Our records of communication with **************** prove that as well.Initial Complaint

On 6/13/23 I called Anthem Pest Control on a RECORDED line and specifically indicated I had a flea infestation at bottom floor of *********** and I was assured they could rid my home of fleas with one treatment & maybe a follow up. I was told their minimum commitment was 12 months/$129. The agreement was to rid the fleas on the initial visit and then general bug control for the remaining visits. The tech came on 6/15 and sprayed chemicals for fleas. I had to stay home the entire day because of the 9 am to 6 pm window. Tech told me that this should take care of it, was also told to stay out of the house for 5 hours and remove all pets from premises. The following week, I check, the fleas were worse. I called, spoke to a manager, and said that I needed someone to come back, and MADE SURE I told them it was for FLEAS. They arranged a tech to come out, I called AGAIN that day and reminded them it was for fleas. Once again, I take most of the day off, the tech then shows up with nothing to treat fleas, just a half can of bug spray for roaches, ants, etc, he didn't even know what chemical he was spraying. I had him call the office and he said that there was confusion. Also, he treated the area (with just a half can) while I was on premises. I was not asked to leave or remove my pets from the home? Next week- still infested with fleas. I called again, asked to speak with a manager...manager assures me that a Anthem Manager will be at my house the following week. The next week...Once again, I take a day off.....a tech shows, no Manager as promised. Sprays the same thing as always. I give it a few days, still fleas, the spray did nothing. I then called the Anthem manager and spoke to her. She said it would cost $170 to break their contract!!! I told them that a "contract" involves two parties and that they did not honor their portion. I am not paying $170 and also want my original payment back of $129. I had to hire ******** exterminators afterwards (paperwork uploaded)Business Response

*************************** came to my home on July 2023 on behalf of Anthem pest control. He was doing the typical sales person pitch when I opened the door. It was a hot day and he asked if he could come in. I obviously didnt want this man in my house but I advised him I am working as I work from home and it needs to be fast as I have a client on hold. He mislead me into believing Anthem would be out every month to spray for pests, I did not find this out until I received the contract later on. The gentleman that came out to spray did not do everything that was promised to me. The ants outside my home were not taken care of, the bugs inside my home were not taken care of. I have been mislead by Anthem and I wish for my money back and no penalty for cancellation. I have tried to contact the company several times to come back out and spray as I was told someone would call to check and see if that was needed, they have not. I have sent multiple email where I was told to call in, however I work mon through fri the same work hours as their office. I have been on hold when I have attempted to call on my lunch and nothing, and no resolution reached. I dont think its right to scam and trick people for paying for something you didnt provide. And then when help is needed as promised it is not provided.Business Response

Anthem Pest Control stole money from my bank account for a job they never performed, and they continue to lie to me and violate/breach the contract that was signed by both of us.1. when I asked about the beginning day of service, I was informed it would be on a Friday. They lied to me and indicated that this would not be the case. They cannot change the representative's statement; their hands are tied; they can only notate the account. For the previous seven to twelve months, when it is time for servicing, I get a call every other month.2. On May 26th, they lied to me about going to my house to do maintenance. My household comprises four people and two children, and nobody goes to work on Fridays. They have deducted $107.17 from my account for a service they have not provided. No one was there to execute the service when I phoned the office, so they apologized and told me to reschedule it for **** 2nd,2023. On **** 2nd, IT WAS A NO CALL NO SHOW.3. On 6/5/23, I contacted and spoke with Manager ************** Together, we concluded that a refund should be issued, and we would find a way to cancel the account.4. On **** 9th, I contacted you again since a refund had not been granted, and I had not received a response to my previous inquiry. ***, the Regional Manager, would not provide her name when questioned, and she refused to identify herself. Extremely impolite and dismissive, she informed me that she did not care what the other manager had promised and that she would not be providing me a refund for the $107.17 that they had stolen from me.Because the service was not carried out, I would want to obtain a refund.Business Response

1: sorry for the delayed response. You wrote your complaint to the ******* office and it looks like your home is being serviced by the ******, ** office. not sure why the BBB would send it here.
2: the reason why deducted payment from you credit card is because when you signed up for the service on 05/30/2022 at 1:12 pm you cave us permission to auto withdraw for the card on file. (please see attached documents.)
3: we serviced your home on 05/26, were unable to service the back yard. we then tried to come out again on 5/31 to make this right however you informed us that you would not be home.
4: as per the contract (please see attached documents) if you are not home for a scheduled visit we will come out for free to treat the inside or to reservice your home at no expense as long as you have paid for your scheduled visits. I do see
5: I do see that your account is closed however we're more than happy to schedule a reservice for you at a time convenient to you so that we can treat the backyard and inside.
6: if there are any further questions please let us know. thank you.

The community had two salesman coming through the neighborhood, knocking on peoples doors to sell pest control. When homeowners told them they were not interested, the sales people started to get very pushy and rude. The HOA started to get complaints so board members went and found one of them and told them to just leave the community since its a private community that has no trespassing signs, and also no soliciting signs in the front entrance.I was then told that I was lying and that they would NOT leave, and anyone is allowed to be here. So I explained again to look and read the signs that say its a private owned community. They then refused to leave until I told them the cops were coming and I was going to have their cars towed. They were completely rude, selfish and immature. I try to contact the company, but with no success. The association wants to make sure that this company knows what their employees are doing and we do not want any other team members back to the community. Or trespassing charges will be filed with the sales team and the company.Business Response

Last summer (2022) a man came to my door selling Anthem Pest Control services. He went over everything they would do in the service, and when I said "Can I cancel at any time?", he said "You do have to keep the service for a year; if you cancel before a year it will be a $200 charge". He used a tablet to enter my bank information and turned the tablet to me to sign. There was only a rectangle for me to sign. I was given no papers. Immediately the service was not what he had described. I've put up with this lack of what was promised for almost a year. A couple of months ago, I reached out to them via their contact form on their site. I received no reply. I called this morning and was told I can't cancel for 36 months or there will be a $279 fee. I asked for a manager, and was placed on an indefinite hold (when they put you on hold and never return). I waited 30 minutes, then hung up and called back and left a voice mail. No one returned my call from the first call today, and no one returned my call from the voice mail. I called again at 2:20 and was told the manager was at lunch. So this is a set of lies from their rep who came to my door, and no response to 4 attempts to speak to someone in charge. They simply want to take a person's money, not provide what was promised, and refuse to communicate with their customer. I would like to cancel the service without penalty as was promised.Business Response

******************,
I have reviewed your account. I see that the cancellation fee was charged by our staff and that your account is currently closed. The reason we charged the cancellation fee is that you signed a 36 month agreement. in that agreement that was emailed to ********************* on 08/18/22 at 12:29pm. it stated the following: "If for any reason service is canceled prior to fulfilling the agreement, by refusing to receive or pay for service, and the initial service has been performed, the customer agrees to pay the difference between $299.00 and the discounted price of the initial treatment."
I have also attached the contract verification form that the technician went over with you on 08/20/2023 at 10:55 am. it also states a 36 month agreement and a cancellation fee if cancelled prior to 36 months.
please let us know if you have any further questions.
thank you,

I am rejecting this response because: As you can see (and I hope others will check and see that complaints against this company are all the same), their pattern is to send a salesperson to the home and say anything to get the customer to agree to their services. The salesperson will say that you are signing a one-year agreement and if you cancel before a year, it will be $270. Then the customer is given a tablet with a rectangle to sign within. The contract is not given at that time. When the technician comes to the door for the first service, the customer is shown a small phone screen with a rectangle to sign within. The customer believes the company has sent truthful salespeople into their homes, but that is not the case. You can see from the complaint history that this company's tactic is the same, so much so, that it would have to be the company training their staff to do it this way. And really how else could a pest control company get a new customer to sign up for THREE years? NO ONE would sign up intentionally for a THREE-YEAR contract for pest control with a $270 fee to cancel. ************ is probably making its greatest profit on the $270 cancellation fee. Since the BBB does nothing but catalog complaints, I will be contacting other consumer protection agencies to lodge a complaint.
Sincerely,
*********************************Business Response

We apologize for any miscommunication. However the 36 months was shown on both signed agreements. This was explained to you on 2 separate days by 2 different employees.
our system is far from perfect but we do try to rectify any mistakes made by the salesman at time of service with the technician at time of service which is why there are 2 different forms.
both agreements were sent to your email once signed.

On August 19, 2022, an Anthem rep named *** came to my door telling me about their service and what it could offer. My interest was primarily focused on internal treatment rather than the exterior treatment that the company typically offers. I agreed only because I was told that internal treatment was available but only by request. They attempted to lock me into a two year contract and I informed them that I was only interested in month to month as I don't like being locked into contracts with services that are poor. They offered a one year contract with discount providing that I write a glowing ****** review for them, which seems now in hind sight to be a tactic. I was sent a contract verification, looked over it and as promised they came out quarterly however ant mounds continued to be built nonetheless. Fast forward to two weeks ago when I called them after noticing small roaches mostly around my dog's food bowl and then on the counters at night. I told them about it and mentioned that I saw on the contract verification that inside treatment was available by request and they subsequently scheduled a technician. Today (Thursday 5/25/23) they arrived and then informed me at the door that the only way that they would treat the inside is that I upgrade my plan and sign up for the two year agreement, to which I responded, "this is not in the contract". The technician then left without treating the house and I called the office to tell them to schedule my cancellation effective 8/19/22 as I was completely dissatisfied with their service and felt that they had been deceptive in their service offering. The rep on the phone stated that my contract stated this to which I responded that I was looking at it and it said nothing of the sort. The rep then said that the contract verification was not the contract and then sent me the actual contract. I mentioned that I was looking at every email they sent in my inbox and had never seen this contract. I would like a full refund!Business Response

I'm sorry to hear that you had a poor experience with one of our technicians. the inside of the home is always included. however after reviewing his notes he said upon his inspection he found German roaches. this is an insect not covered on your current contract which is why he insisted you upgrade. (German roaches are hard to get rid of and expensive regardless of who you hire to do so.) However I do see that we recently preformed a service on the exterior of your home on 06/08/2023. You currently are not in contract as of now since you have had your 5 services within the 1st year.
We can send a technician out to treat the inside and base boards of your home that is no problem. We just cannot guarantee to rid the property of German roaches because that process is more extensive, uses different methods and products it also requires a high subscription plan from us.
Please contact us at ************ and we can get you taken care of for the free re service.
I have attached your contract so that you can see German Roaches are excluded.

Anthem pest control made a visit to my home on March 4, 2023. The technician that came to my house was there a total of 4mins however his service statement said he was there for 22mins. He sprayed the front door and in front of the garage door and left! He did not treat my lawn, the sides of the house and did not even go into the back yard. The technician notes say he swept the ***** for spider webs and treated the soil, mulch, lawn and home exterior. None of that was done. I have cameras around my entire house and sent Anthem the time stamped videos. The service before that the technician came to my home and didnt even get out of the car but said they completed the service and charged me. Both times Anthem told me they fired the technician and would send another one. I dont believe that at all because it kept happening. Anthem also told me that I would be credited the $99 charged on March 4th yet its on my final bill. I canceled the service and will not be paying a cancel fee because they failed to provide the services promised in the contract. They broke the contract not me. I will not pay for a service I did not receive. I need for Anthem to remove the charges of $379 from my account. I do not trust this company and I dont want another shady technician of theirs on my property ever again.Business Response

Good Afternoon, I'm sorry to hear that you had a negative experience on your last service. I did review your account and I can confirm that we did compensate you entirely for the last service provided. I agree with you, you shouldn't have to pay for a sub par service. that being said the $280 cancellation fee is because you are signed up for a 2 year agreement. and received a $280 discount off of your original initial treatment. please see the the attachment and review the agreement signed by you. you can also see the "agreement terms" as to why the $280 cancellation fee.
in essence you have 4 remaining paid services with us. We'd be happy to make accommodations for you so that your home during each service. please contact us at ************.
