I purchased a three job advertising package from Career Builder for $1,500 for three months that I was told could be cancelled at any time. I signed up with ******************************* on 1/25/23. After almost two weeks ,I had received only a handful of applicants - very unqualified candidates as well. I've worked with Indeed in the past and Zip Recruiter right now and have never in 40 yrs. have experienced anything like this. In summary, I was getting nothing for $1.500 .I left countless phone messages with ******* asking this service (scam) be cancelled immediately because of the unacceptable results I was experiencing, but never received a response. I then called and emailed every number I could find for Career Builder requesting cancellation. On two or three occasions I did receive a "Case #" in response to emails, but never heard anything back. My last correspondence was with **************************************** who told me you had to give 90 days notice to cancel. First of all, I've never heard of such a policy with Job Advertising and certainly would not have signed up at all had I been told this. When I sent him this response, I never heard back. In summary. I have received nothing in terms of service that I'm now being charged $2,000 for. (They continue to charge me $500/month.)

      Dear *****,

Thank you for your feedback submitted via the better business bureau.

You confirmed that you contacted CareerBuilder stating that you would like to cancel the contact that was purchased in January 2023. ******************** Corp's notification of its intention to not continue was untimely under the terms of the Agreement as the Agreement was for a 12 month period and secondly, it did not provide ninety (90) days written notice of the intent not to renew.  As a result, the Agreement (CT-4757363) auto-renewed.  I understand that you feel you were unaware of these terms, so I have attached a copy of the signed contract.

However, given the situation I have spoken to our Accounts Receivable Team and we are willing to make adjustments to your billing after you have completed the instructions that were sent to you via email by the team.  Please see below for a copy of what was sent in that email from Accounts Receivable on June 9th.

      Good morning,

Thank you for contacting CareerBuilder. Please see the cancellation request process below.

Please reply to this email with your signed cancellation request letter in a word document on company letterhead addressed to CareerBuilder Legal for determination.

      1. Please note, this email template does not constitute as a cancellation approval.

      2. A cancellation request letter is required on Company letterhead as per CareerBuilder policy to be sent to the attention of CareerBuilder Legal, and thereafter you will receive a notification.

      3. Should you have supporting documentation for your cancellation request, please attach the documentation within the reply email.

Our legal team will review and determine if your account is eligible for cancelation. You will receive this in writing.

If they do not approve, you can discuss transferring some of your purchases under the Agreement towards alternative CareerBuilder products and services that you feel may be more suitable for your company with ***************************

      Thank you,
      Accounts Receivable

I look forward to assisting you further once the above has been completed.

      Thank you,

      Jacklyn

I signed up for a 7-day free trial with Careerbuilder.com and canceled this on 03.02.23. When I canceled, I also requested that my account be deleted. Please note - I NO LONGER HAVE AN ACCOUNT WITH THE COMPANY. I then received an invoice for ****** on March 1st which stated the invoice amount was due on March 31st, however, they had already charged my credit card on file. I filed a dispute with **** of America, which is my credit card and they are reviewing it and also requested I reach out to CareerBuilder. I did so on 03.24.23 and sent another email to which I received a response that they are looking into my complaint, but it may take more than a month to respond back. (I saved a copy of this communication). I just received another invoice for charges from April 1 - current for another $******, which I'm not sure is even possible with 1. NO account and 2. I have an open dispute with the company regarding their billing of my account.

      Hello ****,

Thank you for your feedback via the Better Business Bureau.

We sincerely apologize for the delay in a response and would like to thank you for your patience while our teams were reviewing your request.

After reviewing your request our teams have found that unfortunately instead of cancelling the subscription, you attempted to remove your user details from the account, but unfortunately this does not cancel an active contract.

This is an ecommerce purchase and our policies do not offer a refund on ecommerce purchases, however, as a one time gesture our team were able to get an exception approval for a partial refund basis your interactions with our team.

I can advise we will be honouring a refund of amount $673.50, your subscription has now been cancelled and you will not be charged moving forward. No further refunds can be disputed or will be provided.

      Kindest Regards,

      Your CareerBuilder Team

I am rejecting this response because I did send a message via the Contact Us option via the website on 03.02.23. If the account was closed as opposed to canceled, how would I get any further candidates or how would the advertisement be 'active'. I expect a full refund as the partial refund due to eCommerce is ridiculous. With no account to technically advertise means there was no eCommerce to be used.

      Sincerely,

      Good morning ****,
With the 5 day free trial that Careerbuilder.com provides, we offer the option to cancel before the trial is up.  You are able to do this on your end or by contacting ** via phone, chat or email so that we can provide you the steps to do so.  However, as mentioned in our previous email, simply deleting your information does not cancel the purchase.
Our records indicate that your contract was purchased on 02/24/2023 and an invoice was generated on 03/01/2023 in the amount of $449.  On 3/02/23 our records show that instead of canceling the contract, the user details were deleted from the system on the users end. Again, this would not have canceled the contract, only removed the user.
We investigated the claim of not being able to contact our chat team and found that during the timeframe in question our team received various other chats and no issues of outages or glitches were reported for that time or date. I would also like to note that there were other options available for contacting us such as email or phone support.
Since the contract was not canceled a second invoice was generated on 3/24/23 in the amount $449.
On 3/29/23 the client submitted a deletion of information request through the system, but again this does not cancel the contract.
On 4/24/23 a 3rd invoice was generated for $449.  At this time, the client reached out to Account Receivable via email.
After review of the situation and clarification of details on information received it was decided that we would cancel the contract, apply a 50% refund for the 2nd contract (3/24/23) and a 100% refund for the 3rd contract/invoice (4/24/23).  This decision stands and I hope the details above helps to further clarify the situation and why we have chosen to stand behind out decision.

      Hi *********,

I am in receipt of your BBB complaint, and I apologize that you seem to have been the victim of a job scam.

I would also ask that you forward any communication that you have received which you identified as scam for our team to review to *******************************. I do want to advise that we share information to help our job seekers keep themselves safe during the job search process. Feel free to visit ******************************************************* for additional information on how to ensure a safe job search online and details on how to report a scam.

If you feel that you have been a victim of Fraud, we recommend that you file a report with the *** online through the Internet ********************** (IC3) *******************.

Unfortunately, if you applied off of the Careerbuilder.com site or through an external application your information is accessible to those employers, if your profile was set to public upon registering (this means your Resume was public in the Resume Database)employers may also have viewed your information. We are unable to delete those records on the employer's systems. I have been getting constant spam emails from recruiters claiming to be sent from Careerbuilder. I have attempted to remove my information from the site, and submitted an account deletion request, all to no avail. My request for account deletion was ignored and never followed up on. (Having to request your account deleted in the first place is very suspicious and a bad business practice.) I would like my email and account permanently removed from any and all Careerbuilder records, so they do not continue to sell my information. My email is becoming unusable.

      Good morning ********,

I am truly sorry to hear about your experience! I have had a look in our system, and I can see that indeed a profile under your email address ******************** was active previously but this was fully removed upon your request. You will have received communication from our 3rd party vendor OneTrust on 04/17/2023 advising you of the removal of your account. I can confirm that your account is removed from our system and no employer is able to access your resume via our database this will also have unsubscribed you from any direct CareerBuilder emails.

Unfortunately, if you have applied on another platform linked from CareerBuilder or your information has been retrieved by an employer and saved locally while your profile was active, we are not able to delete that information from their systems. You will need to contact them directly with your request to be removed from their systems and to stop contacting you.

      Kindest regards,

I do NOT pay for services through CareerBuilder.com, but I did set up an account and submitted my resume on 7/28/2019. Following my creation of an account with **********************, I have received many spam/phishing emails that would be automatically sent to "Junk" in my mailbox. From the many emails I have got, I have read a few, they stated that I have applied for a job with their company and they were reaching out to me, not paying attention to where they stated they have received my contact information from. The reason I had initially signed up with CareerBuilder.com was to search for a legitimate job and at the time it was recommended as a safe source to do so.My complaint stems from today. While checking my email, I realized I received a phishing email that states "Our Company is getting back to you concerning request on a Career Builder." I know for a fact that I have not logged onto CareerBuilder in months, possibly even years. Anyways, I am telling you about this problem due to the fact that I do not recall letting Career Builder to give out my information to employers to directly contact me, or worse giving my information to phishers. I tried going online to change "Contact Preferences" but the page conveniently cannot be found. I have fallen for phishing employment scams before and just wish that CareerBuilder was not selling my information to people who are wanting to scam me. If I have anymore emails, I probably will, how do I send them to you to add to my complaint?

      Hi ******,

I am truly sorry to hear about your experience, but I want to assure you we do verify each company who utilizes our products and there has been no information stolen or sold without your consent.

I have had a look in our system, and I can see that there is a deletion request outstanding with our 3rd party vendor OneTrust to remove your details which you submitted on 4/18/2023. Once this is completed you will receive communication from OneTrust advising you of the removal of your account.

Unfortunately, if you have applied on another platform linked from CareerBuilder or your information has been retrieved by an employer and saved locally while your profile was active, we are not able to delete that information from their systems. I am rejecting this response because:

Due to your website stating that my account linked to my email account ********************** had not had a job application history, I believe careerbuilder.com is responsible for my email account information entering the hands of someone who had malicious intent.

I understand that you cannot do anything once it reaches the hands of the 'employers' but how do I know who's seen my information? There is no way for me to access that information so if you provide it to me I will gladly contact them myself

      Hi ******,

      Thank you for your feedback.

If you have had an active account with an active resume you would not have to apply to jobs for recruiters to be able to access and download your resume and contact details.

Unfortunately an account deletion is final and no further information can be accessed that was previously tied to your user. If you would've requested for company information to be provided upon your deletion request (before this was pulled through) we would've been able to provide this information, but I'm afraid that this is now no longer possible due to your user having been fully deleted.

The best advise I can offer is to tell every recruiter who is contacting you to remove your details from their system.

      Kindest Regards,

      Your CareerBuilder team

So we spoke with CareerBuilder sales reps ********* and ******** for a few weeks before actually contracting with them in October of 2022. We were told before signing our contract it was a 12 month contract we could cancel anytime, That we would be on several different sites attracting 3k applicants a week. We were told this site would almost eliminate our recruiting efforts. Instead we spent time funneling candidates to get about ***** a week which comes to ***** a month which is no way near **** candidates were promised. Ads did not gather any amount of attention as other sites. I cant find us on ****** jobs and other such promised website that our ads were supposed to be published on. The account wasn't cancelled at anytime. We were requested in writing on the website as well as over the phone with different account manager and supervisor. Currently we have an email saying that the account would be closed April 1st but April same as December we have received an email going back on the promise to cancel the account. No one calls back or emails. We need CB to stop billing us, cancel our account and give us a letter of cancellation immediately! This has been a nightmare and we want it to end!

I applied to a job through Career Builder which required me to make an account through the site. Once I had made an account within 24 hours I started getting phone calls, emails, and text messages about job opportunities that just sound scammy. Almost all of these calls, texts and emails started with we saw your account on Career Builder which is why were reaching out to you today. I tried changing my preferences on the website that Im not looking for a job and dont want to be contacted but nothing changed. Then I tried deleting my account and pulling my information off the site only to never get a response from Career Builder about deleting my account and was not able to remove my information from the site.

I have been spammed with job offers I do not want. These jobs claim that they found my information on CareerBuilder. Heres the problem: I never signed up for CareerBuilder, at least not with the address where I get these emails. So either: 1. Somebody fraudulently signed up for an account using my name, number, and email address, and you did not verify ownership of the address, or 2. CareerBuilder acquired my personal information via dishonest means. I would like to get some help sorting out what happened here.

I have had a look in our system, and I can confirm that there is no account active on ********************** under the email address *********************** that you provided. I tried to look further but can confirm we do not have an account under your email, or name. Is there any other email this couldve been registered under?

If you have any further information from perhaps the companies that have been in contact with you, I can look further into how you are being contacted. From what it looks like right now, your details are not on our system. At times it also happens that a company may represent themselves as a customer of ********************** while they are in no way affiliated. They do this because we have millions of users and attempt to use the brand to legitimize their contacts.

I was applying for a job on Career builders website. I was looking for a data clerk position to make a living wage at home and to have more time with my pets and cleaning my apartment. I was contacted by an employer who was impersonating the *** of *********************** He tricked me into a phishing scam that has left financially responsible with ****, as they refuse to assist me with this stressful, horrible situation. I've already contacted career builders about the fraudulent employer, however I wouldnt be in debt if they had better security measures against these scammers.
