Discover is the absolute worst bank Ive ever experienced. Since the very moment my boyfriend and I opened an account its been nothing but inconvenience after inconvenience. Recently, we made a purchase that we did not receive services for and requested to dispute the charge and refund us and they refused. The merchant wouldnt refund , ******* has an extensive process to request a refund and our bank couldnt even have our back. Its only $30 and they are acting like were asking for millions of dollars bank. Ive never been told by any bank that we were s*** out of luck and wasted our money on a purchase that we never even got to use. Im very frustrated and immediately need them to refund our $30. I have been with multiple banks and had no probably getting my money back when I didnt receive services for something I purchased .

My ******* planned an after Christmas family vacation for this coming Dec. 26, 2024 -Jan. 3, 2025. We booked a 3BR HOME. Using my Discover Credit Card on July 20, 2024, I paid a $822 service fee. On July 22, 2024, using my Credit Card again, I paid a retainer fee of $3,172.92 to a *********** Agent. We never received notification that the booking request was accepted, and according to the reservation summary I received, it states that once a booking request is accepted contact information would be provided to both me and the owner so that final payment arrangements can be made with the owner while confirming any other elements to the booking, together. We received NO contact information, and we had other elements to confirm. We did everything in our power to reach out to any Rental Director at either properties. We exhausted every telephone number possible, in more ways than one with no success of connection whatsoever. This was very alarming to us! We believed these were the markings of a scam!! I immediately called Discover on August 3, 2024, exactly 12 days later after the transaction of the retainer fee of $3,172.92, stating my case, and they suggested I file a dispute and a temporary credit of $822 and $3,172.92 would be made to my credit card while they investigate the charges. A permanent credit of the service fee of $822 was credited in my favor, because an invoice was not presented to them from the Rental Property. The invoice of the retainer fee of $3,172.92, which was to a *********** Agent, was submitted to Discover by the Rental Property. While discussing my dispute with Discover, using another cell phone, so that Discover could hear that the calls were indeed non working numbers! I have been disputing this since Aug. 3, 2024. My booking was canceled on Aug. 5, 2024. I still have yet to resolve this situation.

Signed up for their direct deposit under the promise that I'd get better customer service and the same early pay that I'd been receiving with Cash App and Chime. Neither ONE of those are true. As I'm writing this, I was supposed to have received my SSI check today. Instead, after THREE HOURS on the phone with Social Security and an hour on the phone with Discover, I found out that they DID receive my check but are holding it until the first. DESPITE THE PROMISE OF EARLY PAY, THEY CLAIM THAT SSI PAYMENTS ARE NOT ELIGIBLE WHEN THERE'S NO MENTION OF SUCH ON THEIR WEBSITE AND THAT THIS WAS NEVER A PROBLEM WITH CHIME OR CASH APP. Even a paper check takes TEN DAYS to cash despite their OWN FAQ stating that it would be cleared that day. AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!!!!!!!

After years with them with my **** *** they screwed me over this year when I tried to add funds when my CD matured ....They sent me a letter saying everything went through....then I called a few days later when it hadn't been deducted from my bank...they said don't worry...takes a couple days Several more days went by and my bank still didn't show a deduction ...so I called Discover again to he told Oh there was an issue with the other bank and it didn't go through...this was now the last day of the ***** period so could do nothing about it....had they called me or told me there was an issue I could have done the funds transfer.....I sent the paperwork in on time and I called them twice....its a year term....so next year I will close the account and take my money to a bank who cares more about their customers than ********************** does. Shame on them

I've banked with Discover Bank for several years and have always been happy with them. That's no longer true since they've been purchased by Capitol One.Last week Discover issued a statement re a change in availability of funds when deposited by check. They said they'd make $250 available immediately, with the rest of the deposit amount available in a few days, supposedly 2 or 3 ******* far, THEY ARE NOT HONORING THEIR OWN STATED POLICY. I deposit multiple small checks at certain times of the year. They have NEVER made the stated $250 available immediately, instead they're holding the entire check. Right now I have a $274.51 check I deposited yesterday that's still entirely on hold, and the information showing online says it'll be available on 10/28 - holding the entire check for 4 days.Granted it's a small amount, but any dishonesty or disingenuous behavior PARTICULARLY BY A BANK RE MY MONEY is a red flag. I'd advise all Discover customers to be very careful when checking your account online to be sure you'll have enough funds in your checking (or other?) accounts to prevent them from making money on overdraft fees when you've made deposits they're not making available to you.

I wish I would have read all these reviews and check Reddit before applying. I have a Discover card (that's paid off) and received an invitation in the mail to apply for a home equity loan. I had already started with my local bank but decided to apply with Discover instead because of the low closing costs. Worst mistake ever!! The ONLY think I can say that has been positive about the experience is the people you talk to on the phone are very polite. That being said, they are horrible at their job. On top of that, they request everything so your constantly scrambling to provide paperwork, but then they deny you for paperwork that they never requested, and you can have easily turned in. I have a feeling the employees don't know or work with underwriters directly and the communication is just horrible. If the employee doesn't provide something the underwriter needs, the underwriter just denies the claim. Instead of being able to just provide that paperwork to keep the process moving, you have to start all over again and provide EVERY single thing just to turn in one piece of work. THE WORST HOME EQUITY LOAN COMPANY EVER, STAY AWAY!!!

I paid off my balance on Discover and they refused to issue me a new card (my former card had expired). No reason given on their side.
When I called, I was transferred to 5 different reps in 3 different time/countries with no help.

If I could go triple negative zero stars I would. Discover took additional principle payments from my account without my permission, reimbursed me when I called them out on it and then they omitted one of my regular monthly payments after the fact creating a hole in my payments. They are shady and there's no one to help even after I've sent in proof of all payments! This is criminal and I don't know how they get away with this. They've impacted my credit terribly and so I'm looking to pursue legal action against them. Stay away from all things Discover. These banks are shady!
