My Wife and I wanted to get a home equity loan. We both have credit scores in the 800's. We both work and have good incomes. We submitted all of our paperwork over a three-week period. We were told an appraisal was needed on our home. We fully expected that. They sent a real estate agent to our home to take photos ONLY; no appraisal. The realtor loved our home and was highly complimentary of the work we had done previously. Discover had someone "appraise" our home from their desk by looking at the County Tax legal description and appraised value. Anyone that knows anything about County Tax appraisals knows it is not comparable to actual Market values of your home (at least not in *****). This "appraiser" used comps nowhere close to our home. The home next door to us just sold in June for $415,000 (same number of bedrooms and bathrooms, 100' larger). Our home was valued at $252,000 (we have more land, patios, out-buildings, etc.) which was the value given by the *****************. We asked the Discover *** to send out an actual appraiser and they would see that the value of our home is much more. They refused, saying "we don't do that. We go by the County Tax record only". We offered to pay for an Appraiser (in normal cases, we would have anyway). They still refused and said they would ONLY honor the County Tax evaluation and legal description. So, after we spent hours submitting documents to them, this ended our pursuit of a loan with Discover. We have NEVER experienced any type of home loan, home equity loan, or 2nd mortgage loan in our 46+ year marriage without an ACTUAL Appraiser evaluating the property (IN PERSON) for the actual market value! We were seeking a $50,000 loan. We only owe $188,000 on our home. The market value of our home is in the high $400,000-low $500,000's BUT we can't get Discover to send out an actual Appraiser. We will NEVER attempt to do ANY business with Discover again!

Zero Stars Discover Will *** Stand Behind You If you have a dispute over a product you purchased with your Discover card, beware. While you can file a dispute, they wont tell you that you can only win if the merchant doesnt respond. Discover seems more interested in protecting the merchant than the customer. We had a dispute with a company that provided a defective product. Despite having proof that the company agreed to refund us including a signed document from the ownerDiscover refused it, claiming they couldn't consider it because it was a legal document, and "they're not lawyers." This was ridiculous since the document was meant as proof, not for legal judgment. It didnt matter to Discover that the product was damaged or that the refund was agreed upon; they simply sided with the merchant.Their dispute process exists, but it seems designed to shield businesses, not consumers. Discover is a predatory company, and with so many credit cards out there, consider this a warning. Steer clear.

Careful with automatic payment. I havd automatic payment turned on, I decided to go in the app and decided to pay in full my statement which it allowed me to do so. A couple of days later I checked my bank account and not only was that amount I paid went through but it also processed automatic payment for the monthly balance. So it doubled up my payment and when I looked on discover I had a big credit. I called and talked with first representative and she said, yes, thats in our end we are sorry, let me get you over to someone to reverse the payment. I mentioned by there mistake I was charged $25 because I only put enough in my checking account to pay for my bill and asked if they would be able to help me with it, she said oh yes. I was transferred and talked with a lady from salt lake and she informed me it was because the payment I placed was the same time as the automatic payment and thats why it doubled up. I was confused as how it would allow me to pay what was already in process. She went on to tell me the automatic payment had credit on it from where I returned an item. Which I told her hold on right there. I returned that item in the evening, I put my payment in in the morning, so how would the automatic payment be processed after I already had mine in process? She couldnt answer that question. I asked her about my overdraft and she said no its not our fault so we wouldnt be able to help you with that. Needless to say, after this next payment Ill be canceling my card and will tell friends and family to do the same. Bad business practice and poor customer service has lost me as a customer.

ANOTHER outfit that *** wants your money. Don't expect that they will DO THEIR JOBS! Disputed a charge and with very little investigation they sided with the crooked merchant. Too lazy to do anything right. Too stubborn to admit they were WRONG. MAYBE **** or ********** is better?

Not even worth one star. Had over $14,000 taken from me through ACH fraud on a High yield Savings. First time it happened June 2024 they refunded the money. Due to customer service we decided to stay and keep our money with them. 2 months later over $10,000 was taken again and they gave no communication for weeks. I called to follow up and learned the dispute was closed and deemed as a legit transaction. How would the first time be fraud but the second time not be? Operator was no help at all - They are requesting documentation proving we have no affiliation with the *********** (which is fraud)- I called and confirmed no accounts/affiliation but how is a company you have no affiliation with supposed to give you proof of no affiliation? Filed a claim with the *** and local PD I will NEVER trust Discover and will be closing both my banking and credit accounts with them. I am also warning all friends and family. Shame on you Discover!!

They closed my account without any notification, I only found out when I called to ask my card hasn't been working for the past few days...when I called the customer service none of the agents could give me any information on why my account was closed (I've made every payment on time in full and lived at the same address for over a year??) and stated that I should appeal by WRITING to the Company. I asked how I'm supposed to appeal when I haven't been notified on why my account was closed?? They refused to let me speak to any representative on what the issue was regarding and disconnected the call. As of now, I even have a $ credit to my account because I overpaid and my balance is below zero.
