I am writing to formally dispute a charge made to my account by ********************** ***** (HomeAdvisor) in the amount of $1,820.00 (initial fee of $350 + $1,470 cancellation fee).On April 30th, our business enrolled in Angi ***** service under the impression that we would receive ***** qualified, verified leads per month to help grow our handyman company. In reality, over a two-week period we received 13 leadsnone of which resulted in any closed or even promising business. Worse, several leads turned out to be clear scams, which wasted our time, labor, and resources. We were also told by Angi that we would have a choice in our leads, that responding to a lead would count as acceptance of the lead. However, Angi auto-replied to all the sham leads sent to us, so we had no choice of leads, they were chosen for us. Any leads that actually looked legitimate and promising, Angi was offering for an additional charge per lead. Two weeks into our service we were informed that our lead cap for the month had already been met and we would receive no further leads, even though not one single lead was productive, legitimate, or chosen by us .Given the utter lack of value received, we promptly contacted Angi on May 16th to terminate our service and requested a refund. We were denied a refund of our initial $350 and were instead charged a staggering $1,470 cancellation fee.Importantly, we never signed an agreement. I was called by Angi unexpectedly, while on a job siteoutside of the agreed to and scheduled call timeand was verbally presented with terms and, under distraction, gave verbal consent. This verbal agreement under duress should not be considered binding, especially given the misrepresentation and lack of delivery from the service. We believe this constitutes deceptive business practices. We are requesting a full refund of $1,820 and consider this matter urgent.Business Response

In November of 2024, I purchased an armoire from the company, *******, online. On the invoice, I was asked if I wanted to purchase some help to put it together. I checked the box that said yes I did and was charged $353. I purchased the armoire around Christmas time. Anyway, the armoire arrived and I was told when the handyman from Angi would be arriving. However, the armoire arrived in 2 separate deliveries so I had to reschedule the man from Angi. The man from Angi never Arrived so I ended up cancelling him. I then spoke with someone from ******* and they said I could get a refund (the $353) but I would have to contact Angi regarding a refund. I did and Angi said I would have to send them a copy of the invoice with Angis fee on it. I sent it to them a number of times over the past 4 or 5 months. But I never heard from them. I finally sent the invoice with a letter to the corporate offices of ANGI- I sent it by **** mail because I wasnt having any luck with email. And, I still havent heard anything from them. I believe that Angi owes me $353.Business Response

As a manager of the roofing company I work for, I signed up for Angi's list for ***lacing roofs, gutters and siding. I signed up for residential work and somehow they added commercial and omitted residential. I received only gutter ***lacement leads for the money I was spending each month that was suppose to generate roofing, gutter and siding leads. I complained for two months and each *** would tell me they would call me back to find out why no roofing quotes. The third month I finally found out why and the *** said they would correct it and call me back. They did not. When I finally canceled. I was charged a "early cancelation fee" of $875. They gave me no recourse and no refund on the money I gave them and I got absolutely no roofing quotes. I basically gave them money for nothing at all and their answer was "you signed a contract and you are leaving early.Business Response

[First, even though I canceled I have had no confirmation from Angi's that I have been canceled as of June 4th. I continue to get emails from Angi's and leads which confirms that the company is using our company to send to people who think they are going to get a response. Angi's did not work with us responsibly because we received zero leads for roofing or siding, only minor gutter repairs. The fact that Angi's is still giving our company name out to users only shows that this company does not care about the customers or the contractors; only the money they can generate by false contracts and tricks to get people to sign up. We canceled on June 4th, 2025. I should be receiving some kind of written confirmation of that fact and the customers should not be given our emails as we will only respond that we are no longer with Angi's. I highly recommend that any contractor thinking about signing a year long contract with Angi to keep thinking and read the fine print for changes made from the verbal agreement.]

I have contacted Angi's team multiple times since June 4th. Someone named ***** even called me to see if there was a reconciliation that could be made but as I told the representative on June 4th on the last day I was able to cancel, I made my decision based on the ineptness of the representatives of Angi to find out why we were not getting any siding or roofing leads for 4 months. After multiple representatives stated they would call back after investigating, nothing was done. We paid for zero roofing and siding leads and only received a few crumbs of gutter leads. Angi is a scam in my book. Just the fact that I called and canceled and they are still forcing us to pay an early termination fee AND the month of June when I clearly canceled shows that this company is a bully and a scam. They are pariahs and tricksters. I should have researched more when doing any sort of business with them. I canceled June 4th and will pay the early termination fee but I will not pay another month for being tricked into a contract that I did not receive what I was entitled to under the contract!Customer Answer

On April ******* I was contacted by ANGI, (Lead provider). Dear BBB AGENT,
I want to sincerely thank you and the BBB for stepping in and assisting with my recent issue involving "ANGI". Your involvement made a significant difference in facilitating communication and helping move the matter toward a resolution.
I truly appreciate the support and professionalism throughout the process. However, after Fri, Jun13, 2025 at: 4:04 pm email (see attachment) they never reply back with a final resolution to close the matter. Also, that doesn't stop them from advancing multiple attempts to charge my **************** card after cancellation.I believe the threat of sending me to collection after the complaint have been made is still conspicuous.
Your commitment to consumer advocacy is commendable, and Im grateful for the help provided.
Please let me know if theres anything further required from my end.
Warm regards,Maxo

I signed up to Angi Pro for leads for my painting business. It's a full year contract and they promise at least 7 real leads a month that I have to win on my own merit. I'm paying $315 every 28 days with a cancelation fee of %35 of the remaining balance for the year. The issue is that Angi is giving out bogus leads and counting them as legitimate. They don't do their due diligence of verifying the accounts that register with them supposedly seeking services. The very first lead I got was riddled with inaccuracies and red flags. The name, address and email all seemed fake. When I reached out to the supposed customer, they gave me a different name and said they were from another state and wanted their home painted before they moved in or even had the keys. They also asked for my personal information in order to pay me. I also got text messages from random numbers saying their info had been used on Angi without their consent and they were not looking for painting contractors and to please stop calling and messaging them. Days later I got another lead that seemed more reliable, and after being told to communicate via email I received a word for word copy of the first lead I had. It seems like they're just bots sending out fraudulent work request in order to fill their lead quota per their contract. I called Angi and brought all this up to them and they just waved it off as something that doesn't happen often and wouldn't happen again. I tried to cancel my contract because they clearly can't keep up their side of the contract and are acting in bad fate just baiting contractors into paying their cancelation fee without providing any actual service. At this point I'm just seeking a resolution by canceling my contract without their ridiculous cancelation fee and all my information being deleted from their app.Customer Answer

This is the email I said was a word for word copy of my first lead that looked fraudulent. From a supposedly different client with different name and email. It's the same job description. It even mentions the wife wanting a color change even though I am supposedly talking to said wife (*******) that the supposed husband told me to email. It all just seems like a script they send out indiscriminately to any contractor that is signed up with Angi.Business Response

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID ********, and have determined the response would not resolve my complaint. For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.
[Provide details of why you are not satisfied with this resolution.]ANGI failed to take responsibility on their part for the fraudulent leads. Instead, they insisted it was my own fault for casting "too wide a net" on leads. Never did they acknowledge that they failed to either properly filter or vet potential leads to verify their authenticity. This was never an issue on how profitable or attainable a lead was, but rather, on how legitimate the leads were. ANGI has failed to not only take any sort of responsibility, instead completely side stepping any effort to better the situation. They only offer lip service with no actual substance or merit for the services they claim to offer. The contract I signed was based on them, not me, verifying actual leads, and sending them my way. They failed to do this by not doing the bare minimum of effort and verifying that the leads came from actual people and not bots and/or scammers. Verifying if leads are real or not is the bare minimum and one would think it should be the responsibility of a business that claims to sell legitimate leads that aim to turn a profit for the customer.

Angi sent an assembler who was under the influence of either crack or meth to my home. The man by the name of **** spent 4.5 hours building a grill. He did not finish the job and left. He told me he would return the next day and did not. I have spent many days on the phone with Angi trying to get a refund for the job that was incomplete. They offered me partial refund. So, I am escalating the matter. The guy was so incompetent that I had to unassembled the grill to reassemble it myself. Took me 2 hours to do the job that I paid someone to do. Angi does not vet their employees. How dare they send a junky to my home?Business Response

I just recently cancelled my Angi leads business out of frustration. I had many issues with this platform in the past. A few months ago I had tried to cancel due to these issues but was given free credit as an incentive to stay. I had never actually gotten any leads during this time and have not used the platform for jobs since this time. I had apparently missed an email warning me on May 15th of my account renewing, which I had missed due to these high volume of emails I receive from this company. Come May 15th, I was charged $307.84. Beyond my anger that I did not want to be charged, nor renew my account, the email stated I would be charged only $287. I called customer service about this and, to no surprise, I was again just offered free credit. There was no accountability and I was again incentivized to stay. It was at this time when I cancelled my membership. Despite my multiple calls, there has been no refund or help from this company. I think this is extremely unfair considering I have not used the benefits of Angi Leads in many months.Business Response
