GEHA is now Automatically enrolling its customers in a ******** D plan. The only notice is you receive a fake looking card in the mail looks like a scam . No explanation. When you call, (If you can ever get through ) nobody has any information. There are various thoughts as to whether you can opt out and return to your basic prescription GEHA plan, however Im reading now that if you are retired, you cannot. I will now have to pay extra $30 a month out of my social security check. Apparently, its legal to automatically enroll someone without their consent into ******** D!!!

Their customer service is a total waste of time! Plan to spend 30 minutes or more chatting, and still not have your issues resolved.

This business is corrupt! They send out a 3-month prescription and then, one month later, send out another 3-month prescription and charge you again. Then, another month later, send out another 3-month subscription. My refrigerator is full of insulin and Ozempic, which I don't need. When I called and complained, they told me that if the "plan [insurance company] allows it, then they are free to send additional medication even if it is not time for a refill." That is just wrong!!

I've had a claim processed as out of network, paying zero, for an in-network doctor. I appealed the claim to have it denied. When I told the GEHA customer service person that their website showed as in network, she told me that just because the website shows a provider in network doesn't mean that they are in network. How is this anything but fraud? Four months since the visit and I keep getting statements from the doctor and making multiple calls to GEHA to resolve. Currently they say they have no access to the claim and appeal because they are transferring from one system to another. There always seems to be an ********* my opinion, GEHA=SCAM.

I have had 12 cervical and lumbar fusion surgeries. All due to degenerative disc disease. I presently have my C8 nerve( this is a nerve between disc C7 and T1) pinched, inflamed and painful, The nerve pain radiates under my scapula to the right shoulder and the back of the right arm to my elbow. The back of the right arm to my little finger is extremely numb. I’m in pain and get little sleep. Instead of being allowed to see my Neurosurgeon immediately as always, I had to make an appointment with my PCP who had to order a complete spinal CT Myelogram test-send to my Neurosurgeon before I could be seen even though my last CT Myelogram was 15 months ago. My PCP then had to make a referral to my pain doctor to see me. This took 6 weeks to get in. I was seen this past Friday. My pain doctor was incensed and embarrassed that UHC has put so many roadblocks in my/his way. I’m now waiting for UHC to approve my epidural. Once approved I can schedule my epidural-that will again be several weeks out. My pain doctor and Neuro both commented the epidural should have been done at least 2 months ago in order to keep the nerve from dying. The epidural doers nothing but block the nerve pain. Since the epidural is a band-aid for pain and not designed to save anything, the nerve will die if not dead due to the unrelieved compression. Surgery is that cure. After the UHC roadblock to care game, it may be to late. I was a medical school administrator for 25 years.this wait is common UHC protocol. Tire out the patient. My attorney is going to wear UHCs ass out but we haven’t filed. UHC continues to gift us new ammunition. More to come.. sorry for my writing errors. I hurt and am tired.

Lots of hurdles for new customers to get expensive meds they can't even fill through mail order due to being out of stock. They are requiring prior authorization for something I've been taking for years.

December 3, 2024- I get my grandfather set up with a solid plan through GEHA that covers all of his needs.
December 6, 2024- United Healthcare calls him and even though he already has insurance, convinces him to sign up for a plan where none of his doctors are in network.
December 10, 2024- I find out about this and call United Healthcare to reverse it. I'm told that his GEHA plan overrode the UHC plan and therefore his UHC plan is pending cancelation.
December 17, 2024- United Healthcare sends him a new insurance card.
December 24, 2024- I again call UHC. They first try to sell us yet another plan, but then again say that the plan he signed up for is pending cancelation due to the presence of the GEHA plan. I ask for proof and then they backtrack and say that actually I need to fill out a form to cancel the UHC plan. So I fill out that form and submit it.
December 28, 2024- We get a letter in the mail that the GEHA plan got canceled when he signed up for UHC.
December 29, 2024- I am informed there is no possibility of getting back the GEHA plan set up on December 3 back because we’re now out of open enrollment. I can set him up with a Medicare Advantage plan but that would not take action until February leaving him with just Medicare and a 20% coinsurance on everything for all of January.
I work in healthcare. I know how to navigate these systems. And I still can't get him out of this mess. This is a reminder for all of you with elderly loved ones with cognitive impairment to get powers of attorney set up and have any insurance related calls redirected to you. My grandfather's cognitive impairment is obvious when talking to him on the phone, but United Healthcare didn't care and signed him up for a terrible plan anyway. Protect your loved ones. Nobody else will.

This is my second complaint with the BBB regarding this horrible company. I have had to constantly chase down information that they claim is missing even though my doctor's office has confirmed on multiple occasions that they have responded to the questions from Optum Rx in a timely manner through their methods provided. In this latest issue, I am now being charged over $3,000 to request a prescription that should have been filled at less than $300 in early December because they failed to do anything with the response from my doctor's office on 12/23, and again on 12/30. This company should not be allowed to continue to operate at such a poor level of customer service with very little response or effort from their team. I will also be starting a complaint group within my employer to insist they move to another Rx company moving forward.
