1 starMy son is new to the workforce having graduated recently. He went to H&R block in Southaven, MS to do his first taxes. Their website shows an average of $99 for filing taxes. Their website guarantees that there will be no surprises and give you the price up front. When he called me later, they had charged him over $600 for a simple 1099 filing, with a couple hundred bucks in crypto.... I hit the roof to see them having done this... they knew they had a new young person... if they had been up front he said he would have walked out and just did it for free... but they waited until the work was done (about 30 minutes) then hit him with that price. We've filed a complaint with the IRS but do NOT go to this place - seems predatory to me, then they refused to make this right when we gave them a chance to resolve the issue.Review fromHailey L

1 starI made an appointment to do my taxes in person since I had never dealt with a 1099 before. I was a 1099 contract employee for five months—that’s it. I had already calculated all my deductions before going in. When I arrived, Jaime K**** told me I had to manually add up my rent, WiFi, and utilities write-offs from my spreadsheet because she "doesn’t do bookkeeping." While I was doing this, she sat there eating a candy bar and chatting with her coworker, showing them all the chocolate in her purse. Once I finished, she simply entered the numbers into their respective boxes and charged me $565. For that price, you’d think she could have done a little bookkeeping. Instead, I did all the work while she typed it in and asked me questions that were already answered in my deduction spreadsheet. On top of that, she had to Google a question about depreciation—something a CPA should already know. I expected to be charged a maximum of $200 since I did most of the work myself. $565 made me want to cry—especially as a 23-year-old who only made $17,000 last year. And, of course, the total just so happened to be a little more than my federal return, meaning I had to pay out of pocket. Convenient, right? Afterward, I called another H&R Block location, and they explained that fees start at $150 and that the associate is supposed to tell me the cost before starting. That did not happen. I wasn’t told the price until the VERY END. I was taken advantage of—plain and simple.Review fromEmiling S

1 starThe HR adviser could not answer my question so they put me on hold to "research." I was on hold for over 2 hours (2 hr and 20 min) without the agent checking back. I guess if you are paid to do nothing, you can win the game of out waiting your customer. VERY DISAPPOINTED. I have been using HR Block for over 10 years. This is the first time that technical support's "solution" is to put you on hold until you just accept HR Block will NOT be there for you.Review fromRobin L

1 starH and r block on north dixie elizabethtown ky is absolutely the worst place to do your taxes at. We were told that it would cost around 528 dollars to do our taxes. It wound up costing over 1025 dollars. The lady didn't do a very good job on our taxes at all.Review fromTracy W

1 starI went to these guys for many years. I ended up going to another tax person in H&R Block and we discovered that the previous tax person for four years filed incorrectly several years of mistakes. They waived refiling correction charges. I decided to stay with them with the exception of they give me $100 discount for 2024 taxes. They told me it expired in March and my appointment was in April. They did not tell me the hundred dollar credit was expiring. The office manager was very argumentative and very unpleasant. She would not budge. They screwed up many years of my taxes with no empathy . Please never ever to go to H&R .Review fromDiana W

1 starWe have been going to H&R Block for years. They made a mistake on our taxes for 2023 and we are having to pay it. It was their mistake. Peace of mind is a waste of time. This will be the last year we use them. Terrible company.Review fromGenois B

1 starThis year, HR block informed me my taxes had been filed by imposter. I learned by searching internet that HR block was being litigated due to data breach August 2024. I did not receive any information from HR prior to my visit to file 2024 taxes. I just learned that HR block is not BBB accredited.Review fromMichelle C

1 starBack in 2022 I went to the H & R black office in Apopka FL. to have my taxes done. At the time I owed money(22000) to the irs so we set up a payment plan. The irs accepted my return. I sent money to the irs and in July of 2022 I called the IRS to get the balance I owed. They informed me that they didn’t show i filed. It took them quite a while to figure out that the Apopka location used someone else ss#. So had to have my taxes redone for 2022. In that return I only had to pay 5500 to the irs. Paid them and thought I was all done with the mess your company created. Fast forward to 2025. I received this letter from the IRS stating that I owed them 16000 and it needed to be returned by the March 13th . So I took my return back to the Tavares office to the person who messed them up. I had an appointment on march 1st but he was running behind so he said he would look at them and get back to me. He called stated I’m sorry but I messed them up and you do owe 16000. Instead of fixing it and not really wanting your company to mess with them I hired a CPA to fix them. They fixed them for me but didn’t refile. They told me I needed to back to your company to fix. So since the Apopka location is closer to me than the Tavares office I went there. When I arrived at that location I explained my situation and scheduled an appointment to have them fix. I left my messed-up returns with them. The receptionist called and informed me that I would need to go back to the Tavares to have them fix and cancel my appointment. I called the Tavares office to schedule an appointment and the soonest they could get me in is on March 26th. Meanwhile the letter isn’t returned due to not knowing what I need to do with it since the tax person didn’t tell me. March 14th I went to pick up my returns for the Apopka office and they couldn’t find them. The manager didn’t seem to concern that they weren’t able to find them and no one else in that office cared.Review fromMichael K

1 starI would not recommend this product. I have spent hours on the phone with product support. I cannot efile my Federal return because of an incorrect accuracy check. HRBlock admits to the problem. I started to work with them starting 3/2/25 and it is now 3/18/25. The problem is on Form 5695 Residential Energy Credit. Form 5695 Instructions “Line 17e. You cannot claim the credit for expenses related to the construction of a new home. If you are claiming the credit only for expenses for qualified improvements to an existing home or for an addition or renovation to an existing home, check the “No” box. If the qualified improvements for which you are seeking to claim the credit are related to the construction of a new home, check the “Yes” box. If you check the “Yes” box, skip lines 18a through 20b.” My home an existing home so I checked no. On form 5695 HR Block current accuracy check says “You must check line 17e as Yes when you have zero amounts on line(s) 18b or 19e or 20b.” HR Block accuracy check should be If you check line 17e as Yes box 18b and 19e and 20b need to be zero. If you check line 17e as No box 18b and 19e and 20b can be any number or zero. On March 11 they said they fixed it but they did not when I downloaded a new update. I cannot efile my Federal return because of a faulty Accuracy check on Form 5695 in the HR Block Deluxe + State for Windows PC Program last updated on 3/12/25 They told me on 3/17 that they will not fix problem.
