We have been long-time Waste Industries/Waste Management customers here in ****** *******. The service was not always on time, but has been generally reputable and consistent. We added recycling services to our quarterly package years ago and continued to use the company because the recycling pick-up was really helpful (at an additional expense).
GFL took over service and pick ups at some point in the past 6-12 months (we never got any official notification about the merger?) and the service and communication really has taken a huge downturn. Skipped service has become a repeat issue, especially for the recycling services, which were offered every other week. In the past 2 months, we had only had recycling picked up once.
After 3+ phone calls (on hold for 30+ mins, only to have the call disconnected, never speaking to any CSR) & an email to the company, my husband finally reached someone. She said she would pass along our concerns to the local provider, provided an update that recycling service had been discontinued (we were NEVER notified about this - already paid for the service this quarter - and still have the recycling can, to which I have no clue what to do with!), and noted that our most recent week of no-track-pick-up last week was the result of a broken down garbage truck. When we finally heard resolution about what we were going to be refunded - $20. We pay $180 per quarter for trash and recycling pick-up.
We have requested discontinued service once this "credit" applied to our account runs out. The company's lack of communication to customers, lack of consistent and dependable service, and lacking ability to be reached during business hours or electronically has been nothing short of frustrating. Cost for service is also considerably higher than other local track pick-up services in general; we had been sticking it out for the convenience of recycling pick-up -- now for no purpose.
They are absolutely worth only 1 star.GFL Environmental

GFL invoiced us for an extra month, January 2023, one month after the invoice for the quarter. I am told the invoice is an error but we are required to pay it within 30 days or be charged interest. This was not the agreement. Billing was to be quarterly. The customer service people say there is nothing they can do. I could cancel the service, but would wait 10 weeks for refund. How can a company just demand advance payment at will?GFL Environmental

GFL Environmental purchased my existing trash bin removal company (C&C) back in the summer of 2022.
At that time, I had just paid 75 dollars to C&C company in ******** for the forthcoming 3 months service.
After the purchase GFL only picked up trash 1 time and refused to answer calls or pick up trash for the neighborhood. We all had to change companies but still have an existing trash can from ***. We're expecting refunds and removal of C&C trash cans.

I have been a GFL customer for a couple of years, recently they stopped my service without contacting me, and I have an online account. I found it unacceptable that they could not contact me after cancelling my service 3 weeks ago. I submitted requests to get my trash picked up, called dozens of times to just be on hold for hours on end. Finally today I got hold of a customer service rep and they told me my route has been cancelled. If I hadn't called I would never had know, I found this unprofessional and a poor way to treat customers as part of a billion dollar company.GFL Environmental

This company is absurdly bad. Cannot complete trash routes. Provide no real solutions to issues. Impossible to get on the phone with to report missed pickups. It is amazing they can remain in business.GFL Environmental

They suck!!!! Very rude, not willing to work with you when others on the same street use this company. I was told they could not back up once my trash was picked up because I live at end of a dead end road. That is a bunch of bull crap!!!! They were able to drop off a bin to start service and took the full bin away when they canceled my service. I don't understand.GFL Environmental

This company has taken customers trash containers and asks you to put your trash on the street for pickup stating there is a supply shortage even though the containers are included in the monthly bills you are paying. This company increases their fees every 3 months and refuses to give customers any type of credit for their inconvenience. This company has effected the lively hood of residential neighborhoods by having trash on the curbs and pickup is inconsistent. Customer Service has you on hold for 45 minutes or more and the website support does not contact you at all. This company should be out of business for failure to adhere to their contracts.GFL Environmental

They missed one pickup last year for the entire week, and let the garbage bins stay on the street for a week, without any explanation/apology/advanced notice.In the last few months, I made payment through my bank, as I have always been doing. But the payments went through, kept out of the bank (I don't know where) for two weeks, and returned to my bank. Then soon after I received a bill with 1.5% interest added to the original bill. I don't usually check my bank activities, so I didn't notice the returning of my payment. So what I do was simply paid the bill, using the account number printed on the bill, through my bank's *********** Then it was returned after two weeks-I still wonder what had happened during these two weeks. Did GFL use this money to make money somewhere? If the account number is incorrect, as what the customer service manager told me, would that transaction go through? This pay bill-return-pay bill again cycle has been going for at least 4 months. I didn't notice this as the house has been vacated for this period of time. Then two days ago I noticed that the garbage truck didn't pick the yard waste, and I called GFL. They said that they didn't receive my payment so they would not pick the yard waste. I explained the situation, sent in the snapshots of my bank statements, the payment I scheduled again for today which shows clearly the account number for the payment, and the photo of their recent bill. They simply ignored all these facts, insisting no payment no pick up. The customer service manager even suggested me to go to another company. After numerous trials I have to give up. The corporate customer service can only be reached through email, wecanhelp@gflenv, which is clearly a joke. Despite of the multiple email messages I sent to this email I never received a single reply. I would suggest that all the subdivisions/companies give it a second thought when choosing a garbage collectGFL Environmental
