Around 5th February, 2024 suddenly my M&T Mobile banking were not working with my face ID. I called customer service they told me my account is locked and they will not be able to help me; physically I've to go to a branch. On 23 rd February, 2024. I went to visit M&T bank, Penn station branch. After verifying ID, ATM card front desk informed me a SHE (can't tell me the name or designation of the person or reason) blocked my account, he sent a message to her. Once she will response then he can help. I waited for an hour and no response. Then again he repeated he can't do anything until mysterious SHE response him. I requested to talk to manager Mr. H***. He told me exact same thing about miss SHE blocked my account and can't discuss with me anything about it. Neither can unblock my account until mysterious SHE response them. I have to skip work and without any fault I was harassed almost three hours. Around 4.45 pm front desk called me and closed my account without giving any reason. In that time I have 827 credit score, have almost all prestigious credit card and other checking account with ***** & ****** Road. They told me I should receive a letter by mail reasoning why it was closed. I was glad because I got access to my money. In 1st week of March I received a letter stating M&T bank has full authority to close my account with or without reason. I believed the reason. but I wondered who authorized them to harass me and took my valuable time away and block my money. May be this was a Revenge from customer advocacy Leslie F******** (mysterious SHE). because previously I made a complain about a M&T Chelsea branch employee who acted like a Mafia and was acting wired because of my outfit; an orange jacket and BMW cap. reference (BBB complain # ********). I am a well decorated military veteran I was wondered where they are standing on? Instead of being thankful for addressing the corruption of Chelsea brunch they went after me. Very funny and very low decision.M&T Bank

Unwilling to step up and help a loyal customer of many years. Will be closing all business with them as of April 2024 after tax and pension checks get direct deposited. Already just closed my credit card with them. All over $100. Too bad.M&T Bank

No star I was approved for a loan for a car I went back to the bank to confirm that everything was ready and Mrs. Linn C******** told me that I only needed to call the bank when I found the car I called them two days later from the dealer and they told me that they are working on my case that they called me back, for me it has been the most humiliating thing that has happened to me I feel discriminated against and a lack of professionalism that they send me to look for the car and that when I call they tell me that they are working on the case When it was approved, I no longer want to deal with irresponsible people, the worst service, nor do they return your calls.M&T Bank

I used the conviniece of depositing a check through the ATM and understandably the check was held for 5 days to make sure it was not fraudulent but then the Security Dept, more specifically, Mark L******** has frozen my entire account for another 5 additional days, preventing my automatic withdrawals to pay my bills, preventing my paycheck from being automatically deposited and causing me unimaginable difficulties in a very financially stressful time and he WILL NOT RETUEN ANY PHONE CALLS UPDATING ME ON AN END IN SIGHT. I DEPOSITED THE CHECK SO I COULD PURCHASE A HOME AND UVE LOST OUT NOW WITH NO ACCESS TO MY $8,000.00 FOR MY DOWNPAYMENT. ITS UNACCEPTABLEM&T Bank

1 starI buy a money order for rent from my post office across the street from me or near my place of work, but the past 3 days I have gone, my card was declined upon check out. I called M&T 3 days in a row to beg them to remove the fraud blockage for these post offices. They assured me that I would be able to use my card there from now on. They lied. It was not lifted permanently, only for 2 hours, but the post office was closed by this time. After pummeling them with calls they finally admitted that their fraud department is subjugated to an algorithm that blocks transactions arbitrarily with no notice to the customer and even with their texting 2 step identification the card would still decline in public (in front of everyone in line) every time and they have no control over this. They let an algorithm or computer dictate where their customers can spend their own hard-earned money and there is no way to lift these restrictions. We need permission to use our own money. I spoke to customer service many times for many hours, begging and pleading for the autonomy to use my debit card wherever I want and they said this was not possible. The restrictions can't and won't be lifted. The customer service staff kept lying about the blocks being lifted day after day and would transfer me to the fraud department to speak to a manager only to find that there is no manager to speak to at the fraud department. They transferred me to Fraud, held the line for 30+ minutes for me to find that there was no manager to speak to. The regular Fraud representative was very rude when I began asking questions and she was clearly frustrated when she realized she could not answer them and when it was revealed that our debit cards are at the whim of a computer algorithm she abandoned the conversation with silence and began to berate me when I pressed further. I will be closing my account next week. This is not safety, this is an institution holding my money captive and making me late paying my rent.Review fromLinda E

Worse bank ever, Peoples was great M&T is beyond incompetent. During the change over they reverted to an old address of ours on our credit card statement it took so many emails, phone calls and bank visits to finally resolve it 5 months later. Most times we do not receive our loan statements, and they let our LOC lapse. I will Never recommend this bank and we are hoping to finish a refinance with another bank soon Buyer Beware!!!M&T Bank

I would give 0 if possible. M&T Bank is refusing to take our home loan payments after us doing a forbearance, paying them back, and trying to force us into foreclosure. All payments were made, and a form was mailed out to us 2 times (which we filled out 2 times and returned) and they claim they have not received it. We currently have to hire an attorney to get involved because they admitted to having received our money, but they are not applying it to our principal. They are openly admitting that different representatives of M&T are giving different information about our account. This is not the only HORROR story we have heard about them trying to force families into foreclosure. It is sickening. NEVER, NEVER, NEVER trust your home in the hands of M&T.M&T Bank

M&T chose to close my 40 years account after doing business with the former People's Bank before M&T took over. I have my direct deposit set up with this account which now causes for any bills that I had set up here for auto pay not to take place and for my paycheck to be held another 2 weeks before I can get my money. Simply because M&T thought and felt it was a good idea for this to take place nevermind the people that live paycheck to paycheck and have to have a bank account to receive their money. This is sad, DO BETTER M&T DO BETTER.M&T Bank
