      M&T Bank is the WORST! My husband and I were thinking it must be a scam! We've been in a 30 fixed mortgage since 2019 with no problems. We’ve also owned homes since 2001.
      M&T bank purchased our loan from *** and 2 months later our mortgage payments increase by $300! When asked why they stated that there wasn't enough money in our escrow account when they did "THEIR" Analysis " of our account. Our insurance payment doesn't come out our account until July at which time there would be enough funds to cover. We asked could we just cover the escrow in advance. We were told no, that we would need to do a different kind of loan that didn't include the escrow. Their representative told us that our
      "fixed" rate would continue to fluctuate and several times suggested that we get a new homeowners insurance company (we've been with ours (****) for 23 years) or refinance our 2.75% rate with one of their 6% plus loans! We are too disgusted! SCAMMERS! Trying to scam you out of your good rate! Need a lawyer to de with these folks!

      I had an unauthorized payment come out of my checking account- the day after it happened I saw that a merchant double deducted me- I called my bank M&T bank- reported it/ signed an affidavit and it went through to investigation dept. I never received a call- and email- letter through the mail for any proof (which I tried to hand to the bank in person and they said wait for the letter in the mail from investigation dept). Again a month went by- no calls, emails or letter in mail. I finally called and spoke to someone to check status (called every week at least 2 times a week with all diff answers)- she then told me I was denied!!! I said based on what- even the merchant that did it said they were working on the refund as it happened to many diff clients- so without any proof and the merchant saying it was their error- “my bank” denied me. This is MY money- I reopened the claim- and I am 1000% leaving M&T bank. I was with Peoples United until M&T bought them out- M&T bank is ridiculous- the bank tellers know nothing and the ones in my town are just plain lazy/ they don’t want to be bothered or they just don’t know what their doing/or what to do in certain situations. Transferring to a new bank this Friday!!!

      I was robbed at gunpoint and now I'm being victimized again by M&T bank. I called immediately after I got away from my attackers and had them shut down my debit card but it was too late, they had already withdrawn money. I have provided M&T with the information from the police and I know there was video footage from the ATM however 2 months later M&T has denied my claim. PNC bank was very quick to do an investigation and reverse the charges to my card, they were also patient and understanding during the process, unlike the M&T representatives. I am immediately closing all of my M&T accounts and moving my money to PNC.

      We have an auto loan through M&T and somehow a double payment was made and taken out of my bank account. Things have been tight lately and I can't afford for that to happen. Trying to get through to someone on the phone is nearly impossible. When I finally do, I'm put on hold forever and transferred to several different people. It took 45 minutes to get the "right department" to help me. I was told that it will take 10 business days for the money to go back in my account and that they're sorry for any inconvenience. Yeah, its been a HUGE inconvenience! It's just been a terrible experience overall! We will never go through M&T for anything again!

      I opened a Small Business checking account with M&T in Sterling. The woman told me that it was a free checking but I must make 5 transactions a month before they charge me a fee. She never told me that if you close your account before 6 months or so there is a 68.00 or so penalty for closing your account.
      I didn't really all 15 pages or so papers works came with opening the account even If I read them I still need to close the account.
      The business didn't get off the ground and I don't want to keep putting money distribution in it. If I don't close the account they will charge me monthly for no activities.
      They invested the small money you have in their bank account then they make money from you when closing the account.

      I am a M&T customer formerly a People’s United customer. I made 2 deposits in January 26th, but when I checked my accounts the next day the deposits were not there. I called the bank on Friday, January 27 and spoke to the bank manager. I made the transaction at the North Haven Stop & Shop location.
      The bank manager asked me for all the information I had and he told me he would look into it. The deposit receipts I was given after making the deposits did not have my account number on them. This was a human error, which I do understand. However, as of February 1st, I only had received half of the money I deposited in my accounts.
      I had called the North Haven branch multiple times they continue to try to find out from the corporate office what is happening with the rest of the money. The adjustment department kept telling the North Haven branch it’s pending. I decided to call the customer service line for M & T and the person there did look into it for me and told me that the transaction to correct the error and put the money in my account should be there on February 2nd. Finally on February 2nd; the balance of what was due to me was deposited.
      This is completely unacceptable that this was a bank error and it took an entire week to correct the error. The deposits were from a payroll check, but yet M&T just brushed it off instead of making it a top priority to get me my money ASAP! i will be changing banks! Just awful; what if I was a someone who really needed that money to buy groceries for my family!

      Im writing this review because i have a on going issue since April, I had water damage in my home and I got a insurance check, I mailed it to M&T Bank in Aug.2022, the repairs have been made, I have up loaded and faxed all my doc to them got confirmation from Debbie at M&T Bank she states all funds will be released, up till today 02-01-23 8:30am no funds have been release or requested according to Judy. Meanwhile I have the contractor pounding on my door wanting payment and harassing me of sending me to small claims and collections. claim#******** if could leave a 1/2 star i would

      Stay away from M&T Bank
      Opened an account on December 2021 and closed on August 2022.
      Not only were they late for four online payments of my gas card and blamed me even though I pay my bills regardless of the date any payment is due the first of the month but they also were late with my last car payment for which I had to pay late fees.
      I received a 1099-INT from them on Saturday and couldn’t for the life of me figure out what this was as I’ve never received one from a bank.
      Turns out they give you an incentive of $50 times 3 to do direct deposit which wasn’t new to me but unknowingly they report it as income and they hassle you if direct deposit is not done right away as it takes a bit to change where payments go. That was a surprise and something they didn’t tell you.
      If anything they owe me $116 for gas card and last car payment they told me back in January when they first didn’t pay my gas bill they would do if they were at fault.

      For the past several months, M&T has declined several of my debit card purchases for no reason. There is obviously a system issue that needs to be resolved, and this is extremely frustrating when trying to use debit cards. I have lost out on purchases, sales, tickets, etc due to this issue. I have filed multiple complaints with their fraud dept with no resolutions and future declined purchases. Unacceptable, and I will be changing banks as soon as I am able. Super frustrating since I’ve had them for years, and have several auto-deductions and direct deposit with them, but this is getting ridiculous. They need to get their fraud/security issues resolved before they start losing more customers.

      This M&T bank took over mortgage of my home payment has been same last 4 years with former mortgage Co. I've made two payments to M&T and now payment has gone up $60. I got a bill in mail that read new payment would be 1187. Up from 1129. No reason or explanation.
      Will look to refinance.
