Our trash collection agency was sold to Rumpke last year. Since then, our trash pickup has been completely hit and miss. They only empty our dumpster when we call to complain. Sometimes they come and take a few bags off the top. Sometimes they even turn around in our driveway but don’t get our trash. We have called with complaints 11 times since December 5. Right now our dumpster is overflowing. They were supposed to pick up Friday. We called THREE TIMES Friday and were assured they would pick up that day. They did not. Since the start of 2025, Rumpke has not come to pick up either the recycling or trash. In each instance, I've had to call. In one example, the recycling was left on the end of the driveway for four days without pickup.
Nothing is being done to resolve these issues. I'm told that they'll look into the matter, but no one has ever called to tell me that it has been resolved. I just have to call again. The first time I was told that it was a snow emergency, but the entire subdivision (barring our street) was served. I get the impression that accuracy and honesty are not high on their list.
When I called today, I was also asked if the other houses on the street had been served. Then I was told that it was likely the things in my trash can (this was suggested even though they had never looked in my trash can. Blaming the customer is not an appropriate method.)
Apparently, they want me to stay home every Friday afternoon to report the lack of service, and then walk up/down the street to see if they've skipped other homes. I'm not sure why this issue is not corrected after two months, but it continues.
Given all this, the monopoly said it would not give me a credit/discount for the demands on my time. I was supposed to be given a survey at the end of the call, but that didn't work either. So I had to come here.Business Response

I canceled rumpke service on December 27, 2024, when they bought out my service from ****** Sanition. This toter has been sitting in my yard since December 27, 2024, the same day I canceled. I canceled Rumpke Trash service around October 2024 due to them constantly raising their rates. They advised me where I should leave their trash can and it sat there for several weeks. I called and complained because they sent me another bill for 50$ and said it was because they could not get the can, even though it was where they told me to put it which was easily visible from the road. I am off work on Fridays which was the day they said they tried to pick up the can and no one from Rumpke ever made an attempt. After I complained to them about the 50$ charge I was told it would be taken off of my account and they did come the following week and pick up the can. I am filing the complaint because they sent me to collections over the 50$ that I should not owe them and on top of that I have photo evidence of them touching my private property. They continue to pick up my personal trash can even after I have told them to stop.Business Response

Service is 65 a month according to my statement. Full refund requested for the previous 6 months of horrendous service.
Rumpke bought our local trash company *******. Rumpke has missed our trash and failed to fulfill its service 6 times since they have taken over since November. ******* has NEVER missed us. It may have been "just trash" but they did it exceptionally. The first time Rumpke missed it, I called and was promised a pickup ASAP. Called every day asking when they would pick it up. THEY MISSED IT THE SECOND WEEK IN A ROW ON THE SCHEDULED DAY. I call in and start by ensuring my account is paid in full and I'm in good standing before asking why they refuse to pick up my trash as the service I purchased. They cannot fulfill their contract. They do not do their job. Every week I come home or leave for work wondering if I'm going to have an overgrown pile of garbage this week because Rumpke can't complete their service contract. I want a full refund since they have taken over, my trash service fulfilled EVERY week without any doubt or worry that its going to be missed and my family is going to have an excess of garbage luring racoons and animals to our yard. I have young children, the school bus picks them up and they have to stand in the morning on trash day next to a giant pile of trash because rumpke missed their pickup and as a family of 5 it doesn't stop accumulating.Business Response

Rumpke failed to provide services that were paid for in the months of January and February 2025. Rumpke listed our road as not serviceable due to weather for 4 weeks in January. I do agree 2 out of those 4 weeks our road was not passable. After 3 weeks they sent a pickup truck to pick up trash then missed the following week. The postal service and school transportation were still providing service the last 2 weeks of January. Rumpke listed our road as not serviceable due to weather on 2/11/25 and once again we had no other service interruptions. The road was completely passable. This is a reoccurring pattern with Rumpke and we are offered no other options for trash services in our area. We have asked for a credit for weeks they didn’t pick up but we were told they do not offer credits for weather delays. The weather delay is solely at the discretion of the driver. We even offered to take our own trash to the land fill and were told we would have to pay for that. Rumpke offers no solutions or any contact on delays, etc, other than “It will have to wait until your next scheduled pickup day” Myself and others have had to pile trash outside and animals get into it. This is the 2nd time since January that our trash was not collected. In both instances the smaller can is emptied, but the larger Rumpke can is left full. The first time this happened was in January and we ended up taking the trash to your landfill to drop off. This was after many failed attempts to get resolution through “customer service “. Customer received the bill for the trash. Customer made phone contact with the billing department for Rumpke. Customer complained that his yard waste has not been picked up in months. Rumpke representative indicated that they changed the yard waste pick up date from Tuesday to Wednesday in August of 2024. Customer asked representative to advise how Rumpke let customer know of this change. Representative reported that he had no notes in the system that Rumpke notified the client of change of service day. Customer asked Representative how this was good buisness to change a client's service day, but not to notify the client. Representative in short terms advised client that it was tough luck and that Rumpke would not modify the bill.
Customer asked about being billed for a week of trash service in January of 2025 when Rumpke did not come to the home due to snow. Representative reported he would take five dollars off the bill. Client again said that the math related to five dollars off the bill does not add up to one week of service with the bill totals 177 and is for 12 weeks of service. Representative had no response related to the statement and did not provide any further direction on how they could remedy the issues and/or concerns.
Customer is out 60 dollars for yard waste services, when Rumpke failed to notify customer of service day change.
Customer is out an approximately 6.81 for one week of service that he did not receive with an additional 2.06 that was charged for fuel fee when the fuel was not even utilized. This is comparison to past bills.
Rumpke appears to believe it is appropriate to change services without notifying its clients and to charge illegally for services they did not provide in hopes that customers do not catch their service fees for services that they did not render.
