Consumer Cellular brags about being transparent in its commercials. Yet it doesn't even itemize customers' bills or tell you the true amount you will be charged. In my online account, it states only that I am being charged a total of $23.50. Yet the actual amount I am charged is $28.50. I called Consumer Cellular customer service and was told, "That additional amount is taxes and other fees, not us." I said I want to see these additional amounts itemized in my online statement. **************** rep said that's not possible. Every other company itemizes bills and shows the amount of taxes and fees. Why is Consumer Cellular incapable of that standard "transparent" business practice?

I have had CC for over 4 years, since they are changing to exclusively ATT forced new sim cards I have had nothing but problems. Dropped calls, missed calls. delayed text msg, and spotty service at best. I have had 3-4 calls to their support with no true solutions. Just called again today and was told "sorry for the inconvenience, but there is not much CC can do. I recommend you look for another provider". The claim that they have same service as all others is BS!I have a ******** tower in my back yard but is no value. Worst part of the call was after the woman told me sorry but look elsewhere, then asked for my pin and was going to check my account history. She threw others under the bus saying they never documented any of my previous calls. CC, you need to improve you customer service training as well as hiring process.Bottom line, I'm moving on from what was a great value to me for better service. Good luck.

Thank you for taking the time to let us know about your experience. Consumer Cellular bills in arrears for monthly services and usage, much like a utility company. We are not a prepaid provider; service is month to month. When an account is closed, there is always a final bill for service through the cancellation date. We would be happy to review your final billing with you; please contact our U.S. based customer service at the number above.

They dont quote a price. They advertise one but say plus taxes and fees. When you call they wont tell you what taxes and fees are. When questioned they just say sales tax. Beware or undisclosed fees.

      Date: 10/14/2023

Thank you for taking the time to let us know about your experience. All of our prices do not include tax. However, taxes vary based on your zip code. The taxes on our service include city, state and county taxes based on the billing address. In some states, other taxes get charged as well, such as E911. Please note all of these fees are mandated by federal, state, county or municipal governing bodies, and Consumer Cellular has no control over their type or amount. They can generally run between 15 - 20%. To get a closer approximation, you can look at your invoice with your current carrier and the taxes should be listed there.

Poor customer service toward disabled blind customers. I was trying to assist my aunt with getting her cell phone transfered to another company. Consumer crllulsr was not understanding that my aunt did not use email because she was blind. They sent the transfer code to a phone number that she or I had access to. I asked if they could send it to me, so I can get her new phone activated. My aunt has not had a phone since May, when she went back to Consumer Cellular, because they sold her a phone that did not meet her needs to talk to her. We finally found the phone she needs and is ready to transfer, but Consumer Cellular has made it very difficult and frustrating. This experience has caused my aunt major stress, she has no way of communicating with family, friends, and doctors. This has placed her in an unsafe space, due to not being able to call for help, if need be. As her niece who lives 3 hours away I feel frustrated and angry because I can't ensure her safety and provide her with a working phone. This has been a terrible experience, which is unacceptable.

CC automatically upgrades you to the next plan up if you go over your data limit which is fine but what they don't tell you is that in addition to paying for the next plan up, they charge you an ADDITIONAL FEE of $5 as a service charge. Your plan now stays at that rate indefinitely unless you change it yourself through their website. I find this deceptive and manipulative. You have to contact them and request auto upgrade to be turned off if you don't want to be ripped off.

      Consumer Cellular

Consumer Cellular's service and plans are based on usage. Information about this can be located on our website at https-//www.consumercellular.com/WhyUs under No Overage Fees. When our customer exceeds the usage on the plan, rather than charge overage fees, the plan is increased to accommodate the usage and the customer is notified of the increase. In addition, plan information is included on our invoices.

We do offer our customers the option to remove automatic upgrades from their connect package. When a customer opts out of automatic upgrades if they reach their plan limit, data speeds will be reduced for the rest of the billing cycle unless the customer chooses to increase the data plan.

Consumer Cellular is the worst. Harassed and gave me a hard time for 3.5 hours over porting my number to Spectrum. Run as far from this incompetent company as you can!

      Consumer Cellular

We are sorry to hear you encounter frustration when transferring your number from our service. Consumer Cellular follows strict guidelines to ensure your number is kept safe and requires a port out pin be provided prior to releasing a number.

We understand this can cause a delay, however with the increased number of SIM Swap and Port out Scams increasing in the cellular industry, it is necessary to take extra precautions with our customers information and numbers.

I hate CC they are NOT unlimited data. I have had them for 3 months and they keep suspending my date. I am only at 6 gigs and can't even watch anything on my phone. When I call they tell me to use wi fi but I don't have access. Buyer beware they lie. I am so disappointed in Consumer Cellular.

      Consumer Cellular

      Date: 10/09/2023

With unlimited data plans, there are no limits to the amount of data a customer can use, however, data speed is reduced once a customer has used a preset amount of data. This is a general standard for carriers nationwide. This practice helps to optimize overall network performance and maintain a quality service experience for as many customers as possible.

Once a Consumer Cellular customer has used 50GB of data in a billing cycle, their data speed will be reduced.

I am extremely disappointed with the service I have been getting from Consumer Cellular recently. Their prices have been more than competitive and their customer service was outstanding. I appreciated theyre US based. The battery on my phone, which I purchased through Consumer Cellular started to swell, Cellular informed of a protection plan and urgent to correct this situation. I had the battery replaced; the new battery would not hold a charge. The Protection Plan sent a new phone at no charge. I know very little to activate the phone, I relied on Consumer Cellular for support and it wasnt there. I took the reps suggestion and they set an appointment in my local Target Store. I got up early, we adjusted our schedules so that I could attend the session and at a location easily accessible for me. I was informed the session would be in the back of the store. I am nearly 70 years of age, extremely over weight and disabled. Walking a distance is very difficult and challenging. I was in a great deal of pain when I reached the Consumer Cellular station to find no staff present nor Market Source representative who was to review my phone. There was no way to contact him nor Market Source. This is a terribly flawed system between Consumer Cellular, Target and Market Source leaving customers as myself with my disability in a lurch and all done at our expensive and inconvenience. I contacted Consumer Cellular from Target only to experience an employee and supervisor who could have been more mature and professional. They were of no assistance and reiterated there is nothing can be done. This is a phrase that is not part of my consciousness as my bosses never allowed such a philosophy. There is a way to deal with all issues. As a customer in good standing, I expect to be compensated for the inconvenience imposed on me a Senior citizen with a disability. How many others at my age and ability level have been or will be put in such unsafe unproductive situation.

I called Consumer Cellular to figure out how my 80-year-old dad could get a new phone and have it set up for him without having to personally set it up for him through a **************** call or trying to do it on the computer. After being told that he needed to schedule an appointment for this, I told ********, the person I was speaking with, that I felt if my dad scheduled an appointment, he still would not get the help he needed and his phone would not be set up for him. After saying this to the lady twice, she hung up on me. I, myself, have U.S. Cellular as a service provider and can walk into a U.S. Cellular store and have them fix my phone, set up a new phone, transfer my contacts, etc., without any issues. Sometimes these visits can take an hour or two, but U.S. Cellular always helps their customers with whatever they need. Consumer Cellular is supposed to be a service provider for the Senior Citizens in this country. The Senior Citizens do not always know how to use a computer or even use all the available perks on their phones, so how can Consumer Cellular expect that a Senior Citizen would be able to set up their new phone themselves or even with guidance through a phone call to the company. If I had to choose between Consumer Cellular and U.S. Cellular, I'm sticking with U.S. Cellular. Consumer Cellular is basically a worthless service provider in my opinion.
