On Friday, Aug 23, I paid for a parking spot for $11.49 at ********************************************. The next day I received an email that I signed up for a subscription for the parking lot next to it at ***************************************************************** and was charged $*****. I never signed up and never have in the past. The email also states it was for Nov 2022 which I was not living in ************** at the time. In addition, it states the next charge will be Dec 2022 which doesnt make sense. My credit card was charged ***** on Aug 23. I tried to reach out but Metropolis does not have a phone number on their website nor do they have adequate contact information. I sent a ticket request for help but the individual was saying I was being charged from the previous year. Again, the email states it was from 2022 and I did not live in the area. She also states that monthly subscriptions are charged on the 1st of every month, yet my charge is on Aug 23. She tries to give instructions to cancel my subscription but when I follow those steps, it shows zero active and zero past subscriptions. I do not want to be charged again and I want a refund for being charged for a subscription I never agreed to.Business Response

Business advertises a specified parking fee based off the time that you utilize the parking lot. Upon exiting, they charge the stated price plus a service fee that was never advertised. I emailed and asked for a refund for the service fee that wasnt advertised and they stated that it was to provide a proprietary technology platform. If I didnt want to pay the service fee then dont utilize the parking service. At the end of the day, I dont care what they choose to utilize to operate their business. I care about paying what ** told Im going to be charged. This feels like a manipulative business practice to gain more revenue. They should be upfront about pricing.Business Response

I parked at a Metropolis parking lot in **************. Upon entering the lot in my rental car, I used the ** code in the parking lot to add it to my Metroplois account and pay for ********************** which totalled $13.99.Upon leaving lunch, there was a Metropolis Parking Violation on my car. I contacted their resolution center, provided proof of parking, along with the violation information, and the company is stating the violation is from another parking lot. I was never in the other lot nor could have been at the exact same time. Not physically possible. With email interactions, the company is refusing to acknowledge this and is stating the violation is valid. In doing web searches, this is a common problem with Metropolis and I feel predatory.I have paid the additional $33.25 for the violation but feel that it should be refunded as I never parked in the other lot.Business Response

I parked at a Metropolis facility. After parking I was looking for place to pay. The directions are not clear on active payment method. People cannot pay if there are no directions! I know that your facility may not believe in a higher power, however, it is wrong to not give directions for an easy payment method and have the nerve to give people violations for parking. Your company is stealing from people by giving parking violations to people who actually wanted to pay but had no direction to help facilitate that. If you viewed your camera, I was out in the rain frantically trying to locate the payment center and when I did there were no clear directions, and I was clueless!Business Response

On Aug. 14, 2024, at about 12:04pm, parked in a lot managed by Metropolis. I had to scan a QR code and enter my license plate and payment information to park. The Metropolis signs did not say the hourly rate. I came back about an hour and a half later and looked for how to pay. The Metropolis website for my visit said it would scan my car or license plate and automatically invoice me on the way out. So I drove out. I received a text two days later (Aug. 16) that said I was charged $15.99 for 48 hr 11 min of time!I contacted Metropolis customer service by email and asked for a refund. A representative named ******* responded that "If the camera does not capture your vehicle driving out, the visit will automatically close after 48 hours and you will be charged the minimum amount." ***** also said "The time stamp on your receipt *is not accurate* and I apologize for the confusion that may have caused. Our system may be unable to capture your license plate due to inclement weather or other hindrances obstructing the camera's view of your vehicle."***** said "this is a rare instance where our system missed your vehicle upon exiting," but instead of processing a refund for the system error, ***** went on to say that the facility has an "auto-close feature" and "the appropriate amount" of 48 hours was charged. This absolutely makes no sense, that because Metropolis's technology failed, I am getting deliberately overcharged for more than 46 hours of parking. Metropolis refuses to offer any refund or correct the situation.Business Response

I went to the ************** on the night of June 4. For parking, there was a lot attendant that was swiping credit cards, which I used. In early August, I received a violation from Metropolis Parking stating I owed them about $80 for an unpaid fee. I used their complaint resolution process to send them a screenshot of my credit card statement so they could correct their error. Metropolis persisted in saying I needed to provide more proof that I had paid.I then searched about complaints for Metropolis and saw many complaints for wrongful charges, including the mayor of *********. I also saw that there is a pending class action suit in ***** against the company. Finally, I also saw that their business response is to say "we will contact you" to the BBB complaints. I find it hard to believe this company can conduct its business this way and likely has a monopoly on a large number of parking spaces in *********. I highly recommend the various regulatory authorities look into their business practices and what licenses they hold. The company is harassing people and must be held accountable.Business Response

We were on vacation and drove through ********* for a stop. I was parking in the ************** Retail Garage (**********************************) on August 4, 2024. Managed by Metropolis. This is a camera-enabled garage which means the length of stay is calculated based on the entry and exit of my vehicle in the facility. Hourly rate was $10. There was no issue when we entered the garage. However, when we were trying to exit the garage, there was an issue at the gate which required someone manually enter the license plate to exit. We were sitting in the line for more than 20 mins before we could get out of the gate and we were charged 2 hours(clocked at 1 hour and 5 minutes), total charge was $21 ($20 for parking and $1 service fee). Our actual parking time should be way less than 1 hour. We left plenty of time to exit. The only reason we were past 1 hour was due to Metropolis system error and an attendant was manually entering plate number as we exited. The traffic jam/abnormal exit time was caused by the Metropolis exit machine not functioning properly. There was no Metropolis customer service number to call. I emailed to them asking for the refund on the additional hour which is $10. They emailed me back to decline the request and emphasized that Metropolis is not liable for any traffic that is happening inside/outside Metropolis-operated facilities. If they are the managing company, they should be responsible for the maintenance on the machine. I do not think I should be paying extra due to their machine's malfunction. I did some research online and there are multiple people having similar experience with this garage. Wish I saw those reviews before I parked there.Business Response

On August 11, 2024 (a Sunday during the late morning) I parked in the 4th and ****** parking lot in *********, **. The lot was a scan to pay lot. I thought that the information on the site meant that I would be charged up to $40 maximum to pay, not that only 2.5 hours would cost me $40 to park. That is an outrageous amount to charge for parking especially on a Sunday morning. This company should not be allowed to charge a flat rate of $40 to park. I tried reaching out to the company, and they responded quickly but not satisfactory. I am looking for a partial refund to the amount of money spent. If $40 is charged for 8 hours then that means it $5/hour. I spent 2.5 hours in the spot so about $15 is a reasonable price to pay for parking. I am looking for a $25 refund on the parking. Thank you for facilitating a resolution, and I look forward to hearing back from you.Business Response

I am rejecting this response because: Charging $42 to park for 3 hours on a Sunday morning is outrageous. The company has told me that they do not plan to refund part of the money, so I am not looking for anything else from them. I just wanted to make sure that a formal complaint on this company is on file with the Better Business Bureau. Thank you for your assistance.

Last month (July 2024) - our daughters attended a ********************* in downtown ******. We picked them up each day from the church and were directed - with about a thousand other parents - by local police on where to park to pick our kids up.We parked for about 15 minutes and this occurred four times during the week. There were no signs anywhere or anything indicating that there was a cost to park. Additionally, this is where parishioners of the church park regularly on Sundays and there is not a cost to park.On 8/8/2024, we received a bill and parking ticket in the mail from Metropolis stating we owed $5 for four separate parking transactions with a $70.25 fee EACH TIME! They are demanding we pay over $300 in total! This is predatory and out of control. We did not enter into any kind of contract with this business, there were no signs anywhere stating what or how to pay, and then the first correspondence we receive includes violation costs of $281 with language that they will turn us over to a collection agency if we do not pay.I have already reached out - via email - to request Metropolis drop the parking fares that we never were aware of and the predatory fees. They do not have a phone number and I doubt I am even corresponding with a human. They will not respond with anything other than generic pre-programmed responses.A quick ****** search shows this company is already party to a class action lawsuit. We need this resolved and we need this company to stop its predatory practices. At this point Im not even sure this is not a scam! Beware!Business Response

On June 8th, we drove to downtown ********* to eat dinner. We parked in a Metropolis garage & walked 2-3 blocks to eat at a restaurant. We walked 2 blocks the wrong direction, got info from a lady cop on horseback, & walked another 4 blocks to find the restaurant had closed (*******). We then walked back to our car & left the city. We ate at a restaurant across the parking lot from our hotel, ***** minutes away. When we left, the garage didn't check us out as leaving. I've been emailing this company for weeks, trying to get them to review & change the $42 charge against us for staying less than an hour in their garage. They keep closing the ticket & saying the issue is "solved!"My last contact was with *****, dated Sunday, 8/4/24. Subject: "Metropolis Update: Your ticket #******* has been marked as solved"That was in response to my request asking her how to get the Metropolis App, so I could "close" my visit in the garage, so the ticket issue could be settled.I've attached a copy of the email string.Thank you for your help.Sincerely,*****************************Business Response

I am rejecting this response because: Nothing has changed. I've seen the "sorry for the inconvenience this has caused" message at least 4 times. They are unwilling to reduce the $42 "minimum" charge for less than an hour of parking in their garage. They also responded that when I scanned their code in the garage, it would have shown me the parking fee. It did NOT. If it had, there is NO Way we would have parked there!! Their exit camera did not capture a picture of our car leaving the garage, hence the 160+ hours of parking we were assigned at the beginning of this mess.
So, the apology from Metropolis is meaningless without a decent refund. I expect at least a $30 refund.
Sincerely,

I am rejecting this response because:They refuse to make any adjustments to the outrageous charge ($40) for less than an hour parking. They say I was shown how much it would cost me to park there, but that screen never showed up on my phone.
I realize it is useless to pursue this any further. However, I am still NOT HAPPY with their lack of integrity, and robbing me of hard-earned money just because there was a special event in town! You can bet I will NEVER use Metropolis Parking again!!
