We were in ********* in October. We were very diligent about paying for parking but there was one lot the we could not figure out how to pay. We did not think much about it. Almost 4 months later I received a bill from the rental car company for 3 parking ticket from Metropolis for $70.25 each. Their website stated you have 30 days to dispute the ticket and we knew nothing about it to dispute it so were out of luck. The part that is really difficult to understand though is how they could ticket us on 10/11/22 @ 2:56 p.m. for $70.25, 10/11/22 @ 2:58 p.m. for $70.25 and 10/11/22 @ 3:20 p.m. for $70.25. That goes beyond excessive. The rental company added on an administrative fee so now I am looking at $300.75 in parking violations. That to me screams scam. The violation numbers are: *********, *********, *********Business Response

I am rejecting this response because: While they did dismiss two of the parking violations I still feel that a $70.00 parking violation is extremely excessive. We attempted to pay at the parking lot and were unable to do so. Again, we were visitors and I find it pathetic anyone is taken advantage of in this manner.

Good afternoon,
Thank you for contacting McKinley Payments, now Metropolis Payments. We have a dedicated support team that has followed up with you via email. The violations that were received at our 2nd & Broad on location on 10/11/22 were issued for nonpayment of the parking fee at the time of service. Two of those violations were issued fairly close together one at 2:58PM & one at 3:20PM so we have refunded two payments of $70.25 to Hertz Rental car company, this was done out of fairness to the customer as the times were fairly close together. There was a third violation that was issued on 10/11/22 that was issued before the others at 2:56PM, we have requested proof of payment for parking on this day and they have not submitted proof to date. Because we have no record of a payment being made, that violation is valid and the requested refund is denied. We apologize for the inconvenience that this matter has caused, and feel that we have made a reasonable effort to resolve this matter.Have a great day.

Complaint: 18982641I don't see how the $70 violation fee is reasonable. In addition the rental car added $30 administration fee so the violation fee turned into $100.25. Even though two of the scam violations have been refunded, I am now having difficulty recouping the refund you sent to the rental car company who paid the bill and in turn charged my credit card so in essence I have still paid $300.75 at this pain. This entire experience has been a nightmare and should have never happened in the first place.
Sincerely,

Hello,
Thank you for contacting McKinley Payments, now Metropolis Payments. We have a dedicated support team that has followed up with you via email, and this matter is considered closed at this time. Just to recap: The customer parked at **********************' 2nd and Broad location on 10/11/22 in a rental vehicle with license plate FL ******, and did not pay for the service that we provided in the form of parking. Because no payment was made at that time 3 violations were issued, ***** has paid these violations and the customer has disputed the violations & asked for ***** to be refunded for all of the violation fees. Out of fairness to the customer we refunded to of those violation payments to Hertz because they were given fairly close together. We asked for the customer to verify that a payment was made for parking on this date, and the customer was unable to verify payment. So the third violation is valid & the request to waive/refund that violation fee has been denied. The customer will need to make prompt payment to avoid any late fees.Again, this decision is final and cannot be appealed.
Thank you.

This occurred in *******, ** at a Metropolis parking lot.1/7/2023 I entered the parking lot. The entry gate was open, signage said to drive through. There were no parking attendants in the lot.I parked for 3.5 hours then left the lot through the exit gate which was open and had signage to drive through.I have since received a parking ticket charging $8 parking fee and $70.25 ticket fine. When I contacted Metropolis to dispute the charges, they said since this was my first offense, the fee was reduced to $50.I am not disputing the parking fee. I will pay for parking, but the fine is excessive. I didn't do anything to deserve a fine. ***** were open and signs said to drive through.I will also add that I used the same lot on November 25, 2022. At that time, the gates were also open and the signs said to drive through. I had no problems that day. Why parking in this lot when it is totally open okay one day and then not another?Business Response

On Sunday, January 8, 2023 I parked in the covered parking garage at ****************************************************************** was open and there was no attendant, therefore I assumed I would pay at the exit. However, when exiting, that gate was also open and there was no attendant. I assumed that parking is free on Sundays like it is at the city-owned garages. Later that week I received an invoice for $6.00 parking fee plus $30.25 ticket fine. I responded with an email requesting some consideration to reduce the fine because I assumed parking on Sunday was free with both gates up and no attendants. They responded that since I was a first-time offender, they would reduce the charge to $30. I strongly believe that even the reduced fee of $30 is "Highway Robbery!" Upon further investigation, a sign was discovered that said all fees must be paid by smartphone. I did not notice the sign and believe the fine is way too big. Also, if parking must be made only with a smart phone, there should be a very conspicuous sign at the entrance to inform customers - especially those who don't even own a smartphone.Business Response

My husband and I have parked in various parking lots in downtown ********* on multiple occasions. We have installed the Metropolis Parking app on both our phones. Invariably, the unmanned parking lot license plate readers fail to record our leaving the lot, and we are charged exorbitant late fees. We have followed all instructions given by Metropolis to make their inept parking app work, to no avail. Instead of trying to levy usurious fines on people, the company should work on correcting the issues with their product.Business Response

I received notice of a parking ticket for failure to pay for parking for less than an hour of parking at the **** West End Garage. I saw no signs that parking there required payment. I have parked there a few years ago when parking was complementary if you were going to one of the business that face Centennial Park in front of the building. I was going to ************** I entered the garage from the ************** side, and I will reiterate, I saw no signs indicating this garage required a fee to park. Id like the fare and the fine totaling $73.25 to be dismissed.Business Response

I received a ticket for a parking violation on 12/12/22 (entered lot at 6:**** and left at 7:56pm). I parked and went into a restaurant and tried to pay when I first parked through the online app. I also came out of the restaurant twice during dinner and tried to pay with the app and also tried to pay right before I left the lot. The app would not work and I could not pay that evening. I was happy to pay the $25.00 parking fare, but I am disputing the $70.35 fine because the app wouldnt work. This was completely out of my control and I attempted to contact Metropolis parking on numerous occasions to pay the $25.00. They continually informed me that they could not remove the fine even after multiple online requests and even a phone call through their customer service number. This company is shady, they are charging people fines for issues out of the customer control, and they have no system in place to hear customer stories/complaints and make the situations right.I ultimately agreed to pay a reduced fee of $50, which I still think is completely ridiculous.I can provide more information if needed including fine paperwork, violation numbers, etc. I just do not have them with me at the time of filing this complaint.Business Response

I am rejecting this response because: Metropolis payments continues to avoid refunding the payment I was forced to make after multiple attempts at reaching their customer service department to plead my case regarding the ticket I received. They are now trying to place the blame on me as well, for not having my license plate "registered" in their system. There are numerous articles, reports, and news stories about how this company is over-charging, falsely charging, and not taking responsibility when their system/infrastructure fails. Once again, I made multiple attempts to pay my parking fare on the night of the incident (the parking fare was $25). I could not do so because of their APP not working. They went ahead and tried to give me a ticket for almost $100 and then claim to be making a courtesy by reducing it to $50. I paid this after many attempts at having this resolved so as not to be sent to collections or something similar. What they are doing is wrong and they will not take any responsibility.
Sincerely,

I went to a parking garage downtown, gulch area as I have visited several times before. I have signed up for the app. I have current card payment on file. The sign says sign up for the app. Then just drive in, drive out. I am already signed up so I did the usual. Drove in. Drove out. Now I am being fined over $76 because the app did not work and I did not realized that I had not been charged. I have requested to be charge the parking fee which was supposed to be like $7. Now I have an outrageous bill because Metropolis parking app was not working. I shouldnt have to pay this fine. Just the parking fee. I have emailed several times and they give me the run around. Told me I could pay $50. I shouldnt have to pay at all! I asked to speak to a manager and they told me only email available (no phone) and stopped responding when I want to speak to a manager. I feel like I am being scammed for money.Business Response

My fianc has a parking account set up the Metropolis ************ in *********. My license plate and care are both attached to the account, and as such, my should be allowed to park in the lot for free. However, I have received several parking tickets, all of which just came to my house yesterday (1/19). They were approx. $500 dollars total. Some at $75, others at $100. As I said, my car is registered to park there, and I need this fixed. My fianc's name is *********************************.Business Response

12/17/2022 I entered the parking garage at 7:06 PM CST. I scanned the ** code provided by Metropolis/Premier Parking and entered all of my card information and saved it. The cost to park was $25.00 for the day, and I shouldve been automatically charged when my vehicle left the garage. They are claiming that I never paid and have fined me an additional $70.25 for a total of $95.25. I am not at fault here, and should not be required to pay a fine to compensate for an error made on their end. I filed a dispute for the charge with Metropolis/Premier Parking and they denied the dispute with no further explanation. I will attach the emails and parking fine. Their claim is that I never paid, when the error was that they never charged my card. I would be happy to pay the original price of $25.00, but Im not paying a fine when the error was on their end.Business Response
