10/26/2022 Violation #*********** Ticket Reason Non-Payment Entry and Exit time are both listed as being 11:34 am Location ********************************** in ********* We didnt pay because the sign said that the first hour of parking was free and we were only there roughly 30 minutes to grab lunch at Joyland. I am filing this complaint because it was a simple misunderstanding and the parking ticket issued of $45.20 is unreasonable and excessive. $20.00 is for unpaid parking which is untrue because they state the first hour is free. Then an additional fine of $25.25 was tacked on. My husband and I were driving cross country from ******* ********** to ************* ******* and went out of our way to stop at the restaurant Joyland after seeing it on the ** show Somebody Feed ****. We were traveling with our dog so I went into the restaurant to order while my husband walked our dog. My husband noticed a woman hanging around the parking lot so she must have been the one who took a pic of our car. She couldve very easily let us know that we were required to register with the company to get the free parking. It seems predatory in nature that she waited til we walked away and immediately gave us a ticket. We only there long enough to eat our food outdoors so maybe 30 minutes. Well within what shouldve been an hour of free parking. The fine is outrageous and a common complaint which Ive come to realize after researching online. This is also terrible PR for ********* and negatively impacted our first visit to the area to enjoy a local eatery, I contacted the company through email to explain what happened to which they replied We have reviewed the details surrounding your dispute and due to the information you have provided, your violation dispute has been denied. Dispute decisions are final and cannot be appealed. We wouldnt have as big of an issue with paying the fine if it fit the offense. A $45.50 fine for parking that shouldve been free is unscrupulous.

I parked in my church parking lot for the Halloween parade downtown on October 29. The gate was open to go in so, I assumed that I would pay the $15 fee as noted on the sign on the way out but the gate was open so I just left. THERE WAS NO PERSON TO PAY AND THE ENTRANCE AND EXIT GATES WERE OPEN. I just received a notice that they are charging a $70.25 fee on top of my original $15 fee. This is my first notice, I didn't even think I had done anything wrong because it was 2 hours in the middle of the day at a church parking lot near a city-sponsored parade. I will dispute this because it's a church parking lot that is free sometimes so proper expectations weren't set and I would have paid if their parking gates were operational. This company should not be operating a church parking lot. There is also no phone number or email to call and discuss only empty threats that i will owe even more money - it's absurd.

Their payment processing system had a glitch at the time we parked. We attempted to pay and actually thought we had paid - no errors reported. I have exchanged multiple emails with customer service in which I offer to pay the parking fee of $10.95 and they will not accept that. They want me to pay a fine of about $40 on top of the parking fee. This is a reduction of fine from $70 in the notice sent to me via regular mail. This does not make sense to me. Their system should be able to detect/confirm our attempt to pay initially. Again, I am happy to pay the $10.95 only but not any fine.

On October 17, 2022 our truck entered a parking garage at *********************************************** to conduct some business for the owners of the parking garage and building. We were there for 32 minutes. We didn't see any signage that stated how you pay for parking. If they do have signage, its not in a place that is convenient to drivers. We got an invoice for $6.00 and a ticket fine of $70.25. Metropolis Violation number ***********. This is unreasonable.

I am being sent a bill for a date that I wasn't there in that parking garage and I have all receipts for all of the days I was there and paid. Even better this parking garage has a parking arm that will not let you in or out without paying. I have emailed them and I am now sending a certified mail to them on this issue, but I am still getting bills, even after they have been notified in writing of this dispute.

On Oct 16 I was destined to have one of the best days of my life. I had signed up for my first ever half marathon-the Detroit free press marathon! I had worked so hard towards this goal! My family was so excited to come support me. My husband dropped me off & went to navigate parking while I stretched & warmed up. My ************ mom parked in a parking structure which we now know is owned by metropolis parking out of *********, **. The day went great & we had a blast. A couple days ago, we surprisingly received a parking ticket from metropolis stating that payment to park was never received. My husband paid the attendant $30 cash to park. Making this story even more frustrating, the parking structure attached photos of him entering the structure and in the photo you can see the attendant taking my husbands money. I have filed a dispute with this parking complex and they have denied it but cannot tell me why-despite the picture that their parking structure took, showing my husband paying someone. This has been so sad and frustrating-I was venting to my coworkers who suggested that I reach out to you! Thank you for your consideration of this crazy situation. My name is ******************************* can be reached back by email or my phone which is ************. Thanks again for all you do to alert consumers!

I've received 3 tickets from Metropolis Payments, which I understand to be an affiliate of McKinley Payments. I validly owe $6, $8, and $15 related to parking on 3 separate dates (8/18/22, 9/21/22, and 10/19/22). These each came to a penalty of $70.25 ($210.75 in total fines), which is exorbitant and not well disclosed across the company's communications. Evidently customers must scan a QR code before leaving some locations to pay, and at others it is done automatically. The signage indicating this is often poor, and the established practice is clearly inconsistent across parking lots within miles of each other.I attempted to resolve this through Metropolis' preferred channel (online forms / email), and they continued to request proof of payment. Per the online payment portal that was confusing to find, there is no option to just pay the $6 parking fee. The only option is to pay the full [$6 + $70.25 = $76.25] ticket up front before the company would even engage in a dialogue evidently. I called customer service (after hunting down a number online and having my call dropped twice), and I finally convinced the agent to waive the two tickets I knew about. After agreeing to waive them, she mentioned I have a third ticket from another instance of parking and that I should pay the fine on that one. The agent then ushered me off the phone and said she'd send an email indicating the two fines were resolved. I received the email, and I have confirmed on Metropolis Payments' website both tickets have been marked as closed. But, I have yet to pay for parking on those corresponding dates to my knowledge.I am happy to pay for parking during my allotted time for all three of the tickets. I will not pay the exorbitant penalty for any of the three. I'm attaching the tickets themselves (including relevant tracking numbers) alongside a couple other documents validating my statements above.

I was in ********* for a brief time on 10/17/22 and parked in a garage that was unattended and had no barrier arms as you enter or exit. I thought that was really odd! Once parked, I saw that there was one of those QR code things to scan. Greata low-tech person in a high tech garage! With no attendant to speak to, I determined my parking fare will be mailed much like ******** does for using their toll roads; they mail the amount you owe. Just as I thought, I received my parking fare of $22.50 for two hours PLUS a ticket fine for not paying for parking of $70.25 for a total of $92.75. I was shocked and outraged! I was being fined for parking in a garage for ONLY tech savvy people and technology? Ridiculous, illegal, discriminatoryyou choose! I was counseled to dispute the full amount of the ticket fine which I did on their website via email on 11/10/22. I stated that I will gladly pay my parking fare, but disputing the ticket fine explaining why. Dismissively ****** responded, Our records indicate that this was your first violation received and we would be willing to reduce the violation amount to $50. Please tell me what violation? I reiterated that I will pay what I owe and asked what alternative means of paying for parking is offered other than high tech which was completely ignored. ****** replied, We do really apologize, however, the reduced fee is final and we cannot reduce it any further. Thank you for your cooperation and understanding. Once again, I asked what alternative means of paying for parking is offered for low tech patrons and told them that I will gladly pay my parking fare?that is the right thing to do. Ive heard nothing since. The company makes it clear they do not accept checks or cash, so how can I pay for my parking fare without the alleged violation being resolved? After this experience, I will never park in a Metropolis garage again. Their business concept is good, but their cronyism will be their demise.

I received a parking ticket over 7x the $10 parking fee which is absurd. There was nowhere to pay the fee and no obvious visible sign to pay online (especially at night). If there was a sign (which I didnt see) it should be prominent especially at night. If it was $20 fee on top of the parking fee, it wouldnt be a problem. I would still have to say you need to make the signs prominent at night so it is obvious and cannot be missed. But over 7x the parking fee is ridiculous. The way the economy is now and this company is going to charge over 7x the fine amount is just sad.

I am rejecting this response because:

There was nowhere to pay the fee and no obvious visible sign to pay online (especially at night). If there was a sign (which was not seen) it should be prominent especially at night.

The response I received on Nov 18, 2022, 8:27 AM PST by ************ was:

Per the parking operator: "The ample signage at the parking facility provides clear instruction to successfully complete parking payment. There are often multiple signs that contain verbiage such as 'How To Pay' or 'Scan To Park'."

The response I received on Nov 16, 2022, 9:00 AM PST by ************************ was:

Per the parking operator: "The ample signage at the parking facility provides clear instruction to successfully complete parking payment. There are often multiple signs that contain verbiage such as 'How To Pay' or 'Scan To Park'."

I received the same exact response both times I reached out without answers to following comments/questions:

#1 - There was no parking operator there so what parking operator provided that response?

#2 - If the parking operator was present, we wouldn't be dealing with this issue at all.

#3 - Per the response "there are often multiple signs..." did this specific facility have multiple signs?

#4 - We were still not given any evidence of what we requested

#5 - Additionally, why is the parking fare $10 (1hr 22 min) on one violation and the other $20 (1hr 14min).  Both were on the weekend.

They clearly give the same response to every complaint/inquiry without providing visual proof of the information requested.  Furthermore, after researching this company, there are NUMEROUS complaints, petitions and news articles/segments on how this company is overcharging customers.

I fully intend on taking further action.

      Sincerely,

I have a credit card on file with this the parking company. I am routinely charged for the times I park in the lots. BUT even though my card has been charged every single time I have parked, McKinley Payments continues to send violation notices with fees that far exceed the original parking fare. Each time they respond with the same we will waive this violation and to avoid this in the future, please place a card on file. I am tired of this company wasting my valuable time as well as the time of other citizens of ********* with their bogus violations.
