I'm writing to file a complaint against METROPOLIS parking.0n 9/16/22, I parked in the garage at ***********************************************************, to eat at a nearby resturant. My husband and I walked around the garage for a bit to look for the payment station. We noticed payment was required through an app. I remembered downloading the app over a year ago when I dined at a restaurant. We walked away from the garage and I could not get the app to work. My husband pointed out that the first hour of parking was free so we would try to be back within an hour. My vehicle was parked int the garage for 1 hour and 30 minutes. My husband pointe out the cameras and said he bet the parking cost would be mailed.I just received the parking ticket in the mail today.Unpaid parking cost: $6.00 Ticket fine is $70.25 My ticket fine is 10x the cost of the parking cost. This should be considered consumer robbery. Also, the company needs to publicly list the fine on their signs. I would have left the garage instead of trusting the app. Before coming to this garage I used a premier parking lot to attend another event this same night and I willingly paid the cost b/c their was a working machine which accepted payment. This should not be allowed and this company needs to be investigated.Business Response

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID ********. At this time, the only option is to pay a reduced $50.00 ticket. I'm over the back and forth with this company so I'm paying the ticket. I'll do my best to avoid lots run my Metropolis in the future.

QUESTIONS:
1. Have you heard from the company? No, I have not heard from the company. However, they did send another invoice requesting payment for the second parking violation.
2. If yes, are you satisfied with their efforts to resolve your concerns? No, I am not satisfied.

I couldn't get the app to work to pay for parking. When the bill came - the original parking was $11, but the fines were $70!!! I can see adding a fine. That makes sense $10 or even $20, but $70?! Can't reach anyone at metropolis.Business Response

On 9/8/22 I attended an event with the Tennessee Titans at **** ******* rooftop bar. I parked in a nearby parking garage located at 1055 Pine Street, Nashville TN XXXXX. When I pulled into the garage there was not attendant nor gate accessing the lot, which was confusing. As I recall there were some signs on the wall with QR codes indicating a method to pay for parking. The QR code led me to an app in which I entered my car information. I was under the assumption that I would prepay for a specified amount of time but not indications were available. Upon leaving the garage approximately 4 hours later I attempted to settle payment for the parking stay. I referenced the same app but no charges were shown. Additionally there seemed no way to indicate that I was leaving the site or close the transaction. The app indicated that it would "know" when I left the location. After leaving and returning home I checked the app again. No settle charges were posted. I checked again multiple times over the next few days as well as my credit card to see if anything had posted. Again nothing.
Approximately 9/28/22 I received a parking violation letter from Metropolis Payments indicating a bill of $12 dollars plus a ticket fine of $70.25. Shocked I immediately tried to call someone to discuss this issue. The company had no reachable number. Next I tried email in which I was offered a reduced fine of $50 dollars. I refused and vehemently stood my ground that I would not be subject to any fine due to the lack of clarity of the transaction. I offered to pay the $12 for the parking stay, which I maintain, I have no issue with but the company denied and sent me the following response: "We have also reviewed the details surrounding your dispute and due to the information you have provided, your violation dispute has been denied. Dispute decisions are final and cannot be appealed."
After checking with the BBB, I was not surprised to see 130 other similar complaints.Business Response

I've now received four parking violations from McKinley parking. The first two were a few months back, and I had to send in verification that I had actually been billed and paid for that parking. This was a total waste of my time and unnecessary. Obviously there was a glitch in their system at that time. I've now received another two violations, one containing a 70-dollar fine for a 4-dollar parking fee and another 70-dollar fine for a 21-dollar fee. For both of these parking instances, I scanned the barcode as instructed and clicked around and thought everything was good. Obviously not or once again their is a glitch in their system. This past week I parked in another lot, scanned the barcode and had a different experience interacting with their website. These two recent violations result from poorly designed software and/or glitches in their system. I have no problem paying a parking fee if it truly hasn't been paid, but I refuse to pay 140 dollars in violation fees for a glitchy/problematic software system. This has not only happened to me, but also many people I know. I am somewhat pleased in the possibility that they might have recently improved their system. However that does not make up for past issues.

In December 2021, we went into the Icon parking lot (Premier) and there was no way to know how to pay for the parking. We checked at the desk and no one gave any info, so we just left. A couple weeks later we got a bill in the mail for a $5-$8 parking fee plus a $70 fine! We talked to people at Premier, Metropolitan parking, and McKinley payments offering to just pay the parking fee and no one would do anything about it, so we finally paid the total invoice! We want that $70 fine paid back to us!Business Response

Violation #XXX-XXX-XXX and XXX-XXX-XXX
On each occasion I was unable to access the QR code to pay for the parking. I parked for 32 minutes the first time and 1 hour and 34 minutes the second time. I tried to reach Metropolis (formerly McKinley) and was unsuccessful on both occasions. I believe the parking fares are reasonable but I should not have to pay the outrageous ticket fines of $140.50. The QR code would not download and there was no other way to pay. I am willing to pay for the parking - and tried to pay for the parking - but not these exorbitant fines. Since I cannot reach them, I am filing this claim. I would appreciate your efforts in having them contact me and help me to resolve this.Business Response

We received a parking violation in the mail due to unpaid parking fare. The signage/text message that our employee received was very confusing/misleading. He received a text message that stated to "just drive out to pay." When he clicked on the link in the text message it did not have anything for him to do or confirm so he understood that to mean that our company had a credit card on file and it would be charged accordingly. I agree that we owe the parking charges and am even in agreement that we should pay an additional fee for mailing us the notice, however the $70.25 violation fine is not acceptable. We tried to reach out to customer support and they refused to adjust the amount due.Business Response
