i am a victim of identity theft. in early may while reviewing my checking statement i noticed several charges in the **** of $72 from American First Finance. i informed the my bank holding this checking account that i dont know this company. They credited three such charges while conducting an investigation. My banks written response as to their investigation was to make permanent the credited amts. The reason was that American First Finance was uncooperative with my bank's investigation. I have gone online researching this company's contact information to find out for myself what is going on. AFF requested id info such as account number and social security info. I did not know the account number and was not going to provide my ss no. They hung up on me.Three such attempts were made and again stalling and disconnections persued. I reiterate I did not know this company before this incident, I have found out that they provide credit/loans to individuals with low credit ratings for a price (high rates) I assume. I have an excellent credit rating I would not be seeking their high rate credit and I do not need loans of any kind. It seems someone has used my information to open this account. As i said in the beginning that i am a victim of Identity theft due to a federal employee massive data breach via OPM **** systems. They have submitted this info to a credit monitoring service to monitor my information for illegal purposes. AFF has reported this transaction to a credit report agency. I wish to be made whole again and have AFF dismiss this matter.Business Response

I financed a couch through a local furniture store and was given this company to use. Was told I had 1 year to pay it off before their crazy contract charges go into effect. I have paid almost $3000 to date and when I called today I was told my payoff amount was $4000!!!!This is blatant robbery. I have been hung up on by several phone representatives and escalations have been ignoredBusiness Response

Transaction Date 4/28/2023 Total paid $953.92 We agreed to authorized month payments date 28th of each for $477.68.American First Finance has taken more money that they should from our account. They took two payment and refused reverse the payments. I have supporting documents to show they received two transaction and then they came back and said they we have failed payments on their end. We have filed a dispute with our bank and they have researched the bank statement with the same information as we have. We have been calling for a month now and we still have no resolution. I did speak with a manager ********************** and he was escalating this to his accounting ***** and the Saturday 5/20 i received a text message saying my payment is past due 22 days and they need a payment now. I also stated we were paying the account off in 90 days, we were told there will be a $320.00 penalty for early pay off. We decided to just pay it to get rid of the debt, but now all of sudden missing payments are issue. We have called every week for almost a month an no one will help us resolve the matterBusiness Response

I paid $1700 for a furniture set through ********* first fiance. I was told I had 90 days to pay with zero interest after 90days it could go up to 24% interest. After the 90 days it's saying I owe over 36 hundred dollars which is over 100% interest and absurde. None of this was disclosed at time of purchase.Business Response

Account opened March *******. Countless calls to the company since. Their words were a security breach on my account. I was on a conference call with them and my bank for 1 hour, 24 minutes and 44 seconds when the company disconnected the call. My bank was explaining to them how they caused the security breach. After attempting to pay off balance twice this weekend and getting an error processing message, I am beyond fed up. This business is underhanded and deceitful.Customer Answer

I called American First Finance, Tuesday, May 30, 2023 at 1:08 p.m. and spoke to ******************** I wanted to let them know I would be adhering to the lease contract terms and won't be able to take advantage of the cash price early buy option and am proceeding with this complaint. I then asked ******** to update my address because I am moving and will be in new place tonight. At 1:09 p.m. ******** said she was unable to update my address because my account is expired. I asked what my account being expired means and she said my account is expired, that it isn't an open account? I asked why but she said she had no more information to provide me. I am even more confused now. My next monthly payment is scheduled for automatic payment tomorrow for the amount of $56.08. I don't have a clue what is going on, why is my account expired? If this is accurate information? If so, will they still apply the monthly payments via automatic payment that my account is set up to do? I get more confused with every call to American First Finance made. My autistic brain is overwhelmed and I am in limbo on knowing the next and best stepBusiness Response

I made a recent purchase from Mor furniture approximately over a year ago. I had purchased a bedroom set that was priced at $3200. When I made the purchase, I was given the option of purchasing it via store credit. I decided to take that option, even though I had the money to help raise my credit score. I would be able to make the purchase and would not be charged fees etc if paid in full within a three month period. At least that was the plan. After an unexpected change in my health (thanks COVID!), I was unable to pay off the balance. I was aware that American First Finance (the finance company) would start charging a monthly fee (+interest) until it was paid off. What I was not aware of is that they would start to withdraw monies from my account not once a month but twice a month in the amount of $185.76. But, I withstood the blow to my finances for over a year with the thought that it would soon be paid off and over with. Like I said, a little over a year later American First Finance has withdrawn over $4,457 from my account for a $3200 purchase. When I called the customer service line to get a better idea of how much I still owed and my interest on the loan, I was shocked! I was told that the loan was not even close to being paid in full. I still had a remaining balance of $5,201.28 for a total of $9658.62! Thats right! I was paying three times what the bedroom furniture was originally priced at! When I asked what my interest rate was, I was told there was no interest rate. That instead, I was being charged a daily fee of $9.45 on the loan! I would have NEVER, NOT NEVER made the purchase with American First Finance's credit if I had any indication that I would be robbed! Yes, robbed! I have paid $1257 extra not to mention the original purchase price of $3200 and they still expect me to pay $5201.28 more! This should be a criminal business practice in my opinion. Mor furniture costumers beware!Business Response

I wanted to buy a new stove at American Freight. It was a Kitchen Aid priced at $1,600. In their ad they said that you could apply for credit, which I did. I was sent an email stating that I could spend $2,400 and to bring my e-mail information. My daughter and I drove for 3 hours to the ************ store. When I got there I showed the information to the salesman. We picked out the stove. They said they had to send a contract to me by email and I had to open it on my phone. My email is not connected to my phone. The salesman changed the email address and sent it to my daughter's phone. At that point my daughter left me to get a drink. The salesman held my daughter's phone and said there were a few places that I had to sign. I did not have my glasses and told him that I could not see. ALL OF THE **** I BELIEVED THAT I HAD BEEN APPROVED FOR CREDIT AND THAT WAS NOT AN ISSUE. He scrolled very fast through the contract and I never saw any of it. My daughter got back and she signed at the end because I could not see. I live on a farm and am very busy. A few days later 2 things happened. The stove stopped working and I figured that I better read the contract. I was shocked to find out that it was a lease to own and not a credit. It had to be paid in full in 3 months or I would have to pay over $6,000. I told them that I have good enough credit to get a credit account. I wanted them to convert it. They would not. Then I got an email telling me to donate the stove to charity and give them the receipt. Charities will not take appliances that do not work. Then a very nasty, rude woman called and said that I could donate the stove, but I would still have to pay them 2 payments which would be over $500. My argument is that I was fraudulently induced to accept a contract that I could not see as it was presented on a cell phone and they took advantage of me because I am 77 years old. It is a predatory scheme and it is evil and illegal. I want them to take the stove back.Business Response

The transaction occurred on 10-30-2022 Some one used my credit information to acquire jewelry from a retailer in **************, *******. This appears to be an instore lease to own transaction. This transaction was financed by American First Finance. This was a fraudulent transaction. I have notified American First Finance via their consumer support phone service as well as in writing following their affidavit process. Despite the complete information being provided that makes clear that this purchase is a matter of identity theft, American First continues to claim that the lease to own transaction is valid.Business Response
