On July 25, 2022 a guy came up to our door selling their pest control services. I was told that they were giving a promotional deal of 39.99 for a ONE-TIME service where they would spread a material around the base of the house on the outside which would take care of pests. I asked if it was safe for pets and they said it was an organic material made out of the chrysanthemums (don't quote me on the flower that they mentioned it could be a different flower). I questioned how they could do that low of a price and make money and he just said they are just promoting their product. The salesperson failed to mention they would charge me a fee of $39.99 A MONTH!! Let alone only spread this stuff 3 more times (every 3 months) but still charge me every month! Who would agree to that! First of all why would I ask someone to do pest control on the outside of the house in January with a 1-2 feet of snow around it. Yes they produced a contract when I complained about the charges with my signature on it, but in no way did they show on their little tablet the same stuff they emailed to me. I signed a one page contract with tiny type that they did not explain (my fault for not reading every word on it - but then who does). The email also showed a chart of the payments I would have and when the services would be that was NOT included on the tablet I signed. This was a devious little scam they are trying to get away with and I want the two months (39.99 x2) they charged me after the initial charge I agreed to and if I was unable to stop my credit card in time I want $210 they charged me for canceling their services.Business Response

When the service was described it was a one time lawn spray for ************** This was in July 2022. The cost was to be $42.00, and the 2 young boys that came around to sell this I never came outside, opened my door, or screen (mainly because of my dog) but the young men in question or someone at that company signed my name to a 1 year contract. I have contacted them several times with no resolution to the problem. They continue to send me invoices, and even took a second payment so I had to have that card reported stolen to stop them from taking anything further from my account. I want the contract cancelled may I add that I knew nothing about until I called to find out why they took a second payment. I do not want this on my credit and I want the contract cancelled ASAP.Business Response

In August, 2022, I had a salesman, Maverick, tell me that Hawx Exterminating could take care of my problems with roaches, spiders, and ants. They came and sprayed, but the bugs got worse instead of better. I called them to come back out and respray, but the bugs were even worse. I sent Maverick a video of the roaches running up and down the wall. The technician was suppose to come back again. He called and wanted to come earlier in the day, but I informed him that I was not at home and that he needed to come later. Four minutes after out conversation, he ran the doorbell and my 16 year old autistic granddaughter let him in. I again notified Maverick and asked to cancel my service. However, today, October 18, I got a call to schedule my next appointment. I had told Maverick to cancel my service on September 10. He told me that he would take care of it. He did not. Today, October 18, the company deducted $180 from my account for canceling. I was not told about the cancelation policy until after the first treatment. However, I do not feel that I owe Hawx since they failed to do what they said that they would do. They have a great sales pitch, but fail to live up to the hype. I can send the videos if you want them. I feel that this company is a scam. Other consumers need to be warned. I want my money returned as they failed to live up to their part of the contract.Business Response

I bought a house in July of this year and a couple weeks into living here I had a young man show up at my door offering pest services. I was told that I was getting my services with a discount and my first monthly treatment would be *****. I was never told I would making a monthly payment for services that would only be happening quarterly. With it being close to winter I was worried about not needing the services through winter and was told that cancelling wasnt a problem. He said when you call to cancel just make sure you tell them you got the discount and it wont be a problem. For starters Im not happy about paying monthly for treatments that happen every 4 months. That was never stated to me. If you dont have a problem in the 3 months they dont come out youre just paying a monthly fee which adds up to 120 dollars for nothing. I feel like thats just taking advantage of people unfortunately. When I called yesterday to cancel my account for winter I was told it was going to be a 200 dollar cancellation fee. I said but what about the discount? The guy told me I would be able to cancel no problem and just to inform you of the discount. She said my contract didnt show a discount or anything about that and there was nothing she could do. So I asked when is my contract up so I can cancel this without a huge fee I was never informed of in the first place. She said august of 2023 which is 10 months away. Another 400 dollars worth of payments when theyll only come out 3 times in that time unless I request warranty services during the cold months. I dont have a pest problem during cold months. My main treatment was for fleas and spiders. So after agreeing to try this business out Im now stuck with them for a year paying 40 dollars a month for quarterly treatments I dont need or I need to pay 200 dollars to cancel my contract with them that I was never even told would last a year. I was told cancelling wouldnt be a problem.Business Response

A salesperson came to my door this summer offering a discount on a pest control bundle. He made it sound like we would only be billed for the months we recieved service (quarterly for general pest and monthly from April to Sept. for the outdoor package) and that I could cancel after I paid a total of $300 (the initial discount). However, they charge $89 every month regardless of whether you recieved service and you can't cancel before 12 months without a $600 fee.I had great service in June, but the next month the technician came out and said they needed to reschedule because of weather, but couldn't reschedule till early August. The Aug. appt. came and they canceled again, so we didn't end up getting a technician until mid Aug.-a full 2 month from our first service! No credit was offered and no one contacted us to schedule our service for Sept. The ONLY contact I received in September was an email and text that my bill was due as I had recently gotten a new debit card. I then got a text in Oct. that service was scheduled. I contacted the Hawx to cancel my services after reading similar terrible reviews of missed apts and misrepresented service. They blamed me for the missed services in July and Sept. I said the technician asked to cancel in July and my service in Sept should have occurred even before the bill was due. I also asked why if my account was on hold for Sept. did they schedule me for Oct. I reiterated that I just wanted to cancel, but they said I'd owe them $600. The best they could offer was to cancel my outdoor package and wave one of the $300 early cancelation fees and that they would have someone out today for my general pest. After I agreed, they told my my monthly price would go up since I didn't have both packages anymore! No credit was offered for the two months they missed either ($188 total). This company is unethical. They have a decent ****** rating, but reviews are disabled. Everywhere else, they have terrible reviews.Business Response

Signed up for a pest control service. It never really worked. I complained and was told the service would improve. It never did. I tried to cancel via the over via the website and was given a phone number. I was not able to get in touch with someone. It was not until I received a call from Hawx on 10/13/22 that I was able to talk to someone. I was transferred to the cancellation department and was told I could not cancel without receiving a cancellation fee of $400. I explained that it was explicitly explained to me when I signed up for the service that there was no term commitment contract and that I could cancel anytime. After that was made clear I signed up for the recurring service. I agreed to pay $46 per month for the outdoor package. Since then I have been getting billed $85 per month. I have only received outdoor services so I would like a refund of the difference and also a refund of the $413 cancellation fee I received today. I never agreed to this. When the agent I spoke with asked if he could do anything else for me today I sarcastically told him he could cancel my service since hasn't done anything for me, I wanted to cancel and instead he scheduled me for another appointment. And he told me unfortunately he would not be able to unless he charged me the early cancellation fee, to which I did not accept and warned him I would contact my bank if such a charge was made. Immediately after that phone call a $413 charge appeared on my card. I do want to cancel my service. But when I was on the phone all that was agreed upon was for a new service on Monday 10/17/22. I will never do business with this company again. So no mediation other than a refund is acceptable at this point. I have been lied to from the beginning. I was lied to about me being able to cancel my service any time. I was lied to about the monthly charge I would be getting. Their service has never satisfied me.Business Response

I am rejecting this response because: I never agreed to a term contract. If this was a term added, it was an addition that was done behind my back without my knowing. I was VERY explicit in not wanting any commitments and was told I would be able to cancel any time if I was unsatisfied with the service. This was a deceitful tactic on behalf of Hawx and not acceptable. People should be warned of ****'s lying tactics and bad faith efforts to get people to give their payment information. The inside of my home was NEVER treated. So I do not know where Hawx is getting the impression that it was serviced TWICE.

We used this service for a year beginning in July 2021 because we were experiencing an ant problem. This had never been an issue in the 2 years previous after we moved in. Even after the first service, we never saw any improved results, in fact, our ant problem actually become worse and we found that bait traps worked more effectively and only took a matter of 3 days to take care of the ants. For a full year and with quarterly services, there was no improvement. I emailed to cancel our service on September 13th, 2022 and was told I had to call in to cancel. Prior to our next service, scheduled for October 22nd, I recieved a charge to my account on October 13th, 2022 of 44.99/mo. I called that very day and asked to cancel. I was put on hold for 25 minutes and once I spoke with the rep, I was told I can cancel but they would not refund me for the charge even though I had not been serviced yet. I asked to speak to a supervisor and was refused, being told I had reached the highest tear and that I could not speak to a manager or the owner because they don't take calls. I feel it's ridiculous I'm being charged for a service I do not want when the service has not even taken place when previous services were not effective.Business Response

When I was first presented the service, the rep said it would be a ONE TIME fee for spraying outside the house and I could reschedule if I need additional service. I have been getting charged monthly $49.99 after being told this would be a one-time service I called customer support to close/get a refund and they said i would have to pay $200 to cancel (never told to me from rep). They said I had a couple days days from signing the contract to cancel but I NEVER RECEIVED MY CONTRACT until I called customer service 3 months later. I moved into a brand new house in a new neighborhood still being developed . I had a door knocker from hawk approach me while I was cleaning my garage in June of 2022 . He claimed this company was doing routine pest control quarterly and would be $***** charged on a quarterly basis . On 6/6/22 I was charge ***** and again charged ***** on 6/22/22 . Before I had ever even received one service . Finally I had someone come out and they told me i had a rat infestation and charged me for rat boxes for months . No one ever came back to check the boxes and when I finally called enough times to have someone come back out they checked the boxes and nothing was trapped and the second man said it was never rat p*** they saw it was tree frog p*** . Since then I have only had one tech come to my house and they are claiming two people have come out by showing me the same pictures from the same man that told me I never had a rat problem . Apart of this constant dishonesty to get more money . I am sure what they are using to "treat" for bugs actually attracts more bugs . After they have come out both times The bugs swarm my house for about 2 months and when i call to tell them this no one ever comes out again. When I tried to cancel this service due to all these issues they want to charge me $200 "reimbursement fee to them " . Nothing they have done seems right or ethical .
