1 starI have a statement credit on my CapitalOne card and have been trying to get a refund. When I have had this happen with other banks, the process is very simple and they immediately issue a refund by mailing a check to my address. I have tried to call for over two months with CapitalOne and still have not been able to make any progress. They say they have to verify my identity to protect my account by sending me a text. At first my cell phone number was out of date, so I updated it and tried again a month later. They say that the text they send me won't go through. So then they say they have to try another process, where I have to upload my photo identification. I'm not even comfortable with the idea of them having that, but I have no other choice it seems to get my OWN money back into my hands. I have tried this process of uploading my ID numerous times, and their system says that my ID can't be processed. My ID is brand new, not in "rough shape" or expired, as their system says. I have tried this five times, and they still can't give me my money back. The supervisor I spoke to on the phone can't even understand why this won't work. Think about it - why do I need my account "protected" in this case? Mail the check to my address on file - if I am for some reason not me - the check is going to the customer's house! It's my account, me on the phone, they have my number on file and can tell it's me - but CapitalOne does not want to give their customers their OWN money. Corporate America at it's absolute worst.Review fromMonique D

1 starI purchased a car on 05/14/22. I've contacted this bank so many times pleading for help every time I found out new information about how I was defrauded by the dealership. The bank approved this loan with out fact checking the contract. I was also told that this car was new and I was the first owner but that was a lie, but new was on the contract. The dealership made my income on the credit report extremely higher then what it was. I was pre-qualified with the bank before purchase of the car and I've been a customer for many years so they already knew my income. They put a warranty on my contract that I did not ask for nor needed. Also I was with out legal transportation for over a week cause my temporary plates had expired. When I finally get them they are not the handicap plates I was told I was getting. So I had to go to the ** MVC to get the correct ones. I was told the contract was going to be canceled out and I'll get all my money back and the dealer will own the car again. It sounded too good to be true so I ask for it in writing but I was told no from dealership. Then last month I was told by the bank that the dealer is posting a payment of $23,847.45 which will pay off the account and was asked do I still want to make my payment I said yes. Then I asked the dealer to send me proof that they are making a payment. They sent me a questionable invoice with capital one name spelled capital once. Then my payment of $440.08 posted on my due date 09/13/2022. The next day 09/14/2022 2 payments posted totaling $23,847.45 and doesn't say where they came from. My payment was reversed and $38.84 was taken from it as the last payment. A week later I received a congratulation letter and lien release letter which said I was the owner. On 10/07/22 I received a letter from the bank saying the dealership purchased a retail installment contract from them. I believe this information was withheld on purpose. . I'm very horrified, and distressed by Capital One's conduct.Review fromVontarious H

1 starMy experience with Capital One has been horrible. I had two cards each at a 20k limit. Without notifying me Capital One decided to lower them to 5k. This wiped out 30k from my credit utilization, which had a severe negative impact on my credit score. When I asked for my credit limit to be increased to where it was, Captial One used my credit score, which they were responsible for dropping against me as a reason they could not approve my request. It would be funny if it wasn't so dishonest and stupid.Review fromdonald l

1 starI had a secured card with capital one, had it for years. never had an issue with it. Then I get ill for about a month, had a financial set back, which affected my secured credit card and then I get back on my feet, pay off my card/ then after I pay my card in full, I get informed my card had been canceled. No chance was given, nothing. Just canceled. Is that normal practice for your company? Just throw away clients? I know I am a small insignificant account; I am a blue-collar working man, not a millionaire or anything, but I am still a client. Probably not for long though. I am looking into other banks due to being treated like I was nothing by your company. I guess years and loyalty mean nothing?Again, I am very disappointed with your service and how it treats its clientele.Thank You and Good Day Liars. Pure unadulterated lying company. Full of fraudulent lies. Run from this repugnant company as fast as you can.Review fromJessica B.

1 starI have been paying on my car it will be almost 3 years in February 2023 that I have been making payments to capital one auto loan finance for my $15,000 loan and I have literally only paid not even $4000 into my loan because of the extremely high interest rates. I lost my job this past March and made them aware of it and was making payments still with the money from my side jobs to keep my car payments down I had scheduled payments all three times that my credit was sent to all three bureaus by capital one and only that I know and find this out upon finally getting a really good paying job and trying to refinance my car through my bank where I get my payroll through and they pulled my credit only to tell me that Capital One had put on there every time that I was late even when I had scheduled payments in their system so now nobody will refinance my car and Im stuck paying almost $11,000 left on this ridiculously high interest rate loan and will be unable to move me and my children from the extremely dangerous neighborhood while we are living !!! Not only has this happened but the most recent horrible customer service that I have experienced was when I tried to call eight days in a row to make a car payment because it was due and was unable to get anyone on the phone and every time that I was able to get someone on the phone they literally proceeded to tell me that their database had been hacked and that they were making updates to their servers and website And they were unable to look up anyones account information and sorry for the inconvenience and literally hang up on you so because of that I had yet another late fee more interest and another file filed by them on my credit when I was trying to make an on-time payment !!!! Capital One literally does anything and everything in their power to s**** over their customers and ruin their credit so they are forced to stay with their scamming company!!Worst customer service EVER!!! HORRIBLE!!Review fromKelly W

1 starThe customer service experience that I endured today, was completely and utterly horrible. I have had my Capital One credit card since April, and my due date is on the 20th, however for some reason I thought the due date was the 25th of this month (a simple mistake, right). I called customer service asking for a $25 late fee to be waived as a one time courtesy, (12hrs late) w/payment and the rep I was speaking with said I wasn't eligible for one. I then requested to speak with a supervisor, and ******* ( unable to give her last name) and ID #******, out of *********, ** said that unfortunately there were several factors in determining if I was eligible, and that I wasn't able to get the fee waived. I then proceeded with asking why? With no clear explanation given by *******, other than "I do not have an answer to your question." She said it's clearly stipulated that if a payment is late the fee is automatically assessed. And, I asked well who is authorized to waive a late fee as one time courtesy, and she said no one. HOW IN THE ****** is an employee w/Capital One, and a supervisor not authorized to make that decision? I then asked how I was able to cancel, and she immediately said " I would be happy to take care of that for you." I then said "you can't waive my fee as one time courtesy to keep me as a customer, but you are more than willing to cancel my account?" How absurd is this situation? I am so displeased with my customer service experience, that I will never refer anyone to start service with Capital One! A complete shame!Review fromChristy M

1 starI would give 5 negative stars if I could. Capital one put a fraud alert on my credit card when I tried to change my address. I am a military spouse and used the card through out ******** and Europe but when I went to change it to a stateside address is when capital one closed my account. This was back in June while my kids and I traveled back to the states for my father in laws funeral. Nobody told me this and I went to use it at the airport and called capital one after I got declined for $5 and was informed that my account was blocked for fraudulent activity. Now in October I am still fighting to get my credit of over $150 given back to me. This is my money not theres and it is ridiculous what is happening. I called today and ** being told a specialist is still working on my account.Review fromKris S

1 starI would give one star, but that is not an option. On April 19, 2022, Capital One denied receiving a payment and froze my card. Please understand I have excellent credit with all credit agencies; my bills are paid in full and on time. This was a rare occasion where I was a few days late; however, a payment had been posted and Capital One was denying receipt. Therefore, they refused to reinstate my card, despite my credit history. I assured them I would never be late or have a balance due again. Since then, Capital One has violated our contractual agreement and messed with my statement each month - issuing unrequested refund checks for merchant credits I was using to pay balances. Following a lengthy phone call on 10/21/2022, with supervisor ****** (CQW791), there was discussion regarding a "Charge Adjustment." ****** informed me that the merchant had made the adjustment from the initial charge, only to admit later that it was Capital One. I requested to speak with someone above her and she said she was a supervisor; if I wished to speak with someone else, I would need to hang up and call back. I have had nothing but trouble with this company ever since they denied receiving my payment and I have made sure my account was paid since. Credit Card companies need people who can't or don't pay thier bills, not people who do!Review fromKaren W

1 starInitially I thought Capital One was a good company and easy to deal with. The customer service representatives seemed friendly and knowledgeable. However, I noticed some activity on my credit report which was concerning to me, so attended to contact them and ask them what was going on.On two separate occasions, Capital One did a credit check on me. Both occasions occurred Oct 2022 within 5 days of each other, and I did not authorize or have knowledge any such activity. Fortunately I have credit monitoring, so I caught it quickly and got on the phone. When I initially called the phone connection was incredibly bad and the representative was hard to hear. But she managed to tell me that I had to call the credit monitoring agency and talk to them about it. So I did. And just as I suspected they told me I have to call the company who made the inquiry. So I called Capital one back, explained that I already spoke to a rep at their company and with credit monitoring company. This guy transferred me back to the credit monitoring company. I was furious, hung up the phone, and called Capital one back. The third call I demanded to speak with a manger and not to be transferred to the credit monitoring company. Eventually I got a manager who told me that my account went to collections (which was wrong) and then he told me they report to the credit bureau (which I knew) and I re-explained (now for the 7th time) that Capital One was pulling my credit report without my consent, and I wanted an answer as to why. I got nothing. No answer just a blanket statement if youre not satisfied with the response you received we can send you an email I was so furious I told them to close my account and I would never do business with them again.
