After purchasing a lawn mower with a Briggs & Stratton engine the engine began to falter and would no longer run properly, then failed to operate normally at all. The company did not respond to my attempts to contact them. When I did finally contact a representative I was first given instructions on how to fix the problem which did not work. More attempts to contact them, and the next time the representative advised me to take it to an authorized service provider. When I did they said they would not work on it, and said that the fuel I was using probably damaged the carburetor (note: I used the fuel recommended by the manufacturer). I purchased and installed a new carburetor and used the "correct" fuel, but it did not correct the problem.Business Response

I purchased a DR ***** and brush mower from DR in April of 2023. The engine was a Briggs and stratton. It blew up after working for 1 month. I provided proof that I had filled the machine with oil, but they said I am at fault for not doing so. The proof was in a video from my home security camera system, and shows me with the oil can and pouring it into the machine on June 30th at noon. I cut the grass for a few minutes then came inside to get a drink. When I returned to mow a second time, I started the mower and walked it toward the front area. As I neared the front gate the motor blew up. ******* it is Briggs warranty, they can't do anything. Briggs won't honor their warranty. I had to buy a new motor from DR. I would like to get Briggs to honor the warranty and give me a new motor or reimburse me for the money I spent buying the motor from Dr.Business Response

Purchased a zero turn mowers with a Briggs & Stratton engine in May of this year. It came with a 2 year manufacturer warranty. Less than 3 months later the mower stopped working. Had to pay a ***** fee to have it picked up and taken to the warranty repair shop which was their choice, not mine. Since then, 3 weeks have passed, the mower is repaired and determined to be a manufacturer problem but they do not answer their phone and have not approved the repair which is going on 2 weeks now. I paid ******* for this mower and I don't know where else to turn. I've had to pay someone to cut my grass last week and it appears that I will have to do this again in the coming days.I've called the warranty phone line that I was given and no one answers, you can only leave a message but no one calls back. The repair shop will not release my mower because the work has not been approved by Briggs and stratton online portal. The repair shop also has my receipt from the purchase so I don't have anything to upload.Business Response

On April 13, 2022 I purchased a new Toro Model #***** 22" lawn mower from ********** in *******, *****. The Briggs & Stratton engine model #***J02-0167-F1 was warranted for two years from the date of purchase. On July 15, 2023 I was mowing normally and stopped the engine by releasing the safety bar. I attempted to start the engine a few minutes later and could feel that there was no engine compression when I pulled the start rope. The mower would not start. Since the warranty was still in effect, on July 18 I took the mower to the nearest authorized Briggs & Stratton warranty repair location, which is ******* ************** They contacted me and left a message on July 28 that the there would be no warranty coverage for this engine and that I should come pick up my mower. I went to the ******* ************* on July 31 to retrieve my mower and was immediately charged $54.13 for 1/2 hour of labor. I spoke with the unidentified mechanic who returned the mower, who told me that dirt had been ingested into the engine and had caused damage resulting in there being no engine compression. He explained that a vacuum device had been hooked up to the motor and that was how it was determined that there was no compression even though it was obvious that there was no engine compression when I took the mower in to the shop. He also told me that the engine had not been disassembled and that he did not know the nature of the internal damage. I was simply told that dirt ingestion had somehow caused loss of compression. I was also told by the mechanic that Briggs & Stratton had not approved disassembly of the engine, so no further investigation of the compression loss was done. Later, with assistance from a mechanic, I removed the cylinder head and found that the exhaust valve seat had come loose and was preventing the valve from closing. This should be a warranty issue.Business Response

I purchased a 21 inch ****** push mower with a Briggs and Stratton motor on June 3, 2023. I had to exchange the mower 7 days later beause it wouldnt start. On July 5th, the replacement mower would not start. The store will not exchange because it is out of the 30 day original purhase date and is now a warranty problem. I have attempted to contact Briggs and Stratton only to be forced to an automated line which says to contact a dealer. ****** says its not their problem. The store I purchased it at says to contact warranty ***** All warranty dealers in my area are backed up for any service over a month. I have a $400 lawn mower that cant be used and grass that is out of control and I cant get any help in a timely manner. I have also attempted to reach Briggs and Stratton via email only to be told the same thing. Please help me get this resolved.Business Response

Bought a snapper sxdwm82 x 21 mower on 5/24/2023. One battery completely failed 2 weeks ago. The power shuts down randomly during use. Will not restart. If the battery is removed, and replaced, it will usually restart.I tried contacting the helpline, and it said to contact a dealer service center. The closest is about 130 miles away, I called them and they said they do not service electric snappers even though the web site said the do. There are no other centers listed within a 150 miles of st *******/st *****. The mower has a 5 year warranty and the battery has a 2 year. I have spent all morning trying to contact them to no avail. A warranty is of no value if you cannot exercise it after a failure after 2 months. Or need to travel over 100miles. The mower was purchased for a total of $508.55 and I registered the mower. I provided the receipt and registration as supporting documents. The mower is not usable with one battery and having to constantly try to reset the mower. I am using a different mower at this time. There are two issues- the battery and the mower.I would accept a zero cost exchange, a refund, or a local repair (25 miles?) in a timely manner less than a month.Business Response

Bought a new Toro mower with a Briggs and Stratton engine last year. With only about 15 hours on the engine the head gasket blew. An authorized service center made the repair under warranty. A short time later the engine failed. The service center said it would need a new engine. Please note, just so the reader is clear; the engine failed on a NEW MOWER. After months {now were in 2023} Briggs and Stratton approved a new engine. As of this writing, here I sit with NO MOWER since the approved engine replacement has yet to arrive!!! The grass still grows however so I was using an old clunker mower which, as you may have guessed, died leaving me no choice but to go out and buy a new mower!!! Imagine how ****** I am to be put in the position to have to buy another, new mower, which, I wouldn't need to do if Briggs and Stratton would put the customer first and send out the new engine for the "new" mower sitting in the service center. The service center {Northeast Equipment} has NOT been able to make any headway on getting this engine {engine # ***J05-0173-F1.} Now it's my turn to take up the fight. This has turned into a very frustrating process since I have yet to get a human being on the phone so I can fight this. This company *****, but I'm not giving up.Business Response

I bought a **** bilt mower from MTD in April of 2022. I used the mower for one mowing season. It worked a couple weeks in 2023 then just stopped working. I followed all the steps of their set up for failure warranty. I waited for two months to get an appt with an authorized dealer near me. Then I had to wait two weeks just to be told that my issue was the engine and Briggs and stratton wouldn't cover it. So their authorized dealer took apart my engine and returned it to me that way as it costs additional money to put back together. As well as I had to pay $100 fee just for them to look at it and an hour of labor. That I didnt get back by the way. Just to be told it was "my fault" and it would cost me $1200 to fix a mower I paid $1600 for a year ago. The company and authorized dealer are obviously working together to s**** the customer and go to any lengths to blame it on the customer. Ive seen many reviews with the same problem. I want my money back I wasted on this awful mower. Do yourself a favor and never get a mower or any equipment with their engine.Business Response

I purchased a Briggs & Stratton Emergency generator Fortress Model on 10/22/21. The generator broke down on 12/1/22 when the starter motor failed. On 4/28/23 the unit malfunctioned again when it would not perform its weekly exercise cycle. A technician from ***********, *****, **** repaired the unit and I was sent a bill for $170.60. The unit is supposed to be under warranty, yet I'm being billed by *********** for the service call and repair. Briggs & Stratton needs to honor their warranty and cover the cost of these repairs to my unit.Customer Answer

[Please type your response here.] Well, obviously Briggs & Stratton does not stand behind their products. The technician noted that my generator did not start at the programed time andsimply did not care, or was incompetent and did not recognize that the unit was under a warranty with Briggs & Stratton. The unit malfunctioned, plain and simple, and Briggs & Stratton does not stand behind their products. I will never do business with them again. To anyone and everyone who reads this complaint all I can say is stay away from this company, their products are garbage, and their warranties are bogus.
